My face fell, and I immediately sat up behind Ggray, removing the band that was tied around my hand.
"Go on?"
"I think you should just watch the news, sir."
Gray let out a sigh and slowly dropped the phone, then turned to me. "Give me a minute."
"I will come with you," I said immediately and got out of bed right after him.
He held my hand as we took the stairs, and more than twice, I caught myself going faster than he was. He was a lot more composed than I was, and once we got to the massive sitting room that no one ever used, I turned on the TV.
It was touch sensitive, and I quickly navigated to the news channel. I took a step back as it came on, and a picture of Gray was plastered right there on the news.
I hated myself for getting so distracted, but he was devilishly handsome in that photo. It was black and white, his hair falling on front of his left eye, a small smirk on his lips, his eyes dark.
I blinked and shook my head, trying my best to focus on what they were saying. Suddenly, the picture was gone, and it panned to what seemed like a press conference.
Sylvia was at the very head of the press conference, in tears. She was wearing an off the shoulder black dress that showed some very exaggerated burn marks, and she was crying into a napkin.
"Are you saying the CEO of Gray Group has refused to take responsibility for his child? Why have you only come out now?"
She sniffed before taking the mic. "I was trying to protect my child. I understand that he is married now, but I do not want my child to grow up having to look for a father. He is already beginning to know that something is wrong, and I just... can't."
I turned to Gray, my eyes wide with worry. The heavens hadn't answered my prayers from last night, and one of my nightmares was unfolding right in front of me. I was standing right there, watching them ruin Gray's name.
Gray said nothing as he turned off the TV, then let out a sigh.
"I need to go."
"I am coming with you," I said immediately, reaching for his hand. "Whatever happens, i want to be there."
He held my eyes for a while before he kissed my forehead, his face lingering against mine for a while longer.
"You give me such strength."
I swallowed, nodding as I met his eyes again. "What are we going to do? I know a scandal like this will affect your company and your name. She wants to ruin you, Gray."
"I will ruin her first," he said simply, then held my hand and led me up.
His phone was ringing off the hook, but he didn't even look at it as he immediately walked to the bathroom. I stood there for a while, tapping my feet against the mahogany floor, my chest heaving.
I walked towards the walk-in closet and brought out a beautiful dark brown suit. I had never seen him in any colours, and I had even believed he didn't have any. But this colour would look magnificent against his beautiful skin, and I put it out for him and searched for a dress.
I found a black dress with a deep but modest neckline, a few accessories to go, and shoes. I quickly put them out, too, so when Gray came to the closet, he would see them.
I then quickly went to the next room to take a bath. My mind was occupied throughout the bath, my chest tightening as I wondered what Gray would have to go through to fix things and make them right again.
How was he going to explain the complicated relationship to the public? I doubt they would just agree that he does not want anything to do with his child. It would immediately make him a deadbeat father, and he would face backlash.
I got out of the shower and dried off, then wore the dress I had picked out, the long necklace that accentuated the deep neckline, a simple pair of earrings, shoes, and then put my hair up in a ponytail.
I walked back to the room and turned the doorknob when Gray's voice came. He was on a phone call.
"I want the videos sent to my phone and to every media house in the city. I want them all in front of the office. I will be on my way right now. Prganize a shareholder's meeting and send a memo to the board of directors."
"But sir," came the other voice. "Are you going to be okay with coming out to the public with that information? I mean, you are now married and..."
"I know," Gray replied, hie voice low. "But exactly that. I am now married. The only person I want to protect is her. Everyone can come down with me."
The other person went silent, and the call went off. I closed my mouth as I moved away from the door, my eyes closing as tears slowly ran down my cheeks.
What if it was some sort of damning truth? What if I had done something very stupid last night by not believing him? What if...
"This is Gray," came his voice again.
"Yes, sir. I was going to ask if you would still sign the resorts over to Mrs. Gray Gavin today, as you had said."
"Yes," he replied promptly. "Meet me in my office in three hours."
I bit down on my lips, then slowly opened the door. Gray was dressed in the dark brow suit I had picked out for him, and he was fixing up the buttons of his shirt.
"Let me help you," I whispered as I walked in, and he let me, his eyes focused on me.
I put the buttons in, then started to turn away when he held my hand back.
"Angeline."
I turned to him, my eyes wide. "Yes?"
"Promise me. Promise me that you would remember last night. That you would think about me."
"Always."
