Chapter 5

Accalia POV "Come on Nova," I called for the hundredth time this morning, begging her to get her ass out of bed. Nova, who had been all too happy with our new sleeping arrangements, was lazily taking her time to get up. She had curled herself up in her self-made bed of grass and leaves. We had gone out scavenging a couple of nights ago and were lucky enough to find a small town hidden close by. The town itself was well-kept and neat... someone took great pride in building it here... The town was small, but kept the basics, like a diner, a motel, hardware- and a seven-eleven shop... The town was hidden between the forest trees and had a spectacular view of the mountains that surrounded it... The only downside of this little town was, it reeked of wolves... which was quite interesting because it wasn't part of a pack... and a lot of humans lived there. We had managed to scavenge some decent blankets, warm clothes, food, and some toiletries... "Five more minutes please," Nova said through a yawn, "I am too cozy to move..." I rolled my eyes at her, and my stomach growled. I was hungry, and we needed to hunt and find food. The food we found on our last trip out only lasted until last night, and Nova promised me that we could get up nice and early to start and find food. I sighed and walked back to where she was lying wrapped in the blankets. "If you don't get up now, I might just see you as something to eat..." I threatened with a smile and extended my claws. "Fine!" Her eyes widened, acting shocked, and let out a giggle. She knew that my next move would be to tickle her until she got up... "I don't want to get eaten by the big bad wolf this morning," she said, yawning. I helped Nova up and handed her an old shirt to get herself dressed in, then let her go to have herself cleaned up in the underground river that was running along the side of the inside of the cave. The water here was crystal clear and extremely delicious on my tongue. In certain areas, the river was shallow enough to sit and have a bath... My mind rushed back to the night. I crawled through the opening at the entrance... at one stage, I thought the tunnel would end up at a dead end and I would have to turn around. Just as I was about to give up, I found the exit and it opened into a wide area... The cave took my breath away and I couldn't believe my eyes and luck... I never expected it to be this huge... and beautiful... This place was amazing... I still couldn't find the correct words to describe how beautiful the cave was on the inside... Just a couple of feet further up, a huge waterfall poured into a bowl and then fed the river that ran past the cave... Stalagmites and stalactites were formed all over the cave in different colors... I was in awe at what I saw... Mother Moon has blessed us with a decent place to sleep... I didn't wait until morning and rushed back to get Nova. She wasn't too happy to be woken up in the middle of the night, but she listened attentively to all I had to say. She was a bit skeptical at first, but she didn't doubt my findings. When I brought her here, her face lit and I knew I hit home... we could finally be safe and warm... Nova helped me to light a torch, and the area came alive around us. "Wow!" I gasped out, it was even more spectacular in the light than in the dark. We both spent the night exploring the cave. Even though the cave was damp, we managed to find an area that was nice and dry to sleep in. Even making a fire inside wasn't such a big hassle. We have been living here peacefully for the last couple of weeks. I had made sure to cover the entrance of the cave in such a way that the chances of anyone seeing or scenting us, made it merely impossible. "All done," Nova said, breaking my haze, and headed toward the exit. Nova had become more relaxed now that we were hidden from preying eyes... The only time she would get worried and anxious was when we were out for too long... I wondered if I should ask her what it was all about, but yet again, I didn't really want to know... "Sharing is caring," Lidia mused. "Oh, shut up..." I growled at her, "you know I will return home as soon as I find him..." "And what about Nova?" Lidia asked, "are you just going to let her fend for herself?" "We might be friends, but..." I sighed, "I have no responsibility towards her... what she decides to do is her choice..." I waited for Nova to go first, then followed after. I then made sure the area was secured, and that no one would find it. "Are we going to the human town?" Nova asked and I nodded my head. On the outskirts, on the other side of the mountain, a town, bigger than the one we recently visited, lay. We had gone there a few times before to scavenge for food... even though the town reeked of humans, it was safe from any other creatures. For some unknown reason, creatures weren't very fond of staying or even living in that human town... We quickly got undressed and tied the clothes around our ankles, then shifted into our wolves. Lidia didn't wait and shot forward, enjoying being let out and feeling the wind in her fur. About five miles out, Lidia came to a stop and sniffed the air... a faint wolf scent lingered in the air, but it wasn't a normal wolf scent... there was something odd about it... Was it a Creeper or a Lycan visiting the area? I shook my head, can't be, the smell was far too different to be one of them... Whatever it was, it wasn't close enough to see us and we should have been able to get around them without being spotted... "How far do we still have to go?" Nova asked, but before I could answer, a growl shook the forest around us and I froze. "F*ck!" I growled, startled. Two unknown beasts stood about thirty feet from us... one grey, one brown, both of them looked well fed and strong... they weren't from around here... Nova whimpered and pulled her ears flat against her head, her body bent in some form of submission. Why...? "Rank wolves," Lidia said, clearing my confusion. "That will be the day!" I growled, "I would rather die than submit to them!" The grey wolf lifted his muzzle and sniffed the air, then suddenly pinned his gaze on me and scrunched his eyebrows. Why does he look so confused? "What's he thinking?" Lidia asked. "I don't know," I answered, keeping my eyes on the wolf. The grey wolf's gaze softened, and then slowly passed us, and walked toward a tree. "Where's he going?" Nova's panicked voice echoed in my mind. "He has clothing tied to his ankle," I answered, "I guess he wants to shift back and talk..." Odd, I thought, usually when wolves encounter others, especially rogues, they do not hesitate to attack... wonder what made him change his mind... "About what?" Nova asked, becoming even more anxious, "I want to leave..." "Me too, Nova, me too..." I said, but something in me told me to stay... Seconds later, a young man walked from behind the tree and took his position next to the brown wolf. Lidia lifted her muzzle, and took a whiff, "his scent is different from a normal wolf," Lidia said, "he is no Werewolf, Lycan, or Creeper..." "What is he?" I asked, getting worried. "I suspect he is some sort of half-breed... I can smell the magic that runs through his veins... strong magic..." "Shift," the man demanded, and cut Lydia's and my conversation short. "Was he talking to us?" Lidia asked, and c****d her head to the side, becoming anxious. "I guess so?" I answered, pinning my gaze on the man. He was decently built, with dark brown hair, almost black, neatly cut hair, and the coldest blue eyes I have ever seen. His dark aura was dominant and I suspect he must be some Alpha... "I am not here to harm you," he tried to reassure me, "it would be easier to communicate with you, should you shift back," he explained. Why would he want to talk to me..? It doesn't make sense... "Accalia, are you going to comply?" Nova suddenly asked, excited. "Uhm, I don't know..." I answered. "I think you should..." she urged, her eyes becoming excited. I scrunched my eyebrows together, confused at Nova's sudden mood change. Why does she want me to comply? She is usually the first one to run off and hide... I didn't argue and nodded my head. "Okay," I answered Nova. I slowly took a few steps backward, until I was out of sight. I shifted back as quickly as I could and pulled the shirt on that was way too big for my skinny ass, then walked back with my head up high. I wasn't planning to let this man intimidate me... nor will I submit to him... "What do you want?" I growled, being as hostile as possible, but instead, the man ignored it, and his eyes reflected wonder. "Nothing, we are just passing through," he said, scrunching his eyebrows together like he tried to place me. Does he know me? I can't recall that I have ever seen this man before. After I left, father sent some warriors out looking for me, and even though I had some close calls to them finding me, they never succeeded. I have always managed to get away undetected. Was he one of them who was sent by my father to find me? "Then why did I need to shift?" I asked, irritated. "Because I can smell you belong to a pack!" he answered. How does he know this? Blood drained out of me, no one outside in the open world knew that I belonged to a pack... not even Nova... I swallowed hard, seeing Nova stiffen under his words... "What is it to you?" I asked, trying to be brave, and act like it was nothing. "Oh, nothing... Just wanted to see what you look like," he said, "Guess your friend doesn't know that you are a high-rank wolf as well?" He said, taunting me. "F*ck!" he must have seen Nova's reaction... Nova whimpered, but I ignored her. I will explain this to her later. Now was not the time! I suddenly had enough of this arrogant wolf. Who does he think he is? A warning growl left my lips and made me ready to rip this wolf to shreds. I might die, but I will sure take a proper bite from him... "Wow!" The man called out, raising his hands in the air, "I mean no harm!" "Doesn't sound like it...!" I growled, and took a few steps forward, extending my claws. I was ready to attack.... ready to take all my frustrations out on him..! How dare he! "What's your name?" He asked, unconcerned about my aggressive posture. "Accalia, Calia for short, and that's Nova, my friend," I answered before I thought it through. Why does he..? "Are you from Blue Moon Pack? Are you the lost daughter of Alpha Greg and the late Luna Ralie?" He asked and pinned his gaze on me. Hearing my mother's name on his lips, sent a painful pinch through my heart, and tears started burning behind my eyes, and before I could stop them, they spilled over. How does he know about my parents..? How do I know about my pack? Who is this man? "You're Dean's sister?" He whispered. My heart sank... "Yes," I answered, and lifted my head, but excruciating pain followed seeing my brother's lifeless body lying on the classroom floor. "Please tell me that's not true," Nova mind-linked, and whimpered beside me. I ignored her and kept my attention on the man. "F*ck," he swore, and again the feeling of him knowing something was nagging in the back of my head. "Ask them who they are," Lidia urged. "And.. you are?" I asked, finding the strength to speak. "I am Liam and this is Roger," he said. "He's not informing us of their ranks," Lidia said. I ignored it, I needed to know how much he knows of me and my family. "Do you know my family?" I asked. "I knew your brother, quite well," he said, and the hole in my chest grew larger. "He was my twin and he is dead," I said, shaking, "he is the reason why I went rogue." "I know about his death, and I am sorry for your loss..." Liam hesitated for a second before he spoke again like he was having some sort of internal battle. "Tell me, when last did you speak to your father?" he asked. "Week after Dean's murder trial..." I answered. My mind suddenly raced to all the abuse and bullying I had to endure because of the trial. Liam became quiet and his posture anxious... Why did he ask the question and why was he acting like that? "Is there something the matter?" I eventually asked as I saw Liam's head snap toward the brown wolf next to him. Were they having some argument? The brown wolf snorted and shook his head. He wasn't too happy about whatever they were discussing. "Uhm..." Liam's right hand automatically went to the back of his head, scratching it nervously. "Did something happen..?" I asked, feeling every cell in my body stiffen. "Uhm..." he turned to the brown wolf next to him, hesitating... "Please...?" I begged, just tell me what you know... "Your pack was attached just after you left," Liam said, so fast that I wasn't sure if I was right. "What happened?" I asked, feeling the air being knocked out of my lungs. This can't be true. Oh Goddess, tell me this is not true! He must be lying! "Rogue attack," Liam answered, "Alpha Greg and your siblings didn't survive..." ****
