Faye - POV As Alpha Oscar walked closer, I couldn't help but step back. However, I felt an unexpected warmth when his hand brushed against my skin. "It looks like we're still connected, Faye," Alpha Oscar whispered gently. Despite his words, I moved away from him. Seeing him, the person who couldn't stand me, was strange, now standing so close and acting so differently. "Stay away from me, Alpha Oscar," I said firmly, trying to keep him at a distance. But he didn't listen to my warning and took a step closer. Just then, Atlas stepped in, positioning himself between Alpha Oscar and me. "What are you doing?" Alpha Oscar snapped, clearly annoyed and jealous. "Stopping you from troubling Faye," Atlas answered calmly. "You wanted to end things with her yesterday, and she agreed. What more do you want?" "I have a reason. The mate bond between us isn't completely gone," Alpha Oscar argued. "I need to figure out why, and she needs to return to the Orion Pack with me." Alpha Atlas said, "She's not returning to the Orion Pack. She's now a member of the Red Night Pack.'" This news made Alpha Oscar visibly angry. "You can't do that without my permission," he argued. " So, technically, she is still a member of the Orion Pack." "Do you still feel the mate bond with Faye?" Alpha Oscar asked me. "No, I don't feel it anymore," I said, even though it wasn't true. I didn't want to return to the Orion Pack, where I felt like I didn't belong, especially near someone who cared for my cousin Mae rather than me. "You heard her. She doesn't feel the mate bond," Atlas supported my lie. "Stop lying to me, Faye," Alpha Oscar said sharply. "You felt the mate bond." I just swallowed hard, not knowing what to say. "It doesn't matter. I don't want to go back," I answered Alpha Oscar. "Oscar, listen to me," Alpha Atlas intervened, standing between us and making Oscar unhappy. "You need to return to your pack, end things with Mae for good, and move on. Faye is no longer yours; you're just confused." "What?" Oscar was taken aback. "Why would I do that?" Atlas then told him about what Mae had done to me and bullied me. "You're just making this up to take sides with Faye, a liar. You're accusing Mae of things she didn't do. She wouldn't hurt anyone," Alpha Oscar defended. "Do you have any proof of what Mae did?" Alpha Oscar asked, turning to me. "I was hurt by Mae. It's true," I said, trying to make them believe me. "You're lying," Oscar accused. "If you were bullied, why didn't you come forward and tell someone?" I went silent, and Alpha Oscar scoffed. Alpha Atlas looked at me in question, too, and I didn't want to go into detail about what happened; I knew Alpha Oscar wouldn't believe me. " Faye, I'm here to take you back and end this mate bond between us once and for all. And Atlas, stop spreading lies about Mae. If you try to take my pack members or speak ill of Mae again, I'll forget we were ever friends. Let's go, Faye." He grabbed my hand, trying to make me leave with him. "Let her go, Oscar," Alpha Atlas said sternly, catching everyone's attention. Seeing the two alphas ready to argue made me nervous. "Faye needs some time, and so do you. How about you leaving, and we can talk about this later? I don't want any trouble," Atlas suggested. "Fine, I will come back in a week." Alpha Oscar said coldly, and his hand left my wrist as he left; Atlas turned to me sternly. "Follow me to my office," he said, and I followed him. "You still feel connected to Oscar, don't you?" Atlas asked me, his voice serious. I tried to step back but ended up against the wall. "No," I lied, unprepared to admit the truth and scared of returning to a place where I wasn't treated well. "You're not telling me everything, Faye. Did you sense the mate bond with Oscar?" I nodded, agreeing with him. "And why didn't you speak up about Mae's bullying? You kept it a secret from Oscar; why?" Atlas's voice was stern as he spoke. "I want to hear the truth from you, Faye." His commanding presence made it impossible for me to move past him. "I don't want to go back to Orion," I whispered, feeling overwhelmed. "I have feelings for Alpha Oscar but can't be with him. Mae, my cousin, wants him, and I've lost too much in Orion; I didn't tell on Mae because she had threatened to fabricate things against my mom and hurt her. Even though I still feel a mate bond with Alpha Oscar, I can't go back," I admitted, tears running down my face. Atlas looked at me, but I couldn't read his expression. "I'm sorry for lying, Alpha Atlas." "You're staying with the Red Night Pack. It doesn't matter if you feel mate to Oscar," Atlas said coldly, "Also, you can call me by name." He said. I nodded, trying to stop crying, but then Atlas gently wiped my tears away. His touch surprised me, trying to understand his feelings. "I'm sorry about what happened to you, Faye," he said kindly, his voice now gentle. "Can I leave?" I asked. He nods. I distanced myself, and walking in haste to get out of his office, I hurt my sprained leg and almost fell when Alpha Atlas's hands held me. "You need to be careful, Faye. You're still healing," Atlas noted, and then he surprised me by picking me up. "Atlas, I can walk. It'll get better; my healing will kick in," I insisted, even though he told me my healing might take longer. "Why are you so concerned about me?" I wondered, feeling a mix of guilt and curiosity. His care was comforting, but I knew others were watching us. "Atlas, I can manage," I tried to protest, but he just gave me a look that meant I should stay quiet. He placed me on the bed, and a maid called the doctor for my ankle. Trying to hide my pain didn't work; it hurt a lot when the doctor checked my ankle. Atlas looked worried momentarily, and then his expression returned to normal. "What's going on? Is she okay?" Ash, another member, came in, and Atlas explained what had happened with my ankle and Oscar's visit. After the doctor finished with my sprained ankle, he said I would take two days to heal because of the weak healing power of my wolf, which slowed the healing of my injuries. "Don't worry; I'll take good care of Faye," Ash said, and Atlas left with the doctor. Sitting up in bed, I tried to sort through all that had happened when Ash sat beside me. Her mood changed quickly when she brought up my cousin Mae, who was looking at me with disappointment. "Mae told me you tried to get Oscar's attention, even though you knew your cousin's sister liked him. She thinks you were trying to get in the way of their relationship." "That's not how it was," I explained. "Alpha Oscar and I were just friends. He made a mistake kissing me because he thought I liked him back when we were teenagers, but I didn't let him kiss me. Mae misunderstood and thought it was more than it was. I've kept my distance from Alpha Oscar to avoid more trouble." I also mentioned that my feelings for Oscar had only changed recently; before that, he was only a best friend, which Mae seemed to have difficulty accepting. Ash didn't seem convinced. "You must have done something to Atlas; he's never this concerned about anyone. And why did he carry you if it's just a sprained ankle?" Ash spoke disdained, "He never gets this close to me, and we're engaged. You just got here, and you're already important to him. Maybe Mae was right about you." Her accusation hurt wildly as her hand twisted my sprained ankle, and I winced in pain. I think misery and pain follow me everywhere I go. I have a new enemy now. It's Ash Clarke. I felt dread at my situation.
