Chapter 29 Amatheon’s moon wasn’t much to look at from the surface. It was tiny, just a slightly brighter point of light than the stars beyond it, moving across the sky just fast enough for you to observe if you were bored and willing to stare at it long enough. Scout had done that herself many times, spread out under a tent of prairie grass waiting for sleep to take her. But Amatheon’s moon seen up close was quite fascinating. Not exactly beautiful, but unforgettable. Red bands squiggled over the otherwise beige surface, looking from the distance like a fertilized egg with a chicken just beginning to form inside, one band with a blot of darker scarlet that looked like an eye.
