“No! Leave me alone!” Hedda screamed as she slammed the door, locking it and looking around the corridor. She stepped toward one of the statues of herself that was standing on a pedestal nearby and pushed it with all her might. The marble tilted, falling in front of the door. The hands broke and a small part of the head chipped, but the rest remained intact to block the path. Something heavy slammed against the door and a low growl echoed from the other side. Hedda took a step back, panting heavily as her heartbeat drummed in her ears. “I didn’t do it! It didn’t use my powers! Leave me alone!” Another slam followed the first, and the hinges of the door screeched mournfully. Hedda lifted the skirts of her dress, kicking her heels off and sprinting down the corridor.
