Nancy Gu pulled out a small cloth bag from the damp pocket of her school uniform, squatting down beside the boy as she slowly opened it. Inside was a row of silver needles. Mason Fu's face, usually dignified and noble, showed a hint of surprise. She can do acupuncture? Luke Bai also stared at Nancy Gu in astonishment.
"Nancy, the child's parents are not here; let's wait for the ambulance," he said. Acupuncture is not something to take lightly; if something goes wrong midway and the child doesn't make it, their parents will surely hold her responsible when they arrive.
Surrounding tourists began to advise against it. "Little girl, acupuncture isn't something you just do casually; if you accidentally harm this child, you'll be held accountable."
"I think this girl must have been dazed in the water to dare to do such a thing. If I were her parent, I'd slap her awake right now."
The cacophony around her made Nancy's frustration peak, her temples throbbing with pressure. Yet Mason Fu inexplicably trusted her decision at that moment.
"Do you need my help with anything?"
Nancy glanced at Mason Fu and then lowered her head to pull out a silver needle from the cloth bag. "Have him lie face down on your lap.
"
"Okay."
Mason followed Nancy's instructions and positioned the child on his legs. With everything ready, Nancy inserted the silver needle along the boy's neck into several acupuncture points.
However, after waiting for a while, there was still no response from the boy; perhaps due to compression in his chest, his face grew increasingly purple and pale.
"Oh no! This child might be in serious trouble!" someone shouted from the crowd.
"I warned her long ago; this girl is too stubborn. The child could have been saved if taken to the hospital sooner; now it seems he truly can't hold on any longer."
"Such thoughtlessness! Just moments ago I was moved by how she jumped into the water to save him; now I really want to call her family over for some serious education."
More and more people were making disparaging remarks around them when suddenly a group rushed over.
"Make way!"
Seven or eight people arrived, among them an elderly man surrounded by several burly men in suits. A young girl accompanied him closely.
"Grandpa! It really is A-Yu!" she exclaimed excitedly.
The old man's expression darkened immediately as disbelief washed over him. After A-Yu went missing, he had checked surveillance footage from the traffic control bureau and found that he had run toward Blue River Jiang.
When he arrived, he heard that a child had fallen into the water.
A bad feeling rose within him as he comforted himself on his way here—many tourists came recently for photos during high tide; falling into water didn’t necessarily mean it was A-Yu.
But upon seeing his grandson lying on a young man's lap with needles stuck all over him, his heart felt like it had been struck hard—pain surged through him sharply.
"A-Yu..." The old man called out hoarsely with dry eyes that quickly filled with tears as he trembled forward. His bodyguards stepped up to clear a path through the crowd automatically.
"What are you doing?" The girl yelled angrily upon seeing A-Yu covered in needles.
Nancy ignored them and continued inserting needles around the boy’s neck. Seeing this, the girl rushed forward and shoved Nancy away forcefully.
"Get away from me!"
Having soaked too long in water combined with weakness made Nancy struggle but persistently attempt to rescue that child despite feeling unwell herself. Suddenly pushed aside by the girl caused her to lose balance and fall towards the ground.
Just as her head was about to hit against its surface, a strong arm caught her just in time.
