My back hit the wall, and I brought my hands to cover my face, my chest heaving. Tears filled my eyes fast, and I struggled to breathe. I don't know which hurt more. The fact that she had no real reason to screw me over like that, the fact that she was so happy about what she had done to me, or the fact that I had been gullible enough to play into her trap.
The fact that they hadn't even bribed her or anything, It f*****g hurt. Like she just needed to be asked to ruin me, and she would do it in a heartbeat.
"Angeline..."
I looked up, and Gray was looking down at me, his eyes tender. Slowly, he cupped my face, and his thumb ran along my face, wiping the tears away.
"I am sorry, I was just so..."
"What are you sorry for?" He asked, gently flicking my cheek. "You have been nothing but incredible."
I held his gaze, then slowly shook my head. "It hurts. It hurts so bad."
"I know," he whispered before pulling me into his embrace, his chest broad and warm, his heart so alive that it immediately synced mine.
I closed my eyes against his scent and let out a sigh, my chest heaving.
"For now, just stay right here and pretend it doesn't."
I nodded obediently, wrapping my hands loosely around his waist.
"Good girl," he whispered against my neck, and even through my sadness, I felt the tremors right to the very depths of my soul.
