1. Beginnings
**This is the second story in the Omega Princess line. Some of the story will flow in and out of the original storyline. This story focuses on the coming of age of Millie and Valerie.**
I am Millie. I am 15 and an Omega at the Royal Palace. Being an Omega is not a bad job. It has been in my family for four generations. It is an honor to serve the royal family.
I wish, one day, I could be a warrior. I am young but I am tall and stronger than I look. My lean frame makes me look weak, but I train and run every second I am able. It isn’t that I am not grateful for the position I was given; it is just I dream of more.
I was orphaned at a young age due to an invasion of dragons at the palace. As p*****t for all the years of service and the lives offered of my parents, I was taken care of. I will serve the royal family as an Omega like my parents before me. It isn’t like some pack houses. This is the royal palace.
We attend school up till high school, when we are expected to attend school online and work before and after to earn our keep. When I was younger, before my service began, I remember walking past the training grounds on the way to elementary. The men and women would be finishing up their morning training. Sometimes one or two of them would stop to wave as I watched. On other occasions, they would show me some moves. They were my heroes.
My family have always been Omegas. My parents had served the royal family for centuries. My mother had been head Omega of the palace until the attack. The new head Omega of the palace, treats me well. She was the second in command under my mother and has watched me grow up. I get special assignments sometimes. I know I am lucky and blessed, but I still dream of being a warrior and protecting my family.
I divide my day between school, work, and training. This has made me tall and lean. I wake up early to run and stay up late to train before I prepare for bed. I was stronger than people would think. I look small to some. My fair skin and hair also make others underestimate me.
When I turned 15 last month I shifted. This was a year earlier than most wolves. Shifting didn’t come as a surprise to me. I have been talking to my wolf Skia since I was 12. I never told anyone as I know that is not normal. A wolf is usually given to us, and we shift at the age of 16. Some will hear their wolf at 15 but not many that I know of have shifted early or could talk to their wolf so young. To keep my secret, I need to run in human form for a few miles before I shift into Skia so I am not seen.
Today I wouldn’t have time for that long of a run. We were told late last night that we were setting up for a special guest. Last week the royal family had left to meet a person at Violet Moon Pack. Rumor was it is to be Prince Cole’s mate.
If that is true, it will break many hearts around the palace. Prince Cole was tall with light brown skin and darker brown hair. He too had green eyes like his family. He was muscular and handsome with a charismatic smile with a bit of mischief in it.
She must be one special wolf to be the chosen mate of Prince Cole. As a royal we all knew he could pick anyone he wanted as a mate without the pain caused by losing a true mate. It is something only royals feel or don’t feel. Many of my fellow Omegas would spend extra time getting ready when assigned to Cole. Their hope was to be noticed. They were noticed but not in the way they wanted.
I was not among these girls who swooned at his smile. I wanted to wait for my true mate. The person who would give me a family back. The one Selene planned for me. I even felt a bit bad for Cole, Cora, Carly, and Cash. It had been rumored they may be forced to mate with certain high-born wolves to align packs. I would take being an Omega and finding love over that.
Most of the royals were pleasant enough. My favorite was Cash. There was something about his playful spirit. I was very young when his mother died and as it was a family secret we do talk about it. There were many formalities that needed to be followed or our payments could be garnished. I had only one month more to pay for my stay at the orphanage. Once I paid that I would be free make my own path. I would start saving funds for when I found my mate or to start towards my dream of training.
I know the King did not look favorably on changing statuses but once I proven myself, I knew I could do it.
The bell rang for us to go to the kitchen for weekly assignments. I threw on my black leggings and white tank top. This was ok to wear until families returned after which it would be back to our uniforms.
I greeted others as I passed. I looked up at my assignment. 1st maid to Princess Fillian Carnell.
“Princess?” I exclaimed.
“Maybe they already mated?” Amelia frowned. She would be the second maid.
“I don’t think Cole would mate anyone without them meeting the pack first.” I replied and she smiled.
“What if she is horribly entitled?” Liza asked. She would be the third and night maid.
“You mean a spoiled brat who calls themselves a princess?” Amelia restated.
“We will find out tomorrow. Today we have a job to do and that is getting the princess’s room ready.” I replied as I grabbed the clipboard flipped the page for things that would be need for set-up. Typically, this is favorite colors, flowers, scents, snacks, and requests. I even had one Alpha’s daughter request only gold-plated glasses with fresh squeezed lemons in her water to be refilled every hour. Which she never drank.
To my shock the second page was blank.
“There must be a mistake.” I directed toward the Head Omega of the Palace.
“No mistake dear.” She replied as I threw her a quizzical look.
“It’s blank.” I waved the clipboard at her.
“I know girl. Do your best. We know nothing other than she is coming and Cole must woo her.” The woman scoffed. “Woo her? Our Prince. She should be lucky if he looks in her direction.”
I gave her a smile. Cole is the next king and a favorite of many not just the young impressionable ones.
“Millie,” she stopped me. “Don’t mess up. I will text you if I get anything. The king was clear that we must impress her. She is to be our next Luna and Queen.”
I took a deep breath and started to walk to the room they had assigned her. I wish I was anywhere but here. How bad would it be for me if something was not right? Would we be dismissed?
The other girls looked at me with the same worry in their eyes.
“We can do this.” I assured them.
I left out the word HOPE. We will need the graces of Selene to pull this off.
As we began to work on the room starting with the cleaning later, we would set the theme and create the perfect room.
“I can sense a change is coming,” Skia said.
“What kind of change?” I asked. Closing my eyes
“Life changing. Not sure if it is good or bad. Our path is about to split I can sense it,” she said.
Well, that was not what I needed. As I looked at the blank canvas being cleaned for us to design a heaven for a princess out of nothing.
