Elijah POV
This morning I drove away to my office wearing a smile on my face. This is a good step for us. If we kept on being like this. I would win her heart in no time. I was sure about that.
I stepped into my office, and even Lara could notice my bright and unusual expression. “Good morning, Mr. Penn… I thought you wouldn’t be coming to the office today?” She said to me, grabbing her notepad before she followed me to my room. “What’s my schedule for today?” I asked her, taking a seat on my swivel chair. “I had a few documents for you to sign.” Lara pointed towards the other side of my desk.
It was piling so high I could even hide behind them. “Please bring me my coffee,” I said to Lara and then started to read the first document.
For the rest of the morning, I spent my time reading agreements and signing them.
It was around lunchtime when someone suddenly interrupted me. I looked up and sighed deeply as I saw Rebecca. “Elijah, darling! I missed you.” She said as she sauntered in. “Rebecca, I’m kind of busy here,” I said, with no interest. I don’t even bother looking at her. She wore very few clothes, and it was inappropriate for coming to this office.
“Where have you been? You went missing for a week, and your secretary won't tell me anything about you.” She pouted her lips. Rebecca then went towards me, putting one hand over my shoulder.
“Let’s go out to have some lunch together. There’s something I need to discuss with you… in private.” The way she says it makes me shiver. I knew she was up to no good.
“I am not hungry, and I still had a lot of agreement waiting for me. Maybe another time, Rebecca.” I told her. “I won’t accept no this time. It’s either lunch with me, or I’ll broadcast a bad review about your hotel on my Instagram.” She threatened.
“That’s ridiculous. You can’t force me to have lunch with you!?” I said, raising my voice. She rested both hands on the table, then leaned forward closer to me. “Apparently, I can… Mr. Penn.” She said.
I was standing as far away from her as we both went into the elevator. This woman could be very manipulative. I had to find a way to get rid of her.
It seems like the elevator took forever to get to the lobby. As we both heard the ping sound and the door went open, Rebbeca suddenly pushed me to the wall and captured my lips hungrily.
“Elijah!?..” The next second I heard Judith screaming my name. I pushed Rebecca away, and to my horror, she was actually there. Judith is there, and she just saw Rebecca kissing me!
It was such a nightmare. The lunchbox in her hand slipped and fell to the floor. I ran after her as she exited the building. She crossed the street, completely ignoring the red light.
My heart nearly stopped as a car almost hit her. Seriously, is she trying to kill herself? I had to save her.
I was halfway across the street when suddenly a car came from my right side, and it hit me.
**************
I couldn’t quite understand what had happened to me. I woke up in a white room, and I was alone there. Could this be the afterlife?
“Hello, is anybody here?” I said while looking around the place. The room was getting bigger and bigger as I walked. “Elijah Penn…” I was startled as I saw a man with wings in front of me. He didn’t look scary at all. In fact, I felt an indescribable feeling of peace growing inside my chest.
“Who are you, and where am I?” I asked him. He smiled at me. “Am I dead already?” I asked him.
“No, Elijah… You’re in between two worlds.” He explained to me. “I am Archangel Michael.” He then told me. I think I’ve read about him in the bible, but I had no idea that he truly exists.
“Please, Michael… I can’t be dead right now! I had to go back to my wife.” I bend down on my knees, pleading with him. “She has misjudged me. I never cheated on her.” I said.
I was surprised when he touched my shoulders. “Elijah… Heaven is not blind. We knew how much you love your wife.” The angel told me. I felt relieved that finally, someone would listen and believe in me.
“However, I can’t bring you back to life right now. But I do have one offer for you.” He then said.
I looked up at him. “What is it? I will do anything for my wife.” I said in reply.
“Get up, my son.” He said, helping me to get up on both feet. “I would put you back to the time you both first fall in love.” The angel told me. I frowned hard at him. “Why do I need to go back to that time?” I asked him curiously.
“Heaven give you another chance to do things right from the beginning. Have you been a good boyfriend and husband for Judith until now?” He asked me. I fell silent at that because I knew I wasn’t.
“I know you had a lot of regrets. This could be a good opportunity for you.” He then added. He moved his hand and then all of a sudden a big mirror showed up in front of us.
“Aren’t you curious? What would happen if you actually died right now?” Michael asked me. I could see Judith inside the mirror. She was pregnant. “That’s my wife, Judith!” I said, smiling at the mirror.
“No, she’s not….” Michael suddenly said. I turned to look at him. “What’s that supposed to mean? She’s the only woman that I ever loved! I can’t be mistaken.” I argued with him.
“Look at it again..” He said. I stared back at the mirror, and someone hugged Judith from behind. It was Steve. “Steve? That can’t be possible. What is he doing with my wife!?” I said, balling my fist.
“It’s because you didn’t do your best at giving your love while you’re alive. Sometimes money is not enough. That’s why when you died, Steve came around, and they ended up getting married.” Michael told me.
I felt stabbed in the chest. Am I that worthless to Judith? How can she forget about me? The moment I died, she easily moved on and had a new life with Steve.
“No!? This can’t be happening! They can’t be together.” I told him.
“Good luck, Elijah.” He smiled at me, and in a snap of his finger, I was getting sucked into the darkness.
