I could no longer hold the tears back as I reached the top of the spiral stairs to my floor. I was so embarrassed at what had happened, but also, I felt guilty. Guilty for that mother’s pain. For what she had lost. She was right, no matter what way you looked at it, I had condemned her child to death.
“Goddess, wait,” Kiaus ordered behind me for the third time as I reached for my door handle.
