Lucifer
“ Fu*k,” I cursed loudly, running my fingers through my hair. Dam* It is going to be really difficult to focus on anything right now.
For now all I want to do is to go inside my f*cking room, stripped naked and joined her on my bed. I want to hug her till she falls asleep. I want to feel safe and let her know that she can rely on me.
I tapped on the table before I clicked on the calling button on the laptop. I decided to facetime with Austin and let him know the situation here. Our ancestors would have laughed their hearts out if they saw us working together. A lycan and a vampire, I shook my head and waited for him to pick up the da*n call.
“ What?” Austin barked as soon as he picked up the call. He was looking irritated. And I knew exactly why.
“ Did I interrupt?” I asked, smirking at him. He gritted his teeths glaring at me. I could see the work of art his mate had shown on his neck as he was sitting there shirtless and probably….. I shook my head to clear my thoughts before it wandered far.
“ I assume you know the answer very well,” he said.
“ Is everything ok?” Lucy said, her voice was still the same as it was. Sweet and calming.
“ No,” I said with a sigh.
“ This is exactly why I called so late,” I said, not knowing from where I should start.
I began to tell them everything and what happened at the club.
“ Wait! What?” Lucy said she was surprised.
“ Your mate is with you? Like right now?” She asked, coming into the view.
“ Why haven't you informed us? You should have told us before meeting her so that we could have been there,” she said.
“ so, is she alright? I mean, did she accept you?” She asked, again.
“ Babe let him answer one question at a time,” Austin said. Looking at me she smiled only and didn't say a word as she waited for my answers patiently.
“ She is doing fine but I think she is traumatised by what she saw back there,” I replied.
“ I have a doubt that she is going to accept me,” I said with a sigh.
“ Don't say that,” Lucy said.
“ All I can do is to wait for the morning,” I replied.
“ Now, my main concern is for Ivan,” I said.
“ It is still hard for me to believe that he was up to this. I should have been more careful when….. he trailed off looking at the surface of the table.
“ what? What was happening there in my absence. Fill me in and I want nothing but the bare truth,” I said, furrowing my brows. I have missed so much about my Kingdom since I came here. I initially thought of handing over the Kingdom to Ivan but he refused my offer back then and only agreed to look after my people till I go back, which I don't have any interest in doing.
Austin filled me with everything about Ivan, how he was missing after two months of my return and how anonymous attacks were happening in my Kingdom. I couldn't feel more enraged than I am feeling at the moment.
“ I have been careless, Austin,” I said, leaning back on the chair.
“ What should we do now?” Lucy asked, her voice was filled with fear and concern.
“ He knows about your mate and definitely will come for her if you don't give up the throne,” she added.
“ I don't know, my mind stopped working when my mate called me a monster,” I replied at the verge of losing my mind. The scenes of the club were continuously playing at the back of my mind.
“ Lucifer,” she said, bringing me out of my thoughts.
“ You could bring her here. We could protect her well this way. And also you won't be able to do both you know, protect her and fight him off,” she offered.
“ Thank you, Lucy,” I thanked her, grateful for her kindness.
“ but I am still unaware of what the morning sun would bring me,” I added.
“ But I still appreciate your kindness and concern. I will try my utmost to protect what is precious to me this time.”
She didn't say anything and only nodded her head while a sad smile was playing on her lips.
“ I can keep an eye on Ivan meanwhile and I will inform you if I find anything,” Austin said, nodding my head in agreement, an image flashed before my eyes from the club
“ Austin, do you think that there would be more people left from his family other than Ivan?” I asked.
“ I am not sure, why?”
“ I don't know but I really have a bad feeling about this,” I replied.
“ Well, we can't really know as he was one of the first vampires and has been alive for centuries now. But I have never heard anything about his family and he didn't even mention any,” he said.
“ Do me a favour, Austin. Dig out his background and anything that you could find that would prove that he is alone,” I said.
“ Ok,”
Nodding my head, I hung up the call before leaning back on my chair. I looked up at the ceiling as something soothing washed over me. I didn't know what it was but it made my nerves calm. Maybe because my mate is sleeping on my bed.
I knew she fell asleep a long time ago when I was talking to them. The urge to look at her sleeping face overpowered my control and I found myself on my feets and walking towards my room.
I held the knob in my hand and drew a sharp intake of breath before I turned the knob and swung the door open softly. I didn't want to wake her up. She needs rest right now after the turmoil she has been through.
“ Magnificent,” I whispered.
Even from here I could see her crystal clear because of the powers that I possess.
I was mesmerised by only looking at her. She looked nothing less than a Picasso lying on the black sheet as her body looked like a pearl that just came out of the shell and was shining brightly under the moonlight.
I gingerly walked to my bed and looked down at her face. She is an angel but that furrow on her forehead isn't suiting her. Sitting down beside her, I moved the strands of hair that fell on her face behind her ears before soothing the lines between her brows until she relaxed.
The guilt I was feeling wasn't going away any time soon for endangering her life like that. I sat there, staring at her face for a long time when I knew that I only have a few hours till the sun comes up.
I still haven't any clue of what I would say to her to make her understand and to make her stay but all I knew was that I am not going to lie to her.
Leaning towards her, I placed my lips on her forehead.
Standing up, I sighed before I walked back into my office, not before looking at her for one more time.
