Kai crept down the steps, listening to the banging and clambering coming from the kitchen. He reached the bottom landing with a loud sigh. Finn had returned very late the other night from who knows where; he and Haisley were never able to find him. When Finn did come home, he went straight to his room, slamming the door. The following day, he acted as if nothing had happened at all.  Thanksgiving had arrived, and Kai could not put his mother off again. She demanded his presence in her kitchen before the family meal and during it so he could not hang around the Roberts’ house to keep an eye on Finn.
