MESSING WITH MAFIA'S MEN

1858 Words
The bullet hits the dashboard and it causes a fire in the car. I dragged myself in time before a great explosion. Not sure if Isabelle survived, I run away from the place. I don’t want to be in any circumstances, but if Isabelle survived, she will report about me to the Police. I need to be careful from now, but how? She saw me and she will look for me. I scratched my knees and blood is oozing. So I see a paramedical store near the filling station. I get inside and bandage my wounds. I eavesdrop unintentionally on a couple’s conversation while paying on the counter. “we came late because someone’s car exploded in the middle of the highway! People are getting careless these days!” the woman informs the cashier. “oh my god!” the cashier who is a blonde woman, gasps, “did anyone survived?” “no one was in the car at that time, not sure if someone survived or not. The Police are already there!” the lady shrugs while picking the medicine from the racks and storing new. “that’s too bad!” the cashier mumbles and counts the change before handing it to me. “Thank you!” I smile and left the clinic. One thing is sure now that Isabelle survived the explosion, but where she is now? I will take care of that later; I have to go back to the city. I need to find a job before Police finds about me! I wonder what Isabelle meant by my mother’s dark secret. I long as I know, my mother worked in a departmental store for earning and she never told me anything much about her work. But that was before her illness. She left the job and was on the bed since I started going to the college. I ask for a lift from an upcoming car and fortunately it stops near me. The tainted black window drags down and a man in expensive suits glares at me, “yes!” “Mind if I ask for a lift to the city? Actually, I am injured.” I point on my wounds. The man nods his head and opens the passenger door for me. “Thank you for helping me!” I regard him. “it’s okay, but from where did you get injured?” he asks. “Umm. I fell!” I stammer. “okay!” he remains silent for the whole ride and drops me at the bookstore. I regard him for being kind and left his car. I exhale a sigh of relive and wander in the streets looking for a job. At last, I reach at a café and read a sign of “NEED HELP!” and a big smile erupts on my lips. I get inside the café and approach the manager. “Hello! I read the sign outside. You guys need help!” I smile at the manager. “Ah! Yes, we do! Are you here to apply?” the manager overjoyed to see me. “My name is Belinda! Please fill this application!” he hands me a form and pen. “Yes! Give me a minute!” I take the form from her and fill all the required details. “Here! I filled it!” I gave the form back to Belinda. “May I know what do I have to do?” I ask curiously. “Yes, I will explain it to you!” Belinda smiles and took me inside the employee’s area. She gives me a quick tour to her beautiful café. She explained me my job which is to clean the dishes and sanitization of the kitchen. It’s not what I thought, but it’s better than nothing. Belinda leaves me in the kitchen and a girl hands me an apron. “Wear this and clean all the dishes before 4 pm!” she informs. “Okay!” I said to myself and clean all the dirty dishes in the huge sink. One after one, the waiters put other dishes in the sink to clean and now I understand why Belinda was so happy when I approached her. “Finally! It’s done!” I exhale loudly! The girl who gave me the apron approached me, “this is nothing, wait till the night!” she frowns and I scrunch my brows. “What do you mean?” I ask. “You will see!” she left the kitchen then. Belinda approaches and informs, “Okay guys! Great job! You can have a break of an hour before we reopen the café!” then she leaves. I shrug and remove my apron. The girl from earlier approaches and offers me a burger and shake, “have some burger, you must be hungry!” “Thank you!” I smile. “so you are the new girl! What do you do?” she asks. “Nothing! This is my first job!” I whisper. “Great! Saving money for college?” she asks excitedly! “No! Actually, I am earning for living!” I speak low. “oh! Is everything okay? Your family?” she concerns. “I don’t have any family!” I informed. She remains silent for a while and speaks, “I am your family! My name is Reign!” “thank you! My name is Illona!” I say. “That’s a cute name! Belinda is my aunt and my guardian. My parents died when I was younger and since then, she is taking care of me!” she said. “Lucky you!” I say and think about the recent incidents. “The late crowd is dangerous! So better try to avoid strangers. Okay?” she warns me and I smile at her! Getting back to work! The crowd is brimming in the café and everyone is busy serving the guests. My job for cleaning is too hefty. I never thought it to be, but I have nothing else to do. I was wiping the plates with a cloth when Isabelle’s words strikes my head. She was talking something about my father. I never heard a single word from my mother about my father. All I know is his name, not even his photo. Things are getting intricate and everything seems to be tangled in knots. Why all these things never strike to my head? I know my mother was a reserved person, but what she actually did with that loan? All the time, we lived in a small 1bhk house and we rarely went outside our neighborhood, until we needed to stock up groceries or other important stuff. I never knew about my mother’s relative until the day I was free from the prison. Why did she keep everything hidden? I don’t know, but I know from whom I can get all answers. The question is, how am i going to find her? Even if I find her, will she help me? That’s a terrible idea. She tried killing me once and she tried killing me twice. I have to find the pieces by myself and solve this puzzle. “Illona! Can you please take out the trash?” Reign asks me. “Yes, I will!” I step back into the reality. I drag the heavy bag from the trash bin and it stinks badly. It made me puke. From the back door, I took out the trash and throw it in the dump. I am almost done when I hear someone sobbing, so I eavesdrop. “Please, spare me! I don’t have any money! I promise I will return when I will get my paycheck!” a voice begs. “you were running away from us since a long time and we have finally caught you red-handed. Who do you think making a fool? Give me my money or I have different ways to take the debt.” I strong and dangerous voice hisses. “Please, I have kids to feed. Please, try to understand.” The voice cries and begs continuously. “I had enough of his irritating voice. Finish him or I will do it personally.” A voice threatens. I thought of peeking at the scene. Two men in suits are threatening a poor man for money. They don’t really need that money as they look much civilized at the one they are threatening. One of them takes out a knife and approaches the poor man to stab him. I gasp loudly and run to snatch the knife. “Hey!!! What are you doing?” the man yells. “Give that thing to me!” I shout while snatching the knife. “How dare you? Do you know who we are? Well, you messed with the wrong guys!” one of them threatens me. I look at the poor guy and say, “run! I will handle them!” I glare back them. One of them clutches his fist and other one pops his neck. “let us show you how you shouldn’t have messed with our business.” One of them attacks me. I dodge his attack and blow a punch on his face, which with the impact falls on his back. The other guy take out a pistol to shoot me but I throw a kick and it throws his gun at the other corner of the alley. “you! b***h!!!” he yells. “Let me tell you how not mess someone with a jail history!” I raise my voice and give an uppercut at him. He flips and falls on his face. I fight with both of them and with the help of martial arts, I knock out them easily. “I swear you will regret for this!” the man yells and I kick hard on his groin. “Try me!” I finish them off with a spinning kick. They both pass out of the concrete ground and dust off my hands before getting inside the kitchen. Belinda approaches me with an angry look at her face. “you! come with me!” I look at Reign for hint but she keeps her head low, hesitatively; I follow Belinda to her office. She gets inside and turns to look at me, “I know what you did outside!” I look at her in shock but conceal my emotion, “sorry! I did not want to fight them, but they threatened that poor guy.” “I don’t care! It was their business. They are Mafia’s men and you just landed yourself in a big trouble.” She yells. I look dumbfounded, “what?” “someone wants to meet you!” “who?” A voice calls, “Me!” I turn to look at the voice and my eyes widen to see him.
