ESMERALDA
"Now, that's a good girl," the Vera-witch said slowly, using her free hand to adjust her hair. How I badly wanted to claw at her and make her understand that she shouldn't be a proud ass just because one teacher obeyed her decision.
She released her grip on my hair and made her way out of the classroom, with one other girl following her closely.
I heard different mocking giggles and whispers from the other students and it got on my sensitive nerves. It made me feel even more horrible than I already was.
I limped out of the classroom painfully and luckily for me, I didn't run into another witch or wizard until I entered the restroom.
I sighed heavily, the corner of my burning with unshed tears but I never planned on shedding any more tears.
The restroom door flicked open and a girl walked in sophisticatedly and I wondered if she was also a rude brat like Vera Diego.
I quickly switched on the waterline and I rinsed my hands and sanitized them before washing my face.
"Hey"
I heard the girl call but I wasn't in the mood to get into another episode of some rich girl's arrogance.
"Look… I'm sorry about what happened in the classroom a few moments ago. There's nothing a 'second class candidate' like me could do to stop them but I'm sorry on their behalf" the girl explained silently and I was forced to see who it was.
I recalled the first good impression I had made when I first got into the school and I could see that she was the girl I had bumped into.
I muttered a 'wow' to myself as I saw how pretty she was and how she could still be so polite to a 'third class candidate' like me.
Her hair was a unique color and it made me wonder if she dyed it. It strangely matched the color of her eyes, making me doubt the fact that she might have dyed it.
"Why are you telling me this? I mean you could have pretended not to see that and maintained your peaceful lane while I concentrated on my noisy lowlife" I said almost immediately and she pressed her lips together in a thin line.
"I just want to be friends" she replied simply and I frowned.
"Isn't this the first time I have heard that in my whole eighteen years of living?" a voice muttered in my head, making me smile inwardly.
"Okay, I get that but I can't possibly just become friends when I'm not sure if I'm just being set up here," I told her clearly and I saw her sigh sadly.
"I understand your fear but I'd never do that to someone who's already in more problems than I could imagine. I just felt your sincerity when you apologized to me and I knew you were a good person" the girl muttered gently and turned to leave.
"Are you leaving? Aren't you going to wait until I say the final point of view about us being friends?" I found myself asking and she turned to face me again, a line forming above her brows.
"I'm also sorry for bumping into you the other time and I appreciate you for caring about me" I murmured silently and she smiled broadly.
"I'm Nela Robinson" she introduced herself quickly
"I'm Esmeralda Colters" I replied and she extended her hands for a handshake which I reciprocated.
"Nice name by the way and your eyes are captivating" she mouthed and I blinked twice.
"Nice hair color and matching eyes by the way. You look unique in those" I told her gently and she sighed.
"I was born that way" she huffed and I caressed her hands gently. "They're beautiful," I said and she smiled lightly.
"Thank you, Esmeralda," she said and checked the time on her bracelet-like wristwatch.
"It's breakfast time" she shrieked, pulling me out of the restroom.
We arrived at the cafeteria and I'd say it was even more presentable than my whole house.
"Jeez! Magnificent is an understatement for the beauty of this school and all the buildings within.
She pulled me to the serving cabinet and I was surprised when she picked up the spoon and started dishing out what she'd like to eat.
'There's even freedom to eat as much as you want?'
"Yes," Nela replied and I cooed.
I took the spoon and served myself. I could see Nela's eyes almost bulging out of their socket at the sight of the food I had taken.
She snatched the spoon from me and reduced everything to a normal size. I shot her a glare but she stuck out her tongue in response.
I giggled and followed her as she strolled to find an empty table.
All the tables at the cafeteria were designed for two.
"You should try going on a diet, you'll become even prettier If you do," Nela said gently and I shrugged.
"Maybe I'm just okay being this way" I replied and she c****d her head.
"You're still pretty anyway" she added and I smiled before raising a spoon to my lips.
"How long have you been here?" I asked and she creased her brows.
"Three years" she replied after a minute of recalling.
"Then you should know a lot about the school and those in the school?" I said it more like a statement than a question.
"Yeah"
"Well… the Locci High is a one of a kind as you know and with three categories of students"
"The third-class candidate" includes those from little-earning families and those who got in with scholarships. They mostly fall victim to bullies by the First and second-class candidates.
"The middle-class candidates" include people like me, who are from wealthy families but not to the peak like the first-class candidates. As a second-class, you mostly fall victim to bullying when you have a special trait.
"I was a victim in my first year but Jace saved me and warned off every bully by threatening to press charges if anyone hurt me"
"Wow, lucky you" I muttered, taking another spoonful in my mouth.
"Then the first-class candidates" which includes the four most influential students in town and even in the school.
The fourth-ranking first-class candidate. VERA DIEGO. From a stinkingly wealthy family and a completely rude brat. 'The queen of the school'. You had better stay away from her at all costs.
The third-ranking first-class candidate. MILES CARTER. His family's wealth is even more than Vera's. He's one handsome bad boy. He disappeared without a trace for the past six months. Rumor has it that he might become Vera's stepbrother sooner or later.
The second-ranking first-class candidate. JACE WILLOWS. Killian's only friend and Vera's mortal enemy even though she's his best friend's girlfriend. He's kind-hearted but a freaking playboy.
Then the first ranking and the overall boss of the school. KILLIAN MAVERICK. His mom owns the school and his dad… is just the big talk of Cali and even abroad. He has a lot of girls but Vera is his favorite. He could date five girls in one week.
"Saying you should avoid him is an understatement"
"Why?" I found myself asking.
"He's as mean as the devil himself. He's hot, handsome, and greatly ruthless in some ways" she concluded and a shiver made its way down my spine.
KILLIAN MAVERICK!
The name kept echoing in my head.
