Harley
Archer opened the door for us, extending his arm I smiled and stepped inside the most luxurious house I had ever been in. My eyes flitted in all directions as Leah stepped in behind me pushing me further into the room. "Wow!" She gasped as I felt her still beside me. "Kudos to the interior designer" she complimented.
She wasn't wrong, the decor was very homely and welcoming. Archer went ahead leading the way down a small set of steps, I followed as I continued to look around at the oak beams lining the ivory walls. I had never been in a house like this before, there were vases of beautifully colored flowers and portraits of really old people, but still, it had quite a modern touch with the black leather couches and chairs surrounding a black glass coffee table.
"I'll pass on your compliment to Red, he's got quite the knack for interior design he's done the whole house" Archer replied to her as he walked ahead. Everywhere I looked there were more doors I knew for sure I was going to get lost in this place.
"Red did all of this?" I asked in astonishment, never in my life had I met a man with such an eye for detail. I knew for sure I would never trust my father or any man in my life with such a task. We walked through the farthest door which took us through an open hallway lined with leaded windows.
As we walked through I laid my eyes on a perfect flower garden then I noticed some people outside laughing together as they tended to one of the flower beds.
Archer stopped and turned to us giving me a little more time to look over the different flowers. "He did, yes, the room we just passed through is the waiting room when we have guests visiting us from outside the pack. Most of my pack who visit tend to go straight through to the social rooms and hang out there until they've had enough." he smiled. He then looked around at the windows surrounding us, "this walkway was designed by my mother she was a keen gardener and loved seeing the flowers every day" I looked up at him as he stood looking out of the window, I never knew he had a mother. Obviously, he had a mother, but I had never heard anything about her, was she still alive and living here with Archer?
"I had the fountains and pond built in also, she loved sitting out there," Loved? he was using the past tense, maybe she was no longer here, I didn't ask as I didn't want to put my foot in it on the first day of being here. "Come, I'll show you the way upstairs," he said in a deeper stern tone as he closed his eyes tightly and turned away from the window like the scene was hurting his eyes, he turned on his heel and began walking away not waiting for us. I looked at Lee to see if she picked up on his change of mood, and I'm sure she noticed it too by the way she widened her eyes.
We walked at a quick pace to catch him up, I didn't get much of a chance to have a good luck around before he began making his way up a grande oak staircase. "We are on the fifth floor, I've had a room set up for Leah on the fourth floor so you don't have far to walk to see her while she is here."
"Thankyou, I don't want to cause any trouble for you during my visit" Lee spoke breathlessly behind me as we began climbing the endless staircase.
"It's no trouble, I want Harley to feel at home here, it's good to have you around to help her transition." we turned and began up another set of stairs. "So the first floor is mainly for staff, the second and third floor is normally reserved for guests visiting from outside of the pack and the fourth is for my Beta and gamma and their families and also Leah this weekend. Then the fifth is mine, well, ours now, it is out of bounds to anyone that doesn't have permission to be there, as is the fourth floor, but everyone is aware of your presence this weekend Leah, so don't worry you won't be tackled to the ground the moment you step on the fourth floor." he looked back and smiled to reassure her.
"Thankyou" she breathed from behind me.
I placed a hand on my stomach as Lee and Archer continued their conversation. I felt a knot in the pit of my stomach hearing him describe the fifth floor as 'ours' I had never shared anything with a man before let alone live with them. I knew it was to late to run now, I had promised my father I would do this, so I took a deep breath and continued to climb the steps behind Archer.
"So do I call you Alpha like everyone else around here," Lee asked.
"Whilst we are in these walls Archer is fine, but you must address me as Alpha outside, my pack will see it as a sign of disrespect if you don't. The only one with the authority to call me by my given name will be Harley and my Beta."
"I thought so, I just wanted to make sure, I don't want to disrespect anyone that's why I asked, you must be so busy around here how do you have time to yourself? I couldn't imagine being in charge of so many people and having to do all this alone"
"Outside of the fifth floor, I dedicate my life to each and every person here, the fifth floor is the only peace and quiet I get, so I like to keep it private" I remained quiet as we finally reached the fourth floor. Trying my best I ignored the pain in my legs but it took the attention away from the knot in my stomach. We followed Archer to the first door. "This is your room" He looked at Lee, "I have instructed the staff this room is to remain yours so will be kept vacant for anytime you wish to visit."
"Wow!" she gasped as she stepped into the room. It was so bright with large windows lining the back wall. Her case was already on the four-poster bed waiting for her which I thought was quite impressive. "Wow, how did my case get here so quickly, I never saw Red on the stairs," she asked looking back at Archer with a confused expression on her face.
"There is another set of stairs the staff tends to use more often, he is very swift with his work" he answered her as I looked around the room, They had made sure she had everything in here,
"I'll leave you to unpack whilst I show Harley upstairs" he began walking out of the room, I looked at Lee not knowing if she was going to feel comfortable being left alone here but she didn't give me a second glance. She began walking away to look out of her window. "You ready?" Archer asked.
We left Lee and began on the stairs once again, this time it was only a short distance until we got to a small open space with one door in front of us. Archer opened it then stepped back letting me walk inside first. I was flabbergasted at the sheer size, our room was the whole of the top floor, I stepped inside on the plush cream shag carpet, the first thing that caught my eye was the size of the bed, I bet you could fit at least ten people in that thing. It didn't look like a typical male's bedroom it was tidy and well-kept. Something told me Red cleaned this room for him.
"All of your things are here" he pointed to a pile of boxes and bags that had been piled in the corner of the room. "I'll let you get them all put away, I don't like clutter," he said in an off tone.
"Wow, I seemed to have left the nice Archer on the fourth floor with Lee, maybe we should have her move up here with us he might reappear then" I said sarcastically.
"I'm just saying, it's a mess, I don't like mess"
"Did I put them there, no!" I snapped back.
"Just get them sorted, quickly" he turned and walked back to the door.
"Yeah, that's fine" I gave in looking around the room once again, he had everything he needed in here it was like a little apartment. He had a small kitchen area at one end of the room. I could see another room that looked like a bathroom I could just about make out the tiled floor through the gap in the door. A little lounge area with a black velvet couch and a large tv. the other side was mainly closet space a desk and a few other things but one thing was missing, surely he was going to put another bed in here, or was he expecting me to sleep on the floor? "Where am I sleeping?"
He stopped and looked at me and then in the direction of the bed, "What, the bed isn't big enough for you?"
"So you will be on the floor then, well at least the carpet looks comfy...."
Archer laughed, "An Alpha doesn't sleep on the floor for anybody, sorry princess"
I closed my eyes and shook my head "Why am I not surprised" I whispered to myself. But the truth was, I wasn't as angry as I thought I was going to be.
"I'll get Red to show you around, I have some work to be getting on with this afternoon. We have people coming a little later for your dress fitting and I'll go through tomorrow's itinerary with you over dinner."
"Fine, but, there's one thing I would like to ask of you" I cut him off before he barked any more orders.
"What?"
"I want to see the plans you have for my territory, I need to know this isn't some scam so you can overrun it with your Lycans. I have no idea if you have been taking my father for a fool all this time" I spoke sternly with my arms folded across my chest. Even if he was lying I wasn't exactly in a place where I could just leave, he would have me tracked down the minute he knew I had left.
"That's fine. I expected you would want to see some kind of evidence. I made you your own copy of my plans I will have them brought up to you, but they are not to leave this room. I can't take the chance of having my plans leaked"
"Thankyou" I was pleased he wasn't fighting me on this, we looked at each other for a moment in silence, I still couldn't understand what it was about the way he looked at me that made me feel strange deep inside. But the moment I began feeling it he turned and walked out of the room.
