What had begun as a mission to find out what word on the street was by Grace, had turned to a habitual visit to the bar and waiting for the one man who now occupied her thoughts.
When Heather had asked about who her love interest had been she had preferred to keep the details to herself, not wanting to risk the probability that her boss knew the man. If she found out they had at one point slept together, that would break her heart.
His name was Derrick, she had looked him up and he had an impeccable academic history, having come from abroad where he had been getting his masters at one of the most reputable universities. He was now employed in one of the leading firms in the country with no prior experience, but from the conversations they had had,she could tell he was up to the task.
What had started as morbid curiosity about who he was,had turned into full-blown interest in the other. Tonight she had planned to flirt with him a bit not wanting to be accidentally friend zoned something that had repeatedly happened to her.
It was rare that she had such chemistry with a man and Derrick's had been God sent.
Nursing her drink, she kept looking at the door waiting for when he would come through it. They had not agreed to a specific time but the other had told her he was busy but would make a point to pass by.
She was counting down the minutes. Turning down patron after patron who tried to chat her up.
Two hours had already gone by when Derrick finally showed up and Grace had almost given up on waiting for him. It was in the middle of the week and she still had a job to report to the following morning. She felt like calling or texting him to find out if he would be showing up, but she did not want to seem like she was nagging him. He had already said he was busy. He was just passing by to see her as a courtesy. She could wait.
" Hello gorgeous, '' Derrick said while sitting on the stool beside her.
Gorgeous.
She liked that. The two hours she had been waiting seemed like nothing at all.
" Hello, '' she replied, hoping the pink tint to her cheeks was not visible to the other.
" Sorry to keep you waiting, '' he replied while ordering the same drink that she was having.
" It's okay, " she replied. All that mattered was he was finally there.
" How was work? '' she asked despite having spent some hours texting back and forth with him.
" Great actually. My boss is still introducing me to people, so I can't escape most of my engagements, " Derrick explained.
" How are you liking it so far? '' she asked.
'' Great. I found something that has made it even more worthwhile to stay, '' he replied, and she coudn't help but smile even more. That must have been about her, she thought.
