Gray slowly covered the distance, and I laid back down, my head gently hitting the pillow, my eyes blinking up to him.
He slowly leaned to me as he squatted to my height, his eyes taking me in, a small smile lifting his lips. His eyes were still as dark as the clouds before rain, but it was different. This was happy rain. The sort of rain that brought flowers. Harvest. Beauty. Greenery. It was the sort of rain that was in love with me.
"You look beautiful saying all of those things. Angeline."
I swallowed, my eyes holding his. "Is it working? Are you convinced?"
He nodded, and I immediately moved in, tapping the side of the bed so he could take it.
He gently lay beside me, my eyes closing as his scent filled me up, immediately calming me.
His hands snaked up my stomach, and he pulled me back till there was no space between in and I could feel his heartbeat against my back.
"I like this," he said in a whisper, and I chuckled, a small breath escaping me.
"Every night, then?"
He nodded slowly. "Is that a date?"
A blush rose up my cheeks. "If that is what you want."
"Date it is, then."
I smiled, just as he slowly leaned into my neck. His lips brushed the sensitive skin, and Icbeard him suck in a sharp breath, his fingers tightening around me.
He let out a shaky breath and pulled me even closer to him, his face nuzzled into my neck.
"I love you. Evangeline Gray Gavin."
I laughed, pushing my hands into his hair. "It is just us here. "
"I know. It doesn't change that you are my woman. Public or private."
I smiled, leaning closer to him. "I guess you are right."
"I know I am," he said, kissing my forehead lightly. "I love you. I am sure of that, too."
"You better be," I said, massaging his scalp lightly. "I intend to act like the woman you love."
"So... no change at all?"
I broke into a laugh, and he sighed against my neck. "You are such a sweet talker."
"For you," he murmured a little sleepily. "For you. Angeline."
I didn't reply, my hands still moving against his scalp, but I believed him. On my life.
