Chapter 8 - Hybrid

1452 Words
“Rebecca” Connor shouts. “What does she mean I blew up the packhouse?” I asked him. “I take her being awake as you resuming your Alpha duties immediately.” She ignores that I just asked him a question and informs Connor. “Sticking me with Alex…” She stops and takes a breath as if to calm herself “ You owe me, and I will claim it” She walks towards the exit but stops when she reaches the door, then looks back at us with a wicked grin. “And I’m telling mother you marked her” she says, then leaves the room. “Connor, I did not blow up your packhouse”. I am trying to clarify. I am thinking back to the last thing I remember and at no point did I blow anything up. Hell where would I have had the time if he had been with me for every waken moment since I have gotten here. “Our pack house” he corrects with a smile, like it’s a joke. How is he in such a good mood after such an exchange? “Connor, this is not funny, accusations like that could get me killed” I tried to explain the severity to him. “By whom?” He chuckles. His playful demeanor baffles me. “By the Alpha of the pack?” He jokes and looks at me very amused. “Even if you are the Alpha, your pack could…” He stops me. “Adeline, my pack know what you are. We had a heated argument. It happened, its OK.” I am as still as a statue at his words. I almost feel slow to process what he just said. Its ok? It happened? What is he talking about? Does he believe I did it? Did I? Did Ash? I pause all my thought Thinking of his words again. What I am, my eyebrows furrow with confusion “What I am?” I asked, I felt offended, thinking to myself it was going to be some type of sexist thing. “A hybrid” he says, looking at me very confused, and I cannot help but burst out laughing. “I am not a Hybrid; I have zero vampire in me.” I continued to chuckle, but saw his serious face, quieting me down. “Both my parents are werewolves, Connor”. I now try to reassure him, but I see no change in his expression. “Adeline, a Hybrid does not have to be a mixture of a vampire and a werewolf. Those are just the two most commonly mixed species in our world. It does not have to be a mixture of species at all, honestly. A Hybrid is a mixture of 2 elements. You are a werewolf, yes, but you were born with the power of light. I assumed with the necklace you were wearing, you knew.” I grasped the necklace around my neck. “Gradian of the light” I said in a soft whisper, remembering what Elliot’s Grandmother told me the first time I shifted into my white wolf. “So, you do know?” He asks, interrupting my thoughts. “I just remembered during my first shift an Elder told me white wolves are known as the Gradian of the light, and are said to be blessed by the goddess herself.” He stills with a serious expression, not one emotion readable on his face. I tried to think of what Ms Morris, Elliott's Grandmother, had said to me when she first saw my wolf. I tried to think of what Elliot said to me when he gave me the necklace, but nothing that makes any sense to explain I would have the power of light. “How do you know I have the power of light?” I asked. He looks at me, but does not answer me. His serious expression was still present. It looks like he is deep in thought and I wonder if he is talking to his wolf or else why is he not answering me. “The explosion… That’s how I know.” He finally answers. “The light…” I come to realize, and everything starts flooding my head again. I blew up a packhouse! I say to myself. “How do I have the power of light?” “Have you met other people with the same power?” “How do I control it?” I ask the questions as they run through my mind. “Listen, I do not have specifics on the power of light.” He halts for a second before continuing. "My pack and myself have experience in hybrids, not with the power of light specific.” I try to wrap my mind around all the unknown surrounding me. Something I have never been very good at. I am a very calculated person. I need structure, I need plans. Not having much to go on makes me very uncomfortable. "You have never felt the energy or had any previous explosions” he states more than asks, but I shook my head to answer anyway. “Your wolf never said anything?” He states again like he is puzzling it together. With this statement, I stopped before answering and decided to ask Ash. “Ash?” I call. She said nothing but I could feel her paying attention. “Did you know that we had the power of light?” I asked her. “I did not know, no." She goes still for a moment then adds. “I started feeling different around your birthday, but I just assumed it was with me and you fighting and disagreeing so much lately.” I told Connor what Ash had just told me, and he nodded, then pulls me into his arms. We stay like this for a minute or two and I welcome the calmness he gives me. I think of my childhood, my parents, anything that could give an indication that I was born with the power of light, but I can’t think of anything. “Do you think my parents knew?” I asked him not really having an answer myself but feeling this fearful emotion deep inside me. I am not sure if I feared them knowing and they chose to keep it from me or feared them not knowing and them not having answers for me, but I knew all of this did scare me. If I can blow up buildings because of an argument, I need to learn how to control this, and I do not know where to start if not my parents. “If they gave you that necklace, I think they might have known.” He says in a remorseful tone, like he felt sorry for me. “They are not the ones who gave it to me” I said while lifting my head to look at him, suddenly having a glimmer of hope. “I need to talk to Ms Morris, the Elder who gifted it to me.” I'm talking fast, feeling the urgency to get these answers now that I have somewhere to start. “Do you think you could take me to my pack so I can talk to her? She might have the answers.” His body tensed and his grip on me got tighter. “That is not your pack anymore” he said through his teeth. “Connor, I didn’t mean…” I really did not know what to say. The Pine Creek Pack has always been my pack. I could say it's out of habit, and it is in some way, but the truth remains in my heart. They are still my pack. “Adeline, I cannot allow you to go to any other pack.” I looked at him in shock. “Our pack has no allies; you are not safe on any other pack grounds. I will give you full access to our pack library. I will introduce you to our elders. I will do anything in my power to get you the answers you need, as long as it does not include you leaving here.” I am grateful he is willing to help me and all the resources he is making available to me, but I have this little wondering question in the back of my head. Am I a prisoner here? “I will help you get all the answers you need”, He reassures me. Blue Moon Luna by Aine, all rights reserved. Please let me know if you find my work on any other apps.
