Chapter 9 - Ms Barbera

1754 Words
It has been days that we have been looking into the power of light. Connor made good on his promise and helped me a lot. We went to meet with Elders from his pack. They could talk about hybrids a lot, but only one had something related to the power of light. Markus, an older gentleman with long gray hair with some tattoos on his face, was strangely very welcoming. He told me that the power of light is that of the blue moon. On the night of a blue moon, wolves, as we know, have more enhanced abilities. It's when we are at our strongest. Our strength, speed and agility increase. It is said that the wolf with the power of light is not bound by the blue moon for those enhancements, as it is always inside them. I do not feel stronger or much faster, but it’s at least something. Connor usually resides in the pack house, but while rebuilding the packhouse we are temporarily staying in a house on the side of the town. We have staff come and go but it has been only me and him living here, and the privacy has been nice. We got to spend much more time together, getting to know all the ins and outs of one another. Literally Other than the Elder visits, we went to the pack library and got a ton of books all about hybrids. What I would give to just have a book that says the power of light. Unfortunately, I need to go through all these books hoping in one of them there is a mention of the power of light. I am in his office reading yet another book on hybrids like I do every day as he pours himself into his work. “They are all the same” I say in frustration, and I slam closed yet another book on Hybrids. He looks up from his work, with his brows furrowed. Waiting for me to elaborate. “This stuff about Hybrids. There’s a lot of stuff on werewolf and Vampire Hybrids, some on werewolf and witch Hybrids, but honestly, they all say the same thing. A body that possesses 2 elements, one element has to be dominant over the other. Which of mine is the stronger one? I do not know, and I do not know how to find out. I do not even know how to even access this power of light, it just happens. SO BASICALLY! I know nothing” I drop the book on the table next to me, making a loud banging sound. He looks amused and chuckles. “It’s not funny, I feel stuck. I feel like I will never get these answers.” I say, almost defeated now. He moved his seat back and indicated to me to come over. I walked to him and he pulled me on to his lap and nuzzled his nose into my neck. He starts placing a soft kiss on my neck, sending tingles down my body. “Perhaps you need to take a break, take your mind off it and revisit it with a fresh set of eyes. You are not going to get all the answers you are looking for in one day, or even one book for that matter.” He says inbetween the kisses and I know he is right; I just can’t shake my frustration. He picked me up and placed me on his desk. I open my legs and pull him in between them. His hands went around my behind and I pulled his head down to kiss me. It all felt so intimate, slow, almost like we were savoring every touch. A sudden loud commotion broke out outside. He shot up and put me back on my feet. “Stay here” he ordered. He was making his way to the door when it swung open. In came an older lady, grayish blond hair, dressed in colorful silks. “Mother” He addressed her but she walked past him lifting her finger as she walked. “I do not want to hear it” She is strutting her stuff all the way to me, she looks serious and im not sure if this is going to be a good or bad encounter. When she reaches me, I expect a greeting but instead, I get pulled into a warm embrace. I looked up from behind her back at Connor while still in her arms. I was amused by the situation but he was clearly not. She finally pulls my body back but still not letting go of my shoulders. “You...” She said, then paused. “You are beautiful.” Her statement made me blush and I cannot help but smile at her compliment. I wanted to thank her but Connor interrupted before I could get a word in. “Mother”, Connor tried again. “I said I did not want to hear it” She cut him off again. “You truly are light itself”, she turns me around, looking me up and down, and my face turns to one of confusion at her choice of words. I let her move me, she was clearly on a mission and it felt good getting this approval from his mother, regardless of his clear irritation with it all. When she had me turn a full 360 degrees and face her again, she cups my face. “I am so happy he decided to mark you. Goddess knows he said he never would”. What does she mean? Did he never want to be with his mate? He never gave me that impression, he always fought for me. “Guess he is not as stupid as he acts” she says, then winks. “Mother!” This time he used a tone of authority. Her happy expression and giddy smile were replaced with one of irritation. She rolls her eyes as she turns to face him. “Mother, I told you not to come here. Mother, I told you now is not the time.” She says in a mocking tone. “No, No,No.” Is all you every say and I am tired of you keeping this goddess locked up here. She belongs to this pack as much as she does to you” He is grinding his teeth. Clearly not impressed by how she is acting. “She is mine!” He shouts and I take a step back. “Clearly, you marked her” his mother retorted to his outburst. I was shocked by his response; he told his mother not to come here. He has been keeping me locked in here. Surly, it’s just a metaphor, but now I'm thinking about it. He has marked me, but I have not been introduced to his pack yet. There has been no Luna ceremony. I have been enjoying his time and attention so much I never even thought of all the formalities. “You should come over for dinner” I interrupted their little show down. She turned to me with a big smile on her face. “That sounds like a lovely idea, a big family dinner. I’ll let Rebecca know” she said while bringing her hands together. “No” he once again interjects. “We would love to have Rebecca as well.” My last interaction with Rebecca was not a good one but I should probably apologize in some way. It is Connor’s sister, after all. His mother had a big smile on her face, like she had just won and it made me want to giggle at her. “See you tonight” she said while reaching up and kissing him on his cheek. She opened the office door and a big man was waiting outside it. “ Alex” she addresses him, looking him up and down with contempt, and walks away. The man, I assume is Alex, walks in, looking scared at Connor. He was a big man with broad shoulders, his hair was over his eyebrows with the ends flicked up and stubble on his square-shaped jaw. It was quite funny to see this big bear of a man look so scared of the same man that a tiny old woman just reprimanded. “Alpha, I tried. You know how hard it is to stop Ms. Barbera.” Alex tried to explain to Connor. Connor is pinching the bridge of his nose. “Alex, Luna is cooking dinner and you are invited.” is all Connor had to say. What did he say im cooking dinner? I have had staff cook in the packhouse my entire life, and we have had staff cooking here the entire time I have been here. What does he mean I will be cooking? Alex looked at his Alpha in silence, not sure if his look said everything or if they were mind linking. “Rebecca will be there” was his answer and I felt like I missed something. Alex’s face lit up at those words and he immediately agreed. Conner dismissed him and Alex left, leaving me and my mate alone again. I knew I was in trouble inviting his family over without his approval, so I headed for the door the moment Alex left me alone with Connor. “I give the woman in my life”. He pauses, then corrects himself. “I give my family and my mate more power than I should” he says, and that stops me in my tracks. “I try to have normal relationships with family and not that of an Alpha to a pack, but I do not like being trampled like that.” It felt like a warning, I stilled and debated whether or not to say something. “Am I to be part of your family or a prisoner?” I asked, having a whole lot to add from what his mother just said, but he was quiet. No answer, no remark, no emotion. I let out a huff of air and walked out the room frustrated with this man, and realizing I now had to deal with this dinner all on my own takes president. I mean you read a recipe and follow the instructions. How hard can it be? Blue Moon Luna by Aine, all rights reserved. Please let me know if you find my work on any other apps.
