Devon's POV
"We could have put up a fight," Tyler says and we are currently in a cell with another person who seems to be deaf.
Not because he is not reacting to anything Tyler and I are talking about, but because he genuinely seems unbothered about all the noise.
But still I don't want to take a risk. So I don't disclose any of the information even though Tyler here is losing his s**t.
"All I need to know is how James Adam got out and why I am here," I whisper but Tyler is still irritated.
He doesn't say another word as he walks to a corner and sits there, with his knees digging into his chest. I feel his pain. We are here at human land and that too in a prison. I have a mate I should return to. He has a pregnant mate that he should return to.
But we don't know how to. And just when I am about to think of ways on how to escape along with Tyler, I see Brent walk into the police station with someone else with him. A man I have never seen before and I don't think I should know about him either.
Brent's eyes landed on me first and then at Tyler. Tyler quickly caught Brent's scent and he is now standing beside me again, his eyes brimming with hope.
"We will escape however, i***t" I tell Tyler but he just shakes his head.
"You would know about this if you have a pregnant mate waiting for you," he whispers and that actually left a pang in my chest more than it should have.
I see Brent and the one who he came with, talk to the cops. And they also seem like they are in the middle of a heated argument until I saw the man's face become red. The one who came with Brent. Even though he is not that tall and strong, it is clear that he is someone the cops don't want to mess with.
He might be a lawyer. That is all that's coming to my mind at this point. Once they started talking slowly, that's when the cops started to nod and one of them is walking towards the cell in which I am in. I smirk at the cop and he smirks back at me. I don't want to stir up trouble but I want to flip the tables here before I leave.
"Mr Tyler Atkinson will be released since he has a lawyer who has all the points," the cop says while Tyler walks out leaving me behind.
Now what the f**k is this!
"Brent,!" I scream for my cousin. My long lost cousin who is talking to the lawyer totally ignoring my existence.
He eventually bids goodbye to the lawyer as he makes his way to me and I just raise my hands with a shrug as a silent question as to what is happening.
"Samika wants Tyler to come back. And she said she wanted to give you time to think," He told me and without saying another word he took Tyler and walked out, leaving me all alone in this cell with the other deaf man.
I sank back into a corner once I realised that Samika indeed left me alone. I mean, I sure as hell gave her enough reasons to do so. I killed her mother. I kidnapped her father and did not even let her know. I wonder if she ever comes to know that her father is actually a werewolf. There is so much more that's supposed to come out and I want to be there for Samika when the truth unfolds.
I grip a fistful of my hair in annoyance. I feel so helpless. I never felt this helpless in my entire life. I groan when I realised that I will probably walk out free only when Samika wants me to. I do have spies on human land but not people who have enough power to let me out.
"Stop with your irritation. It makes you stink even more," I hear my cellmate talk for the first time ever. And it just gave me goosebumps. I heard that voice somewhere. His voice seems familiar.
Where did I hear it? I take a look at his posture even though he has his back towards me. I don't recall knowing anyone with this posture. That too on human land.
But I am sure I heard his voice somewhere. It sounds familiar enough but still foreign.
"I stink?" I asked the man in hopes that he would answer again, giving me a hint on where I heard his voice.
"Yes you do, you wolf i***t" he says and my heart is now beating fast. I finally know who he is. He knows who I am as well.
Paxton's father is my cellmate.
