Charlotte woke up feeling drained, and it wasn’t because of the nightmares she’d had. Memories of her pathetic attempt to win over Liam haunted her as she got dressed, and when she walked into the kitchen to find Greg eating one of the homemade rolls for breakfast, she felt the sting of tears in her eyes. “Morning,” she greeted him in a soft voice. “Hey,” he replied after swallowing a bite of the roll. He was looking at her in that way that she hated: with pity and sympathy. Charlotte hated being pitied. “Liam came by last night,” he said. “He did?” she asked in surprise.
