Chapter 2

Her heart started pounding faster. She knew this scent; she liked this scent so much, but this time she knew her secret was revealed to him again. She lowered her head and didn’t dare to say a word. “Grace, where have you been again?” The pleasant, but serious, male voice just made her scared more. “Alastair, please don’t tell dad. Will you promise me you won’t tell dad?” Grace asked him in a terrified, begging voice. Alastair sighed. “Grace, please understand it’s dangerous outside. You are just a pup, and to catch you is nothing for an adult creature. There are rogues, vampires, witches, you never know what kind of danger you can put yourself in.” Alastair told Grace in a kind, but worrying tone, while he gently folded her arms around his, and he walked with her towards her room. “Grace, your dad has many problems to deal with, and he works so hard for the pack. Don’t make him worry about you, too.” Grace just lifted her head now to look at him. She liked to see his face. She did not know why, but she could stare at him for hours. He was a young beta. His father was Urquhart’s beta and friend. Alastair had just turned twenty-one, and after learning beta duties all his life, he was about to get the position next to the Alpha officially. He was a handsome young werewolf. He has got blonde hair and blue eyes. As a beta, his body was muscular. His tall figure was so attractive that Grace could never avoid staring at him. Even though he was a strong and good-looking werewolf, he was always polite. “I don’t want him to worry about me. That is why I ask you not to tell him.” Alastair smiled while he looked down at Grace. He liked her much. He was sure she would be a beautiful she-wolf when she grew up, but for now, she was a lovely pup in his eyes. “I won’t tell him about this, but then you have to promise me you’ll be obedient from now on. You are the future Alpha. You can’t act like a pup, and you can’t be harmed.” “And what if you would take me out sometimes? You are a Beta. You could take care of me,” Grace told him with hope in her voice, but Alastair's gaze turned serious instantly. “Wish I could do that, Gracie, but I’m afraid I won’t see you for a while.” Grace's eyes widened immediately, and she looked at him with many questions in her mind. “This is the part of me becoming a real beta.” He answered her, like he would have known she had a lot to ask. “I have to go to complete a mission. Lennox will come with me, and our dad will stay with Alpha.” Lennox was Alastair’s brother. He looked quite similar to him, just in a younger version. Lennox was a good and strong werewolf as well, but his perception of life was the opposite of Alastair’s. Grace's heart pounded like it wanted to jump out of her chest. “How long will you be away for?” Alastair smiled sadly. “I don’t know Gracie, I’m afraid that it will take a long time for me to come back.” “So you are leaving me, too.” She sighed sadly. Alastair frowned. “What do you mean?” Grace's eyes widened. She meant Saoirse, of course, but she could not say that out loud. She looked at Alastair with a sad smile. “I meant you and Lennox.” Alastair smiled at her. Lennox was never as close to Grace as Alastair. He thought Grace would not miss Lennox that much. “Don’t worry pup. I’ll try to make Calan be able to stay awake.” Grace did not like that answer, but she hid her feelings behind her serious look. “When do you leave?” “Tomorrow.” Grace sighed sadly. For a moment, she thought the Moon Goddess disliked her so much she made everyone leave her who she could talk to. “Take care of yourself, Alastair, and please return in one piece.” As Grace looked into his eyes, she felt an unfamiliar feeling that was pleasant and painful at the same time. She missed him already. “I will, Gracie. Just promise me you’ll be good. Okay?” Grace nodded sadly. Alastair led her to her room and opened the door for her. “I’ll see you at dinner.” Grace nodded, and she watched him walking away till he disappeared completely. Alastair felt bad about leaving her, too. He knew Calan could take care of her, but he wanted to ask him to be with her all the time. She was the only successor to Urquhart. They needed to take care of her like she was their treasure. He agreed she had to be out more often. As a young Alpha, she needed to learn how to control her power, and how to use her precious gift. And he agreed it was impossible to train inside the hill. While he walked in the corridor, he felt a weird energy around him that made him smile. He knew that well who that strange energy belonged to. “Marge, why do you follow me?” Just when he finished the sentence, a figure appeared from nothing. The witch, Marge, was a friend of Alastair. She had been next to him since he was a pup. Alastair liked Marge a lot. She always helped him when he was stuck. The only thing that he forbade her was to tell him about the future. Marge was a white witch. She could tell a lot to Alastair, of course, but if he did not want to hear that, she had no choice. There was only one thing that she wanted to know badly, but for that, she would have needed to read his palm at least, and Alastair would never have let her do that. She was a beautiful woman. She had nearly white hair and yellowish cat eyes. Her slender figure made men want to protect her, but here everyone knew she did not need protection. She was one of the three witches who lived with the Silver Moon Pack. The pack members assumed the witches aided in building their home, but the witches never confirmed nor denied it. “Why can’t I follow you?” She asked him with a smile.
