Chapter 3: New Employee

1418 Words
(Lucas POV) “F*ck! How can I make this mistake?” I mumbled and looked toward Kaeton, whose eyes were stuck on the blonde boy behind the bar counter. I gritted my teeth in anger and put my glass on the table. “You want to gobble down this boy or what?” I hissed in anger and he gave me a cheesy smile. “Nah! Not now but tonight…yes!” He gulped his whole glass in one go. “So, You gave him hope that you would call him because deep down you knew that you would call him again, so why are you asking me about it? Just call him and give him that damn job. If you think that it will go wrong at any point then let it be, Lucas! I know you and your power, you can make every wrong right, so why are you so afraid? I have never seen you like this over a boy, so I think this one is special and different from the others, right?” I didn’t answer Keeton's questions because he was right about everything. “What if he judges me because of our first wrong impressions?” I asked, and his mouth hung open. “What??? Since when have you started caring about others' judgments?” I pressed my lips in a thin line and picked up my glass. “Nothing! Just go and get laid,” I said, and he gave me a big grin before standing up. I know he will convince that boy before the night ends. I rolled my eyes, but a smile crept onto my lips when I thought about Arwin. My phone buzzed and I checked the file. I transferred the amount to that Mask Man, who helped me several times in the past. I started reading that file and my expressions changed in a few seconds. Well! It shocked me a bit and I made up my mind about it. Let’s see what life has in store for me. I don’t care if this experiment goes right or wrong because one thing is sure, I want that boy in my life now. * * * * (Arwin POV) When I left his office, I took a deep breath. I don’t know why I did what I did back there. I clearly knew that he wasn’t interviewing me when I heard his command, but there was something deep and magnetic that pulled me and made me obey him. “No, Arwin! You did it to get that job…nothing else,” I mumbled, but my heart was racing like a beating drum and I took a few deep breaths to calm myself down. I booked an Uber and headed straight to the hospital. I received a notification that my father deposited the money in my bank account just a few minutes ago, so I have to pay the bills of the hospital. “It will not be a good idea to start a job here, but sh*t! I have no other choice,” I said and decided to think about this later. My Uber arrived, and I quickly gave him instructions before finally relaxing. I closed my eyes and his words echoed in my mind. “Lovely, Arwin! You are a perfection,” My eyes snapped open and I looked around. F*ck! I didn’t realize that I drifted to sleep for a few minutes. I didn’t get even a wink of sleep last night because of this job interview. I don’t know if he will give me this job after this weird interaction or not. “Please universe! I need this job,” I sent a silent prayer before looking outside the car. Jessie and Judy's smiles came in front of my eyes and I felt like I would die if Lucas Emerson Blackwood didn’t give me this job. Our car stopped outside the hospital. I paid the driver and thanked him before walking towards the hospital. Every single thing has become so familiar now, that I can navigate my way even with my eyes closed. I pushed the button for the 6th floor and started waiting. I had to meet her doctor before going to Jessie’s room. It took me almost half an hour to meet her doctor and pay all the bills. I walked towards her room with a big smile when someone collided with me. “Ouch! I am so sorry. I am so clumsy,” I looked at the girl who was barely 16 or 17, but her eyes were focused on the floor. I started gathering her things with her and she didn’t even notice me. I thought she would apologize but nah! She didn’t utter a single word. “No, no, no!!!” She shook her head and started searching the floor. “Have you lost anything, girl?” I asked, and she looked toward me like she didn’t even notice my presence till now. “I lost a medicine of my grandfather's and I didn’t have a dime to buy it again,” She said, and my heart softened. “Don’t worry! Let's find it together,” I said and both of us started searching for that medicine. After a few minutes, she found it near the bench’s leg. She was about to pick it up when someone stepped on it. We looked towards the person. She was an old lady pushing her son’s wheelchair. A tear rolled down her cheek when she picked up the crumpled box of that medicine. “I can buy it for you,” I offered and took that crumpled box from her hand and ran towards the pharmacy. I don’t want to overspend but that girl was in serious need of these medicines. I paid for the medicine and ran towards the girl, who was standing there like a statue. “Th-thank you!” she said after wiping her tears. She had almond-brown eyes and short brown hair in a pixie cut, but she looked beautiful. She was barely 5’2” with a slightly curvy figure. She thanked me again before running towards the elevator, and I smiled. I shook my head and headed towards Jessie’s room. “And here is Arwin! He is our only brother,” I said, pushing open the door. I saw Judy. Our mother’s mobile was in her hand, and she was filming everything like a news anchor. “Wow! Who got this intelligent idea?” I asked and put Jessie’s medicine on the table. “Jessie got this idea! She asked me to film everything from now on, so if…” Judy told me but then stopped. Tears rolled down her cheeks. “So, if my operation got failed then you will have my memories with you,” Jessie’s words shocked the sh*t out of me. “What??? Who said that your operation could be unsuccessful?” I asked and looked towards them, who were looking a lot more mature than other 8-year-old children. “No one did but I know, Arwin! No need to give us false hopes. Honestly! I want this operation to be either successful or unsuccessful. Because! I don’t want to be a burden on everyone forever,” She sobbed at the last word. “Hey, hey, hey! What are you saying, Kiddo? You are not a burden on us…never ever think like this again,” Judy was also sobbing and I controlled my tears. “But, Arwin! Will I be able to attend school like other children? Or will I be able to play in a park with other children like everyone?” She asked with so much hope that my heart bled after hearing her words. “Why not, Kiddo? You will be able to attend school, play in the park, and prank your fellows after this operation. I promise you,” She lifted her fragile hand and showed me her pinky. I smiled and hooked my pinky with hers. “Pinky promise!” I said and she yipped with happiness. I hugged Judy as well when my mother entered the room with a bowl of soup. “Fresh chicken corn soup for everyone,” We love her soups, so I quickly served the soup to everyone. We finished our lunch with laughter and jokes but Jessie’s words got stuck in my mind. She has such simple wishes, but I can’t fulfill them. For the last three years, this hospital has become her second home.
