Aurelia I stared at my reflection in the full-length mirror of my bedroom as I studied the intricate details of my dress. This was one of my most elaborate, special but also daring outfits, handmade by the talented ladies in the palace modiste. The small flakes of gold had been woven to fit my figure perfectly and it was such a vibrant, shocking colour that when the daylight caught it, it could blind you. One of my maiden’s delicately placed the heavy crown on my head, which had a flowy, shimmering mesh veil attached to it that draped over my shoulders and down to the floor. I preferred these veils as they were almost transparent, which gave me the feeling of being seen more than the others. My blonde hair fell down my back in waves, hidden mostly by the veil but still slightly visible. N
