CHAPTER 9 -         I need you like a heart needs a beat  - Gabriel decided to have breakfast in the kitchen afterwards. There are many faces that I had encountered on our way. Since the castle is a huge bunch to clean, there might be more than a hundred maids. I saw some of them on our way here; they're wearing a navy blue uniform and not a maid outfit. But I consider them maids or workers. They bow their heads as Gabriel approaches. Some of them flung bad looks at me and all I can do is smile, lame. We headed to the kitchen and an old lady greeted Gabriel with a smile. I never notice Gabriel smile back at anyone unless it’s me, is he always like that? Like the other maids the old woman wears the same. Her hair is colored black with tips of white, which must be due to her age. Her eyes are brown and if I wasn't mistaken, she's in her eighties. "What would you like to have in breakfast Alpha, “she paused, "Luna?" Gabriel ignored her and pulled a chair for me to sit on. He pulled another for his. He looked at me and asks, "What would you like?" "Uh. I'm okay with what's available." I replied, giving an apologetic look to the old woman. What is wrong with you Gabriel? "Rebecca, bring anything here." he ordered the old lady and she went to the kitchen. Poor her, I think she's way too old to work anymore. Old ladies like Rebecca should take a rest from the stressful work. "That's so absurd. You can't treat an old lady like that." I whispered to his ears. "Let me be." He said and poured water to his cup and slowly gulped every drop. Is he disappointed because I pushed him and broke off from the kiss? Rebecca returned with a tray on her hands. She gently placed it in front of us before smiling and I smiled at her. The tray contained bacon and steak, a cup of dark coffee and milk. I inhaled the freshly cooked bacon and steak and my mouth immediately watered. Gabriel took a sip on his coffee and I ate some strips of bacon. He was paying attention on his phone and he looked really troubled. I was about to ask him what is wrong when I heard a woman screamed “What is happening?!” I rose from my seat and Gabriel immediately pulled up to him. He groaned when the kitchen staff panicked and I too. I was clutching his shirt really hard as I pressed my face to his chest. I can clearly hear his deep breaths and low growl. He tried to calm me down by whispering soothing words but it did not work. I closed my eyes tightly. Gabriel got his phone and started calling someone, asking about what is happening and what is the cause. I can hear panic on the other line of contact and Gabriel hissed. Second or two other women screamed loud and I trembled in terror as the sound of dripping liquid was heard. He silently lifted me and I pulled him closer. The kitchen is huge and so he ran towards the closet where aprons and clothes were folded inside. It wasn’t difficult for me to get inside as it is exactly my size. I am terrified and refused to let him go. I started crying when he kissed my cheeks and placed his finger near my lips to silent me. I just nodded as he gave a handkerchief to cover my mouth. “Stay here. Everything will be under control.” He said and the closet door closed and darkness engulfed me inside this small compartment. I tried to remain as calm as possible, to think that I am safe inside and nothing will happen. However, the loud noises outside tell me the opposite. Loud thud on the floor and I heard Gabriel’s fierce growl. I hear a lot of weird noises that make me want to stay and want me to go. It was hard to think that my mate is outside and I am here hopeless. Few minutes later another rumble of snarls and growls are heard. I yelped and the room silenced. After that, a man burst out of a wholesome and stimulating laughter, creepy tone of voice and he's definitely not Gabriel. My body wasn’t able to move as loud steps became clearer and clearer. It’s going for me. “I heard her Gabriel. I heard her..” says the voice of a stranger. I pressed the handkerchief harder and harder as tears ran through my cheeks. Another soft whimper escaped my lips and I heard a ferocious growl and loud thud just below this closet! Gabriel and his enemy snarled at each other, their hard bangs at the closet terrified me. Please, stop it. I smelled something unpleasant after the fight ends, heaps of red liquid oozed from outside. I hugged myself and closed my eyes shut. The small space is becoming smaller and smaller as I breathe. The door slowly opened and I screamed on top of my lungs. Warm hands embraced me and I desperately fought back. I want to get out of here! Someone please help! I kicked and punched him with my remaining strength. "It’s okay now, everything is under control." I sobbed. He---- "Are you hurt? Is there something that needs medical attention? Let's call a doctor." I suggested. "I'm perfectly fine. Let's go to our room and you should take a rest." Gabriel said. Though all that happened.. it seems like a no big-thing to him. "No. Just a bit more." I said and tightened my arms. He walked slowly, his hands on my thighs. As he walked through the hall I saw blood stained floors and scratches on the couch. I shivered on what I saw next, a man lying down with a large opened wound on his neck and his body covered with blood. On the left I saw a woman, a maid, rather with her chest open. Her eyes were still opened. It’s really terrifying to look, but the other one made me regret looking. The wall was cracked by the impact and the body cannot be recognized anymore, his body is shred to pieces. Tears fell once more. Gabriel calmed me but I couldn’t help it. What the hell is this place? "Don't look." We reached our door room and cast it open. He placed me on the bed and I lied down. He changed his shirt and followed me to bed. My body was still in shock and I curled into a ball to stop myself from shaking. Gabriel played with my hair and kept placing soft kisses on my neck. "What were those?" I asked in a shaking voice. "The Iron Fist sent us a surprise attack. But don't worry anymore, okay? The situation is under control. They always play tricks and all they cause is harm, but that is what my business is about, I'm clearing the obstacles that'll come on our way. I will do it myself." He caressed my face. "You'll get yourself killed, Gabriel. What if they're aware of your presence? What if all of this was planned? What if it’s a trap?" I said a bit loud, making him laugh. "Trust me. I will give them all I've got. Soon they will plead and kneel to me. Trust me." He said and grins. I am not satisfied, to be honest. This is too crazy! Life is important and they just go out there ending it. Is this something Gabriel grew up doing? Mine is exactly opposite. "Okay. But just--- don't die." I muttered bitterly and held him tighter. I didn’t want to sound too crazy or paranoid, but I just can’t calm myself. He nodded and I closed my eyes. Gabriel kept nuzzling and kissing my neck. I cleared my thoughts and went to sleep.
