Chapter 12 Summonds

Lucas's Point of View

After I mind linked the supervisor on the day shift to get the mess sorted out in the Grand Hall, and got maintenance to replace an entire bathroom suite I more than deserved to kick back and play a few video games with Charlie and Liam.  Clearly, I was the only one that thought so.

The headache came on in seconds and it was brutal.  It was worse than I had ever experienced when Bethany was trying to reach me,  I felt my nose start to bleed which was standard but I could feel blood running down from my mouth and dripping onto my chin.  The pain only intensified when I tried to reach out to her.  I started to take shallow breaths in between my teeth to try and get a handle on the pain.  In the end, I fell to the floor and curled myself into a ball.  I let out a long howl of distress.  It wouldn't have been heard by every wolf in the pack but certainly everyone in the house.

April was the first one to reach me.  I can't imagine what she thought seeing me curled up in a ball.  I vowed a long time ago to never do anything to make her think I was harmed.

"Oh my Goddess Lucas"  She sounded like she was screaming but at the same time, the sound seemed to be coming from a long way off.  "What the hell has happened to you?"

I couldn't respond, I was in far too much pain.  If I unclenched my jaw to speak I knew I would be screaming in agony.  I wouldn't do that to her, so I just kept my mouth shut.  But Goddess did it hurt.

I heard the harsh voice of Bethany ringing through my mind.  "Alpha, You have something of ours...  you need to come and see me immediately.  ALONE!"

She disconnected and the pain disappeared almost instantly.  I shook my head to try and get rid of the ringing in my ears, I could feel fluid running down the side of my face.  April started to lift me up from the floor, my knees buckled and I landed on my ass.  April sat down next to me and took my hands in hers.

"Lucas, you're absolutely covered in blood,  I thought Bethany's communications were nothing like they used to be? you said they barely even touched you anymore!"

"They didn't until this very second,"  I said in a pained voice.  "I'm hoping this is a one off"

"Come here, let me help you."  She put her hands to my head and started humming a blissful tune.  I relaxed in her arms and let her healing abilities take over my body and fix every small little piece of me that was hurting.  After a few minutes, she stopped and I felt like a new man.  I pulled April close into my body and kissed her with everything I had.  She instantly responded and my body caught fire.  When I kissed April it was like the first time all over again, I would never get used to the way she made me feel.  After four years I thought that the edge might fade a little - No chance, she made my life whole when she was close to me and I was bereft when she left me.  I loved her more than I ever thought possible.  She'd given me a chance to make things right between us, and we'd ended up with our amazing family and fantastic friends.  She gave me everything I had ever wanted.

After only a few minutes she started to pull away from me and I growled.  "Later Lucas,"  I pouted - Yeah me big tough Alpha pouting - and she laughed at me.  "The longer you wait the better it will be"  She leaned forward and put her lips to my ear "I promised"  She whispered.  My body responded immediately and my shorts got tight.  One word from that beautiful mouth was all it ever took.  

"But for now, we need to discuss what the hell just happened."

"Bethany wants to see me alone!  She said I've got something of hers and she sounds pretty pissed about it"  Pissed was an understatement, she sounded livid.

"You're not going anywhere near her on your own if she's going to harm you like this.  I'm coming with you!"  April used her non negotiating voice.  I'd learned to recognise it over the years, especially when my Mom tried to railroad her with the Wedding.  

"What if you make things worse?"    I tried.  It was pointless trying to argue with her, but I thought I'd give it a shot.  I hated her anywhere near something that might hurt her.

"If I do, I'll be there to heal you, so it won't matter either way".  "Besides"  She continued "I wouldn't mind betting this has something to do with Alex, giving the random weather we got as soon as she stepped in front of the house."

I thought about that.  If it wasn't then it would be a major coincidence.

"Why would she say Alex belonged to her?  Does she collect humans?"  April said with a smile.

"Well we're not going to figure it out sat down on the floor,"  I said getting up to my feet.  I felt a hundred times better than I had a few minutes ago.  "She said she wants me there now, so I guess maybe we better get going."

"I'll just let Lauren know what's going on,"  April said as her eyes glazed over.

"No need to text,"  Said a voice behind us, "We're here now"

I turned around to see Lauren walking towards us, with Alex walking very slowly behind her. She was fidgeting with her hands and looked extremely nervous.  When she stood in front of me she had her head bowed.  I looked at Lauren who just shrugged like it was no big deal.

"Alex?"  

She looked at me with a very serious face.  She looked so much better after a shower and a hair wash, but she still didn't look well.  My heart felt really heavy when I looked at her.  My resolve hardened, we were going to go to Bethany and get this sorted out.

"Yes Alpha?"  I shot a death glare at Lauren, what the hell had she been talking to her about.

"Why are you calling Lucas that?"  April asked, giving Lauren the same sort of look

"Lauren told me it was a sign of respect at your hotel.  I wanted to use your title so you could see how grateful I am for you letting me stay here.  And to show how sorry I am about the bathroom."

I couldn't bear to hear her upset.  I grabbed her hand, I don't know what possessed me to do it, there was nothing s****l about it,  It felt like she was family.  I looked at April with wide eyes.  To her absolute credit she nodded at me, she understood what I was feeling. "Alex, don't worry about the bathroom, it's ceramics and wood, people are much harder to replace you know"

She smiled. "Thank you Alpha"  I was probably gonna kill Lauren for this at some stage.  But right now we had other things going on.

"We're going to see someone who we think might be able to help you Alex."

"Oh my God really?"  Her whole face lit up like she'd just won the lottery.

"Yes, but only April and I can go.  So can you stay with Lauren and Liam?"

"Actually"  Lauren cut in "Liam and I need to take Samuel home.  He's fallen asleep in the nursery and we really need to get going otherwise, he'll be murder later."

"Well I can stay here on my own, I don't want to be any trouble,"  Alex said bowing her head again.  Yep, I was definitely going to kill my sister-in-law.

"You can stay with Charlie."  April offered "He's in the games room, so you can hang out with him."

April reached for Alex and hugged her tightly.

"April we need to go,"  I said.  I did not want to keep Bethany waiting, the sooner we sorted this out the sooner we could start helping Alex.  "We'll be as quick as we can."  I turned to Lauren.  "Tell my brother I'll call him later"

I grabbed April by the hand and we left the packhouse.

"April, back there, with Alex I mean"

She interrupted me straight away "Lucas, she's family.  I don't know how but she is.  I'm not jealous"

"Day one of being my wife!"  I grumbled.

"Best Day Ever!"  April Grinned
