Chapter 1

Anne's POV Sultry air greeted me when I got off the plane. I was wearing only black trousers, a black thin coat with a white shirt underneath. I am also wearing a pair of white converse shoes since I'm not that comfortable with high heels. Well, I don't need to wear high sandals anymore because I am blessed with a good height that I got from my father. They say that I can pass as a model because of my good body, height, and looks. In fact, someone offered me to be a model for a brand, but because I didn't want that, I declined the offer. I never dreamed of being a model. My mother yes, but me? Oh, no. Not ever! I continued walking. It's good thing that I brought sunglasses because the sunlight is a bit blinding. The heat is also suffocating. It's only past nine in the morning but the heat here is already very intense. I'm not used to it. "Good morning, Ma'am." I turned to the man who I think is about 45 years old. He was looking at me with a smile on his lips. He was holding a white banner with my name written on it. I didn't read or notice that earlier when I left the arrival area. No one told me that someone would pick me up at the airport. "Yes, good morning." I greeted back. I don't even know if I should say good morning because my morning is not that good. The sun is so intense that you would think it was twelve o'clock in the afternoon. I haven't had much sun yet but I can already feel my body sweating. "Anne Franklin po, Ma'am?" He asked while still smiling. I just nodded and walked outside. "Ma'am, ako na po ang magdadala ng mga gamit niyo." "I can do it. Just get the car ready so we can leave." I said in a serious tone. "Okay po, Ma'am." After that, he hurriedly left to follow my orders. A few moments passed and a black Mitsubishi stopped right in front of me. The old man who was going to pick me up rushed out of the driver's seat. He immediately opened the door for me in the back seat. "Pasok na po kayo, Ma'am." "Thank you." After I got into the car, he immediately went around to the driver's seat and started the car. "Can you please, turn on the air conditioner?" I asked because of intense heat I feel. "Naka-todo na po 'yan, Ma'am." He replied with a smile then turned his gaze at me from the rearview mirror. I frowned. Why is the air conditioner weak? I can't even feel it. Tss. The hot weather makes me irritated so I removed my coat to reduce the heat of my body and sighed after. Let's just say that I haven't been home here in the Philippines for almost ten years. Aside from the fact that I don't have anything important to do here, I also don't really like the climate. I'm not used to this weather. If not only because of the mission, I really don't go here. While on the way, I just leaned my back on the backrest of the seat and closed my eyes. I didn't have much rest because after the superior told me about the mission, he immediately sent me here to the Philippines. It is said that the mission should need to be completed immediately. Before flying out of the country, I went to my parents and told them that I would be gone for a few months. They didn't even ask why because they knew I was always a busy person. I wasn't able to say that I was going home to the Philippines because they would surely question me about that. I can't say that it's because of my mission. It's a very confidential matter that I should keep to myself. I was about to sleep when the driver suddenly braked. My head almost hit the handle of the chair in front of me because of it. "What happened? Why do you suddenly braked?" I said in irritation. I also adjusted my seat and lowered the car window to see what happened. My sleepiness suddenly disappeared. Geezz! "Pasensiya na po, Ma'am. May biglang sumingit kasi na sasakyan, e." He explained while shyly scratching the back of his ear. I just touched my forehead and sighed again. What a day! Traffic caught up with us on the way so it made our head even hotter. This is one of the things mom says, I'll know when I'm in the Philippines when the cars stop moving. It's overstressing. We also spent some time on the trip. What was supposed to be an hour and a half ended up being almost three hours on the trip. I wasn't tired from the flight, I was tired from the heat and traffic. "Pasensiyahan niyo na po, Ma'am, kung ganito katagal ang biyahe natin. Inabot pa tuloy tayo ng ilang oras." We just arrived at the house the superior rented for me. The house has two floors. The paint of the house is mixed with dirty white and yellow, while the window is charcoal color. Outside there are some plants planted. There is also a garage where there is one more car. "Iyang kotse po na iyan ang gagamitin niyo sa t'wing may pupuntahan po kayo." I nodded and wandered my eyes again. "Ma'am naiintindihan niyo po ba ang sinasabi ko?" I turned my eyes to the driver once again. Even though I have been in a foreign country for a long time and almost grew up there, I can still understand and speak Tagalog. Whenever I visit mom, we always talk in Tagalog, so the word is not new to me. "I can understand. Don't worry." The driver didn't stay long. After he explained some things and toured me around the house, he already said goodbye because he had to take care of something else. I know that he knows about my mission. The superior emailed me a while ago while we were on the trip saying that someone who is also a trustee of the agency will pick me up. I'm sure that the driver who picked me up was also an agent. I am alone here at home but every week someone comes here to clean. All tools and gadgets are also complete. The fridge and freezer are all full of food. There are also ready-made newly bought clothes that I can use on the cabinet. As our superior said, the weapons are ready for me to use just in case. I looked at it in the said location and couldn't help but smile when I saw several high-caliber guns there. I don't know about myself but every time I touch and see guns it makes me happy. Yeah, it's weird. After putting the guns back in its place, I immediately went to the bathroom and took a shower. I also want to rest for a while before planning the mission. I'm sleepy too. I just can't go straight to bed without taking a bath. After taking a bath, I quickly dry my hair and without changing the silky dress I've worn, I go to sleep. I don't know how long I've been asleep, I just woke up when I felt starving. My stomach aches, maybe because I haven't eaten yet for a day. Before going down, I changed my clothes first. From the silky dress, I changed it into an oversized black t-shirt with a word written in the middle and a denim short. "I don't know how to cook." I whispered and awkwardly smiled to myself. Hindi ako marunong magluto. That's one of my weaknesses. My mom always cooks for us. When I was in state, I often ate outside or had food delivered. I sighed. There is a lot of food here but no one will cook for me. Nonsense. Because of the lack of other options, I just took some cereal from the food cabinet and put milk on it. It can also be a way to overcome hunger for those who are lazy and don't know how to cook like me. Natatawa ako sa sarili ko. I have already imagined how my future children and husband will be. Maybe they will be hungry if I am with them at home. I shook my head. Why am I thinking about that thing, I don't have a boyfriend. After eating, I decided to take a walk outside. My feet took me to a park inside the subdivision. It's a wide subdivision and I think all famous personalities and rich people live here based on huge houses. From the park where I am standing now, I can also see a playground and baskeball area from not so far. At the very center of the subdivision, there is a largest fountain also. I was amazed and yet felt a bit of relaxation. Tomorrow, I will start the mission that has been bothering me. But for now, I'll make myself rest first because I know that in the next few days I won't be able to get rest. If given the chance, I would like to somehow visit mom's home town. I hope I can go there before I return to the States. Peep! Peep! Peep! I was pulled back from my deep thoughts when a car behind me honked its horn. My soul was almost torn apart by that volume. It scared the hell out of me. "Get out of there, stupid!" He shouted from the window of his car. I frowned. I was on the side of the road so I couldn't quite figure out why he had to honk so loudly and said that I'm the stupid here. It's annoying. I angrily look at the car which was now moving. When he was close to where I was standing, I didn't think twice but threw his windshield with the stone I got. He deserves that because of his modesty. Hindi manlang kasi magsorry. It irritates me. "What is your problem?!" He yelled at me when he got out of the car. He was hysterical when he saw that the windshield of his beloved car was broken. "Do you know how expensive this car is? Your life is not enough to pay for it!" he added. Because I didn't care about what he was saying, I decided to walk away. Kotse lang 'yon. It wouldn't make him die. Besides, it looks like he can replace what was damaged there compared to my soul that was almost lost because of his loud horn, and it suit him because how dare he to call me stupid. No one ever called me stupid in my entire life. He's boiling my blood. I was only a few steps away when he pulled my arm. I'm surprised. I didn't expect him to pull me close to him. I got a close look at his godlike face. I have never seen such a face. It seems very perfect and without any bruises or blemishes because of the very smooth face. His nose was perfectly shaped as if God intended it to be perfect. Even his eyebrows are only moderately thick and well shaped. But what I'm amazed the most is his gray eyes. When those eyes stare at you, you'll be crazy and hypnotized that makes you want to stare for longer of time. "Where do you think you're going?" I can see his hard stares on me. His voice was in deep tone as if his a cop who declared an oath to a suspect. It makes me shaken yet fall into his trap. "Bayaran mo ang sinira mo!" That makes me snap back to my senses and quickly removed his hands to my arms. "In your dreams!" I yelled back and tried to walk out. It was his fault after all. Kung hindi siya bumusina ng pagkalakas-lakas at Hindi siya walanghiya ay hindi ko naman babatuhin ang kotse niya. Blame himself why it happened. I step away from him but he still tried to block me. "Sinira mo ang pinaka-expensive kong kotse. Do you think I will let it pass?" He eyed me angrily while his hands were tightly holding my arms. "Pay what you've damaged—Ahhh!" He groaned as I kicked his private part. I smirked after kicking his bull and quickly left him. I don't want to waste my time for a man like him. Yes, he's gorgeously handsome but I don't want that kind of attitude. I rather admire ugly faces with a good heart than patronize good faces with a devilish personality.
