Ryan POV:
I sat behind my mahogany desk, trying to focus on the papers in front of me, but instead of focusing on prosecuting a serial stalker, all I could think about was Elena. She was different. The Elena I knew wouldn't leave the house looking like a mess, this Elena didn't care and I liked that.
The black telephone in my office rang, and I answered. "Hello, Ryan Jacobs speaking." "Derek, it's nice to hear from you after so long." I closed the vanilla folder and leaned back into my office chair. "Yes, actually I've had the pleasure to see her," I said, I listened to him, my jaw dropping, Elena was divorced. "Are you sure?" I asked, remembering her telling me her husband was just busy with work. "Thanks for letting me know, is there another reason that you called?" I asked, and I heard Derek stumble for his words. After a bit of small talk, we said our good byes and hung up.
I sighed. It seems Elena hasn't changed completely, she still cares what everyone else thinks. I closed my eyes, briefly remembering...
~~~
"Hi, Mam. Is Elena here by any chance?" I asked, standing in front of her door. The older woman, who's blonde hair was tucked into a sleek bun, was dressed in a burgundy pencil skirt with a white blouse, her ears and neck decorated with pearls. "Who are you?" She asked, her eye brows raised in irritation, "I'm Ryan, Ryan Jacobs!" I said extending my hand, which she looked down on, in disgust. "What do you want with my daughter Ryan?" She asked sternly and unimpressed, "we went to school together and I wanted to ask if she would go out with me," I said, her mother looked at me with cold blue eyes and laughed. "Ryan, let me give you some advice, women like my daughter would never be with someone of your status. It simply can't happen." She narrowed her eyes, judging every piece of me under her scrutinous stare. I opened my mouth to speak, but couldn't find the words. "By the way," she said, grabbing on to the door, "Elena is getting married, and she's already moved in with her husband." Then she slammed the door in my face.
~~~
I sighed, remembering, that was painful. I placed the folder into my briefcase and got up, when my assistant entered. "Sir, are you leaving?" She asked, and I nodded. "I'm probably going to work from home, you can too." She gave me a grateful smile, "thank you sir, the New York office called," she announced, "yes," I said waiting for her to finish her sentence. "The serial stalker..." she swallowed nervously, "he made bail." "What!?" I snapped, "when?" She looked fearful, "this morning," she was wringing her hands together, "what are the details of his bail?" I brushed back my hair, defeated. "He isn't allowed to leave New York, he isn't allowed-" I cut her off, "good enough for me. Email me the forms, who paid bail, everything. This guy needs to go away for a long time!" I squeezed my brief case tighter in my hands. Her face grew determined and she nodded profusely, "on it!"
Elena POV:
Mason was asleep, so that meant that I could eat in piece and binge some shows without feeling guilty. I had my feet propped on the coffee table, while I enjoyed the chicken ala king pasta. Ryan was right. It was delicious. Ryan... It was difficult to stop thinking about him, but everytime I did. I felt guilty. Don't get involved in this Elena, I'd tell myself. Caleb is going to realize any moment what you and Mason mean to him and then he's going to come back, and we're going to be a family. I sighed as I felt the heaviness of my reality set in, I grabbed my phone and opened my chat with Caleb. He still hadn't responded to my ten messages or videos of Mason. Don't do it. I started typing a paragraph to him...
Unknown POV:
I watched her sitting on the couch. Her legs propped on the coffee table as she texted without a care in the world. I brought the camera up to my eye and snapped some pictures. She was beautiful, but her looks were just a bonus. I watched as Ryan's car started towards us, and I silently stepped behind thick pine, my camera now focused on him. He got out, looked around and walked up to the door, a smile spreading across my face.
