Words Against Actions

The drive to the head office was silent, with Gray holding on to my hand through it. His phone kept ringing, but he never picked up, ignoring everything. I closed my eyes and said a silent prayer as we started to get closer to the office. I remember the first time I had come here, carrying that lunch box I had brought with me, my heart thumping hard in anticipation of his reaction. I bit down on my lips and turned to him, but he was already looking at me, his eyes taking me in like I was some sort of exotic wine that he was seeing for the first time. "You need a big smile for reassurance?" I asked, trying my hardest to make light of the trouble that loomed above us. Before he could respond, I proceeded to give him the biggest smile I could muster. He watched me, his eyes softening a little, his lips slightly curled up. "You look beautiful." My smile faltered a little, my heart fluttering. He looked so sincere that the amount of insecurities that Kevin's betrayal had already heaped on me could not stand a chance and make me second guess myself now. "Th... thank you. I mean, for accepting your gift." He broke into a laugh as his fingers tightened against mine and he turned away, the morning sun shining in his eyes and his parted lips, the beautiful smile I now knew was exclusively for me, and the dark strands of his hair. He was even more beautiful and effortless at that. I sighed, then brought his hand to my lips and placed a gentle kiss close to his knuckles. He smiled at me again, then nodded, biting down on his lips. "We will come out of this unscathed." I nodded. "You better. Or, I.. I will go feral and attack everyone who dared to even lay a hand on you. I will burn that stupid ring shop, I will burn every media house, I will..." He suddenly kissed me, his hand cupping my neck, his breaths hot against my lips. I sighed into the kiss, his taste filling me and tainting my soul a bright red. "You talk too much." I bit down on my lips. "What would you prefer I do?" "Prefer? I will listen if you talk for days straight. There is nothing about you that I would change." I looked up to his eyes as we got to the office. The media were crowded around the entrance, but Gray did not move or remove his hand from my face, his eyes darting across both of mine. "You know exactly how to make a woman fall for you, huh?" He laughed, leaning to my ear. "We will talk about your choice of words later, princess." A blush rose up my cheeks, and I immediately turned away, my heart going on a dangerous ride, one that would ensure we crashed, but the high would be worth the pain. The thrill will be worth the trauma. The car came to a stop with media people hounding us from every corner. Gray's guards split them up, however, pulling them away from the car so we could come down. Gray held my hand tight and helped me down, his hand wrapping around me as he walked the path that had been carved out by his guards. They were throwing questions at him, but he was not responding to any of them, as he walked towards the main entrance. We soon entered the main office space, and the workers immediately stood up to pay respects. Gray did not stop to reply to anything as he led me away towards the large press conference room. He stopped by the door, his eyes cold. I held his hand tight still, prepared to give him a hug if he needed it. He turned to me, then sighed as a guard came up. "They are inside, sir." He nodded. "Escort her in after me." The guard nodded as Gray turned to me. "Make sure to stay where I can see you." I nodded readily, and he turned away. The large doube doors opened, and I heard the room quieten down, the sound of Gray's shoes on the floors, the only sound that reverberated through the entire place. I held my breath, my chest heaving hard. "Let's go in, ma'am." I nodded, then walked in, going the opposite away from the podium Gray had walked up on. He was standing behind a mic now, his eyes cold, his presence commanding. Hisveyes flickered to me, and they immediately softened before he turned away, his head slowly lifting. "It had been brought to my attention, allegations laod against me by Sylvia Hastings, the mother of a child I never wanted." "What do you have to say about this?" A female reporter yelled, and Gray raised a brow. "I intend to show. It will be her actions against her own words, as my words have grown beyond having to refute petty allegations like these." He moved a little, as the large projector screen behind him came on, showing a video. It looked like a bar, and Gray was sitting on a bar stool, watching something. Soon enough, he stood up, then walked towards the stairs, and took the stairs towards the smaller rooms in the bar meant for more activities that went beyond the steamy dancing. He seemed a little drunk as his movement was a little staggered, and soon enough, Samantha came in, helping him. They went into a room, but there was no camera in it. Just sounds like what we all knew. Gray met my eyes, and I bit down on my lips, trying my hardest not to show just how f*****g jealous I was. It took an hour, and Samantha was shown again on the hallways camera as she came out, then Sylvia, too, from the other room. Samantha handed something over, then closed the door and leaned on it. "Are you sure that would work? I had to endure a whole night when Kevin is just down there and..." "You are the one who wants a child to secure your assets and make sure he won't leave you with nothing. I also told you not to drug him or he would become suspicious." "Well, sue me for wantong to go f**k my actual man." "You don't even deserve him, Samantha. Why don't you just..." "He is f*****g loaded! You want to go back to the slums? You want to go back to kaying men just to steal fake jewellery and afford fast food?" "I will do it," Sylvia said. "You will need to come in tomorrow so we can put it in you. Condoms fail. That is the only explanation you are allowed to give him." "Fine. Keep it safe." "Where are you going?" "To Kevin. Do you want to f*****g wake him up?" Sylvia sighed. "Be careful." "Well, no shit." She walked away, leaving the room Gray was in and down towards another room to the end. I watched her knock on it, and Kevin came out. She immediately kissed him, and they disappeared behind the doors again. The video came to an end, and I met Gray's eyes. My heart ached for him, and I couldn't bring myself to even look at him because of the immense hatred I felt for myself. The questions started to pour in, too, but Gray never moved or took his eyes off me. He stayed there, watching me for a long minute, like he was trying to make sure I was okay with what I had just seen. My eyes closed as tears ran down my cheeks, and I squatted to the floor, my body shaking hard, my teeth gritted. So Sylvia had betrayed Samantha and, without Gray'a consent, got herself pregnant using his sperm through IVF. Hence, the probable fallout between the sisters and Samantha going off the rails and them coming back like a deranged woman. And without knowing better, yesterday, I had taken her side, coming between us and thinking the very worst of him. I looked up again, and he was watching me still. It was all I needed to push myself up and run up the short flight of stairs towards him. He moved away from the mic as I ran straight into his arms, my hair falling across his shoulders, my chest heaving hard. My hands tightened around him, my tears running down my cheek hard and fast, my body lightly shaking. He was warm, holding me tight, too, his face buried in my neck. I could hear the sound of cameras clicking, questions, all of that ruckus. But above all, I could hear his heartbeat against mine, syncing into a tune. He said nothing and just held me there, the world stopping against us, everyone else falling away like they were never there.
