Chapter 14 - A New Buddy

1188 Words
Alex's Point Of View Well, what an interesting 20 minutes that was, I thought to myself!  Charlie was the most amazing looking guy I have ever seen.  He was blonde, with dark blue sapphire eyes, and had the face of an angel.  Even better than that, he actually managed to stop me from thinking about nightmares for a few minutes and concentrate on the opposite s*x.  I was 17 years old and had barely even looked at a guy, or a girl for that matter!  But beauty is only skin deep, and whilst Charlie was somewhere near to a greek god with looks, his personality was strange, to say the least. He went from hot to cold in less than a nano second.  He grabbed my hand on the way to the kitchen and it felt like someone had lit a fire in my stomach that exploded in my girlie parts! Two seconds later he puts it down to being hungry and lets me go.  It was like someone had poured a bucket of ice over my libido.! Then he says he wants to know everything about me, I was a little taken aback but it really is one of the nicest things anyone has ever said to me.  This time I get to feel happiness for all of four seconds before he pulls out the rug from under me again.  And then I decide to be polite about his cooking and he bolts off of his chair and runs out of the room.  Unless he's incontinent having to have 'a wee' was a complete lie.  I finished my breakfast and waited to see if he would resurface.  He can't have gone far, he's supposed to be my security detail.  After a few minutes, he reappeared at the door. "Sorry about that,"  He said in a casual tone, but his eyes were very serious. "No worries, are you ok?"   "Yep it's all good" Whatever I thought I'd sensed from him earlier was now completely gone.  His beautiful blue eyes were giving nothing away and he kept a polite smile on his face. So now I had absolutely no idea what to do.  We were sat in silence which wasn't a great thing for me.  I detested uncomfortable silences more than anything else.  I thought about making idle chit-chat but realised that wasn't going to work.  He was so tall and so well built I was actually starting to feel intimidated. "Thank you for breakfast"  I tried, I wanted to re-engage with him but he now seemed completely shut off. "No problem."  Wow thanks, Charlie, You're really giving me something to work with here! The next couple of minutes were agonisingly slow, as we both still sat at the breakfast bar, not really looking at each other.  Until the door swung open and hit the wall with such force it made me jump out of my skin "Hey Charlie, what's with the miserable face?" Asked a blonde super model.   Did no one ugly stay at this hotel.  "Oh hey,"  She said nodding at me. "Alex this is Erin, she is Lucas's deputy, Erin this is Alex.. She's not from around her." "Wow what an intro"  Erin said sarcastically.  "Alex feel free to give me something less boring if you'd like." Charlie made a growling noise in the back of his throat.  It made me half excited and half terrified. "I started my morning off at Liam's place, then I came here.  I'm having nightmares which might be premonitions so April and Lucas have gone to visit someone that they think might be able to help!"  Well if Charlie had now decided against knowing everything about me, then I was going to need a new buddy. "Now that's more like it!"  Erin cried enthusiastically. "Who have they gone to see?" "They didn't say, but they said it wouldn't be too long." Erin didn't reply, she was looking at me, but her eyes were glazed over, I don't think she was actually seeing me. "Are you ok?"  I asked her, a little concerned for her now "Hmmm?  Oh yes sorry I was just daydreaming."  Maybe they did a lot of day drinking at this hotel, I thought to myself silently. "So are we going to see you at dinner tonight?"  Erin asked me "You'll be the guest of honor if it's your first night here." "I'm not sure what the plans are, I guess I'll wait for Lucas and April to get back?" "That's cool, in the meantime what are you up to now?" "Nothing really, Charlie just cooked something for me to eat but we finished a while ago." "Well, if you want to spend your day looking at each other then that's great, but if you want to do something a little more fun, we have a spa downstairs and a gym, oh and an indoor pool" "Actually Erin,"  Charlie jumped in quickly "Alex needs to rest up, I don't think she's slept for over four years so maybe the games room might be a better option?" Charlie's words made me look up at him in surprise.  What did it matter to him if I went for a workout?  He was staring at Erin with what looked like a pleading expression on his face, but it disappeared quickly and I wondered if I'd actually seen anything there at all. "Oh ok sure,  You like movies?  we've got stacks in the other room.  We can sit and chill until the others get back" "Sounds good, thanks Erin"   "Any time"  She said, reaching into a cupboard and then lobbing an oversized bag of popcorn at me.  I tried to dodge it, but she threw it so fast it just hit me square in the face. "Whoops - Sorry, I thought your reaction speed would be quicker." Not one single person had said anything that made sense since I'd been here.  I pushed through the door and stood outside the kitchen.  I didn't know where the games room was so I figured I'd wait for Erin or Charlie. I heard Charlie and Erin speaking. "Thank you, Erin, I really appreciate this.  I just have no idea how to handle her" "Well you better learn honey, or this could be the most miserable  job you've ever been given." Gosh, that was charming, I had no idea that looking after me was such hard work.  I backed away from the door when I heard Erin's footsteps coming towards it.  She faltered a little when she saw me in front of her but seemed to recover quickly. "People that eavesdrop very rarely get things in the right context, you know,"  She said smiling at me "I'll keep that in mind, in case it ever happens, of course"  I smiled back at her, for someone who looked so fabulous, she was very down to earth. She walked ahead of me into the Games room. "So the only question left is... Marvel or DC" "Marvel 100 percent,"  I told her "Looks like you and me are going to get on just fine kiddo" I really hoped so!
