Hush needed to be quiet. He couldn’t go around blabbing about what he was. It wouldn’t end well. He wanted to spend more time with Manning. To be around him was a kind of freedom he’d never experienced. He didn’t demand anything of Hush and yet there were small trickles of energy leaking his way every so often. He could walk by Manning’s side for an eternity and never starve. The energy surges were directed to him—they were for him. The only other person he’d met who’d had their energy directly aimed at Hush was North, but there had never been those small sparks.
