"Only one person can accompany us, Ma'am. Please just follow along," the paramedic restrained me as I attempted to follow Mommy into the ambulance.
I saw fear in Mommy's eyes. "No! My daughter is coming with me!" she exclaimed hysterically.
I approached her and tightly held her trembling hands. "Mom, I'll follow, you just go ahead. Please, calm down. Dad is going to be fine."
"I-I'm scared, Sammie," she said tearfully.
"Ma'am, we need to go."
I gently touched Mommy's cheek before letting go. I took a glance at my father lying there before leaving. I watched the ambulance drive away.
"Sam..."
I swallowed hard and clenched my cold hands together before facing the man I never expected to see again, especially not in this situation.
His blue eyes met mine, filled with compassion and concern.
"You forgot these," he said, holding both our bags, mine and Mommy's.
I took them and nodded at him. "T-Thank you..." I took a deep breath and forced a smile. "...for your help."
He was about to say something, but I quickly turned to hail a passing taxi, only to find my arm held by his warm hand.
"W-What?"
"I'll take you to the hospital. I have someone who drives for me--"
I shook my head. "No, thanks for your offer but I can manage," I interrupted him with a forced smile.
Before he could speak again, I waved down a taxi, but unfortunately, it was already occupied. The same happened with the next one. I looked at Pisces who was watching me.
"Sam, your mother is waiting for you. Let's go," he said, turning away and heading towards a black sedan near the hotel entrance.
I closed my eyes briefly and, though I didn't want to spend much time with him, I had no choice but to follow him.
Seeing him get into the back seat, I opened the front door but clumsily closed it again when our eyes met—Johnson, his personal secretary, was there. I had taken too long already, so I quickly got into the back seat just as another taxi passed by.
"Where are we going, Ma'am?" the driver asked, and I quickly instructed him to take us to the hospital where Daddy would be admitted.
"Nice seeing you again, Samantha," Johnson said, smiling as I glanced at him.
I forced back a smile. I felt restless where I sat. I felt confined, so I shifted uncomfortably.
"I-I'm sorry about your father. I'm hoping for his recovery," Pisces broke the silence as the car started moving.
I nodded without speaking, taking out my phone and dialing my brother's number.
"K-Kuya," I greeted him with tears in my eyes.
As much as I hate my father, I couldn't help but fear what might happen to him.
"Sammie? What's wrong?"
I took a deep breath and bit my lip. "D-Daddy, he's on the way to the hospital. Mommy is with him. I think he suffered a heart attack!"
"Damn it! I'll be right there. Take care of Mommy, Sammie."
"Please hurry, Kuya."
After ending the call, Marcus immediately called me back. I answered, but my eyes widened when I heard Aegeus's small voice at the other end.
"Mommy!"
I turned to Pisces, who was looking at me. His forehead furrowed, probably puzzled by the shock on my face.
He didn't hear, right?
Shaking, I lowered the volume of my phone. We were inches apart, so he probably hadn't heard it.
I cleared my throat. "Baby, I'll call you later."
I quickly ended the call, knowing my child would cry, but I was sure Marcus would handle it.
"Baby, huh?"
I glanced at Pisces, who was teasing me with his question.
"So, you're in a relationship now?" his tone was casual, not teasing, but his gaze was steady on me.
I met Pisces's gaze head-on. He's nothing to me. Why am I letting his presence affect me?
"I think it's no longer your business, Mister Hammington."
"It is my business," he emphasized the last word.
I shot him a defiant look. "You're a stranger to me. What makes you think my current relationship is any of your business?"
"Because--"
I didn't let him finish as the car came to a stop. Glancing out, I realized we were at the hospital. I was being rude, and I owed him my gratitude for helping me, but I quickly got out of the car without looking back and rushed into the emergency room.
My heart was pounding faster and faster. Numerous questions raced through my mind.
What is he doing here?
A wave of fear crept over me, considering how small the Philippines could be and the possibility that he might learn about Aegeus.
That can't happen.
Aegeus wants to see him...
I closed my eyes, not wanting to deny my son the right to know the person he'd been searching for. But how can I face this man? Can I really see the person who hurt me again?
Seeing him again brought back all those memories—the painful memories that still made my heart ache from the pain he caused. Even the good memories, ones I thought would stay with me forever.
Why do I have to see him again?
