Nighthowl Kingdom

  It was lunch break and seven students decided to have their break in their new hang out place. The old shack behind the school building. The two guys Damon and Hades are playing ball while the girls just sat on the porch beside a picnic basket.

  It’s been that way since the boy Hades started hanging out with them. They would bring food in the shack, and spend the entire lunch break there. They all sat and gathered around, and eat their food.

“Hey Farah, is it true that my sisters are taking you to Nighthowl kingdom?” Matt asked Farah.

  Matt was noble damphyr while Farah was human.

“Yes. They said they needed an assistant there. The Luna Queen has asked them to make her new set of dresses for the week long celebration of the Alpha King’s birthday.” Farah said, and Matt frowned.

“But you are supposed to be my assistant.” Matt whined, Farah chuckled.

  Farah, the former blood slave now works for Matt as his assistant.

  “They are just borrowing me, and they will be paying me for my services.”Farah said.

  Matt dramatically gasped.

“Hey, I am paying you!” Matt exclaimed, and Farah chuckled again.

“They pay double for this trip.” She said, and Matt pouted more.

“Not fair.” He said.

“Who would’ve known Farah would be an in demand in the Grayson House.” Lana Ramiro, the young duchess said.

“Of course! This girl is a hardworking and talented girl.” Matt said.

  Farah blushed while everyone else looked proud of her. Gone was the abused human slave, she’s now a hardworking assistant in the Grayson House.

  Ever since Farah was saved from the clutches of her former master, she felt free. Living under the Falicier House was a nightmare. She was starved, beaten and almost died.

  Now that she was living under the Grayson House, she was able to work rightfully and earn real money. Her new employer Baron Desmond Grayson was very nice and generous. He respects humans as if they are his equal.

  Grayson House is one of the noble families of Aragon in which don’t patronize pure breeding. The late Baroness Matilde Grayson was a human, making Matt and his older sisters damphyrs.

  Farah really works for Matt as his assistant, but sometimes the twin baronesses would steal her to assist them. Just like this instance where she was taken by the twins to accompany them to the Nighthowl Kingdom.

  Nighthowl Kingdom is the lycanthrope kingdom. Werewolves lived freely in this land with humans. Each pack was lead by an Alpha and Luna, together with their beta and delta. And all Alphas submit under the reign of the Alpha King and Luna Queen.

“Is this your first time here in Nighthowl?”Mylene, one of the twins asked Farah.

“Yes, it’s my first time going out of Aragon.”Farah answered.

“You’re going to like it here. They have beautiful sceneries and scrumptious food!”Myriam, the other twin said.

  Farah smiled.

“Our appointment with the Queen is not until tomorrow morning. You can still look around when we get to our rented residence.”Myriam said. 

  Farah nodded.

  They just got off the ferry ride, and they’re on a car that the Queen assigned to be their service vehicle. Their chauffeur is currently driving them towards the house where they will be staying for a while.

  The twins are actually quite famous in all kingdoms for their glamorous designs on clothes, especially gowns. Thus the reason they are in Nighthowl Kingdom, because the Luna Queen called for their services.

  When they got to their assigned residence, Farah was in awe when she saw it. The house was like it came out straight from a fairy tale book. It was made up of stone and thick wooden planks. The roof includes curved edges that wrap around gables and rakes, and their finished appearance makes a dramatic impression on both visitors and passersby.

  Then several pack servants came and helped them with their bags, carrying them inside the house. The twins held hands as they looked at the house as if they are both in love with it. One of the quirky traits of the twins is being childish.

“Pretty...”The twins said in unison.

  Then a car parked in front of them, and a tall man with brown hair climbed out. The man approached them and extended his hand towards the twin.

“Welcome to Nighthowl Kingdom. My name is Devin Garrik, the royal Beta.”The man said.

  The twins shook his hand looking smitten by the royal Beta.

“My name is Mylene Grayson and this is my sister Myriam.”Mylene introduced them.

  The royal Beta gave them a curt nod, and then his eyes fell on Farah.

“Who is this fine young lady?”Devin asked.

“This is Farah Fowler, our assistant.”Myriam said.

  Farah bowed her head.

“A human? Grayson house is indeed one of the kindest families in Aragon. Are you happy with your work Ms. Fowler?”Devin asked.

  Farah nodded.

“Yes sir. Grayson House is better than my previous employer.”Farah said.

  Devin kissed his teeth, and shook his head.

“So I’ve heard.”Devin paused and clapped his hand.

“The Queen made sure that you’ll have everything you’d need inside this house. She expects you in the palace at breakfast tomorrow.”Devin told then twins.

“That’s great. We’ll be working on the other designs that we’ll present to her majesty tomorrow.”Mylene said.

“Farah, you can explore while we’re doing our work.”Myriam told their assistant.

“Thank you miss.”Farah said.

“Explore? It is your first time?”Devin asked.

“Yes sir.”Farah answered.

“Well, in that case let me accompany you with your exploration.”Devin offered.

  Farah was surprised, and then she looked at the twins who wiggled their eyebrows. Farah internally sighed and looked at Devin.

“If I won’t be a bother sir, I’d gladly accept your invitation.”Farah said.

  Devin grinned.

“Do you still need to freshen up or do you want to explore now?”He asked.

“Take her; she doesn’t need to freshen up.”The twins said in unison.

  Devin chuckled softly and guided Farah towards his car. When Farah was safely seated, Devin climbed in the driver’s side and drove off.

  While on the road, Farah kept her eyes on the vast green land around them.

“It’s green everywhere.”Farah said.

“Our wolves needed our run, so the wide grass fields are needed.”Devin said.

“It’s quite refreshing to see all this. Aragon looks more of a ghost town nowadays.”Farah said, sadly.

“I understand what you mean. The Aragon I remember was rich and peaceful. Back in the day when we get invited in various celebrations, we can see the people of Aragon from different class mingle together. But now, most of them were out casted.”Devin said.

“Yeah. We, humans are nothing but blood slaves. I’m grateful that I met Matt Grayson and Lana Ramiro in school.”Farah said.

“Ramiro? Alpha King and I are actually friends with Duke Lucca.”Devin said.

“Duke Lucca is one of our teachers now.”Farah told Devin, who looked surprised.

“Lucca? Teacher? How is that even possible?”He asked.

“We have no idea. But Lana, his sister said maybe he did that to look out for Jaimee.”Farah answered.

“And who is this Jaimee? His daughter?”Devin asked, and Farah chuckled softly.

“No. Jaimee is a human like me who works for the Ramiro house. She’s best friends with Lana, and she liked the young Duke.”Farah paused.

“What made you think she was his daughter?”She asked.

“Well, because I know Lucca Ramiro was married to Jimena Aragon.”Devin said.

  Farah whipped her head towards Devin with eyes wide as saucers.

“What?!”

“I am one of the few visitors during their secret wedding. Not many know about it.”Devin said.

“Wow. That’s one revelation.”Farah mumbled.

“But then tragedy struck them.”Devin said.

“Maybe that’s why he was very temperamental.”She said.

“Nope. He’s always been that way since the beginning. Only the princess can tame that tiger.”Devin said.

  The two of them chat while they drove around. Devin is really attracted to the human; she was pretty and very sensible, and it made him enjoy her company. He took her to see the beautiful lake in front of the great mountain range, where Farah took several photos. They ate snacks in small food trucks in downtown streets.

  Devin also took her in the most modernized area of the Kingdom where there are shopping mall instead of markets filled with small merchants.

“This place is really cool.”Farah said.

“Yeah.”

“Everything looks costly. How about the small merchants? Where are they selling their goods?”Farah asked.

  Devin looked away.

“The Queen banned them in this district. Small merchants were sent towards the Northern part of the Kingdom.”Devin said.

“According to our class, the Northern part of Nighthowl is the outskirts. Most packs there were small and belonged to the lower class.”Farah said.

“Yes that is correct. Actually our Kingdom isn’t far different from Aragon when it comes to equality.”Devin said.

  They continued to drive around and Devin managed to drive near a land where everything seems dead. Grass were brown and burnt; there are ruins and remains of old houses and buildings.

“What happened here?”Farah asked.

“This land used to belong to a small pack. But the alpha opposed the Alpha King on giving up his daughter to be one of his mistresses.”

“What?”

“The Alpha King Mason is a friend of mine, but he changed a lot over the years. He loves his Luna but he loves power as much as he loves different women in his bed.”Devin said.

“That’s awful.”Farah mumbled.

“I know. As his friend I tried to give him some advices but he never listens. As his Beta I need to follow his every word.”

“Maybe he’s just stressed with running the whole kingdom. Every person has different ways of coping with the stress. Some were good, some were bad.”Farah explained.

“You know, you’re right. Mason has been the King of Nighthowl since the very young age. Anyway, I hope you enjoy our little tour.”He said, and farah grinned.

“Yes I did thank you.”Farah said.

“I’d better take you back so you can still rest before the presentation tomorrow.”Devin said, and he drove back towards where Farah and the twins were staying.
