I never knew I could smile the way I did as he looked at me, but I felt that smile down to the very core of my soul, my body lighting up. He gently ran a thumb on my cheek, a small laugh escaping him.
"You have a beautiful smile."
My cheeks reddened, and he smiled before pulling away. He opened the door and stepped out, and I watched him come to the door and slowly open it up.
He gave me his hand, and I took it, then got out of the car, adjusting his shirt around me.
"Come here," he said, before leaning to take me in his arms again, his eyes meeting mine.
They were soft and tender, and my heart skipped a beat, my chest heaving.
He turned and walked towards the mansion, his eyes leaving mine finally.
"You are back, sir," the guard said before opening the door and ushering us in.
He didn't bother to reply to him, and he walked forward, his hand tightening around me as we entered the massive sitting room.
I had almost forgotten just how massive this place was, and it was such a waste that it felt so hollow. It's so empty.
"Gray?" Aunt Althea suddenly said, and Gray turned towards the dining room.
Aunt Althea, Samantha, and Aunt Maureen were having lunch, and Aunt Althea immediately left her food to come down to us.
"God. Gray. I kept calling you in order to make sure you were fine. You just suddenly left and..."
"I am fine," Gray said, and I met his eyes. Yeah, he was back. The Gray I was scared of was here, and the one who made my heart flutter was hidden away again, probably ready to come make my heart skip a beat once we were alone again.
"You keep enabling his tantrums, Althea. He is in his late twenties. He knows better than to..."
"You should know better than to run your mouth in house, Maureen. I am tapping into the last bit of kindness I have in me in order to let you live in this house."
Everyone went silent, and Samantha slowly came forward. "Gray, I..."
"I have a little announcement to make at dinner. It is important because someone amongst us is going to jail very f*****g soon amd I will need all of you to prepare."
My eyes widened, but I couldn't see what the others thought, because he walked away, forcing me to not care what they felt about it, the same way he obviously didn't.
