April's Point Of View
Lucas and I reached Bethany's place about an hour after we left the packhouse. We shifted back to our human form and got dressed in clothes I had carried in a rucksack. We walked a little closer to the 'shack' that Bethany stayed in and waited to see who, or what would greet us.
I was surprised to see the 5 year old Bethany coming down the steps. Usually, around this part of the territory, she disguised herself as an old man. I wasn't sure whether this meant something good, or something bad. It may well not have meant anything at all.
"You're not supposed to be here" Bethany yelled at me, she stomped her foot on the bottom step as if to prove she was irritated.
"Bethany, you really hurt Lucas earlier with the mind link. Neither of us is sure what exactly it is we've done to upset you, but I wasn't going to let him come alone." I'd never really learnt the correct way to speak to Bethany as a child. It was difficult to speak to her in an adult tone when she had her hair up in really cute bunches.
"Well, you can't come inside." She said pointing at me.
"We either both come in or no one comes in. I'm sorry Bethany but you could have killed Lucas this morning and you won't even tell us what's got you so fired up."
The little girl just stared at me, her expression was murderous.
"Look Bethany," Lucas cut in sensing I was losing my patients with the bratty little child "today we had someone new come onto our territory. She doesn't know what we are and appears to have very little concept of the supernatural. She thinks we are human the same as she is."
Bethany scoffed "She's not human"
"Well, she thinks she is" Lucas replied. "So if you think that's what I'm keeping from you, then you now know as much as I do."
The little girl stomped up the stairs and back onto the porch. When she turned back round to face us she was wearing the most magnificent smile I'd ever seen. My daughter, Lilly, was the most beautiful girl on the face of the earth. Bethany was a very close second.
We took the smile as a sign of encouragement and followed her into the old house. I marveled again at how secure the whole place was despite looking over a million years old. Magic truly was an amazing thing to behold.
We bowed our heads as a sign of respect and awaited the transformation. We closed our eyes when the white light that she projected became too strong and when it had faded and we opened them, once again we were met with our exquisite Winter Witch.
She was easily 7 foot tall, her skin was as pale as the moon and her blonde hair came all the way down to her ankles. She wore no shoes and she floated around six inches off of the floor. She had a slight frown on her face, but that did nothing to mar her beauty. She had porcelain skin and her hypnotic eyes sparkled like rare blue gems. She dropped down onto the balls of her feet and tiptoed over to where Lucas and I stood. She placed a hand on each of our foreheads so that she could talk to us without causing any pain.
"Alpha Lucas, you didn't follow my instructions to come here alone?" She was frowning at Lucas, he would never usually go against her. He respected her way too much
"My apologies your majesty, April was concerned for me and would not let me over here by myself"
Bethany turned to me. "Luna, I'm sorry for harming your mate earlier, I felt how much it hurt you when you saw him injured, I realise I may have over-reacted but I do have my reasons."
"I'm sure you do Bethany, but you've known us long enough to know we would not keep anything from you?"
Bethany bowed her head for a second. That was as close to an apology as we were going to get!
"The girl that arrived today is not a human, she is a Witch, and she is a direct descendant of mine"
Oh. My. Goddess!!
"You must bring her to me at once, we have a lot of ground to cover" Bethany sounded excited and apprehensive in equal measure.
"Your majesty, she has no idea that she is a Witch and no idea about any other supernatural beings, respectfully I would ask for some time to introduce her to our way of living?" Lucas linked her, sounding a little nervous.
"Also Bethany," I jumped in quickly before she said no to Lucas's request "She is suffering from terrible nightmares, which means she hasn't slept much for the last half a decade. She has very little energy and until she gets some rest, I'm not sure how much she'll be able to take on"
Bethany gave me a glorious smile, which I certainly wasn't expecting.
"You can feel the bond with her already, she is more powerful than I imagined"
Lucas and I looked at each other. Nope, neither of us had a clue what that meant!
"She is family, she is your family, and you will protect her as I will. She is 18 in just over a week. When she comes of age it will be impossible to control her powers without my support. You must bring her to me before then. If not I will come for her."
"And the nightmares?" Lucas asked gently.
"That has already been taken care of. Now please go and do whatever you need to do to get her up to speed. She is a weapon against evil and we will need her soon."
I did not like the sound of that one bit.
"Bethany, why do we need a weapon?"
"To protect our children of prophecy."
