Chapter 15: Northern King Regis
Third Person's POV
The intense pale-blue eyes sharply gazed at the kneeling posture of his right hand subordinate. This taciturn man that is older than him by a decade.
The bright light of the day and the darkness that occupies the study fought for dominance, as the tall and perfectly proportioned body of King Regis sitting in the center of the study while leaning languidly seems to flicker in and out of existence.
The invisible pressure and imposing air around him is as natural as his breathing. This is the aura of a monarch.
The monarch of the northern kingdom, King Regis Jael Seiron, the first born of the Old King and the pride of every citizen of the northern wilderness.
His raven-colored hair softly flowing until his slender waist, bright pale-blue eyes, thin red lips, and pale white skin because of the always cold temperature of the wilderness, creates a picture of an untouchable crystal that can only be found in the dangerous hidden caves of the northern ice mountains.
"Rise..."
The low voice colder than his territory indifferently flowed out of his thin lips. The sound of his voice is like a judgement for the captain of his personal guards. Nio gave another salute before standing up and staying still, waiting for his king's order.
All of the words that will come out of his majesty the King's mouth is the decree that he follows and will follow until his body is buried six meters under the snowy lands of his homeland.
"Report your purpose..."
Nio immediately took the golden scroll and showed it to King Regis.
"A message from the royal family of the Eastern Regin Kingdom."
He only uttered this simple words and placed the scroll in the table in front of Regis, before saluting and striding out of the study.
He has followed Regis since he came of age, and they have a tacit understanding in many things, letting him go in and out of the royal study without a word.
Regis moved his gaze away from his subordinate's leaving silhouette to the slightly glowing golden scroll placed in his dark study. The insignia of an always moving and twisting flame flashed in his pale-blue eyes giving it an illusion of the only source of warmth in an ice cold world.
His slender and long fingers reached out and clasped the scroll, twisting it in the palm of his hand. The soft and smooth texture of the scroll caressed his cold hand.
"Eastern Regin..."
Regis unfurled the seal and opened the scroll, instantly seeing the royal stamp of the Regin kingdom and the signature of a new ruler.
The soft written and flowing signature of Nem Asteria ingrained itself on the eyes of the most powerful man in the northern wilderness.
The content of the letter is also swiftly understood by Regis. He just glanced at it, and a bell sounded as an old retainer respectfully entered the study.
"Deal with this letter appropriately."
The retainer carefully held the scroll suddenly thrown by his highness the King Regis and dutifully nodded, he saluted as he briskly walked out to finished the job given to him.
"A sixteen year old Queen of a five hundred year old kingdom..."
Regis leaned back on his chair and closed his eyes. He is not much of a difference. A twenty-one year old King of a nine hundred year old kingdom.
At the Eastern Regin Kingdom, the royal palace.
Nem worriedly stared at her youngest sister's sickly face, grief and distress in her eyes. Her youngest sister Amayris has already suffered through countless pains since she was born, but another misery was again placed on her thin and frail shoulders.
Nem does not know why the gods allow such a pure and innocent young girl to suffer endlessly. A sigh of helplessness flitted past her as she strokes the sunken cheeks of Amayris.
She just hopes that the Northern Kingdom will quickly arrange her request of the rare herbs needed to nourish Amayris.
This is her first time to send a message personally to another ruler of a kingdom, and she was at first nervous on what to write, fortunately royal advisor Agiel helped her to make a formal request that do not lack the etiquette of the royal family.
"I hope the Northern King is an amiable person and will help."
Nem muttered absentmindedly. She took one last look on Amayris' pale face and heavily left the royal chamber. Zyar and two of her personal palace maids are outside waiting for her.
"Your majesty is everything alright?"
Nem just nodded her head while biting her pinkish thin lips giving it a reddish hue.
"Let's go, this Queen will rest for the day, but prepare some tonics tomorrow and send them to the Old Duke."
Zyar nodded at Nem's order.
'The situation of the Old Duke is exactly like the late King, the Queen must want to understand and probe some things.'
Zyar thought in his heart and ordered the two palace maid to record the Queen's words.
"This Queen also needs to announce the new laws in accordance with the tax and land deeds of the farmers in the central square tomorrow."
"This servant understands, Her majesty does not need to worry about the security and order."
Zyar solemnly vowed making Nem nod in assurance. She slowly moved through the grounds of the royal palace, and surveyed the beautiful surroundings to lighten the weight in her heart.
This is only the start of her rulership, but she already feels like a lot of burden is piled up on her back. The feeling is suffocating to the young her.
She took a total of an hour to head back to her royal chambers, and her upright and resolute self outside turned into a young girl that still needs the embrace of her loving parents.
Her soft appearance tinged with exhaustion and anxiety can make any living being feel utterly distressed.
"Royal Father, Asteria still needs you."
The light and almost audible whimper under the soft blankets made of a wild beasts fur sounded in the quiet space.
In the royal chamber of the first princess of the Regin kingdom.
"What is the situation of the Old Duke?"
Seles' casual voice of inquiry alerted the two personal palace maid attending next to her who is lazily sipping her tea in a graceful manner.
"This servant heard that his skin has started rotting."
Seles raised her eyebrow at the news. It is only a day since the news of the Old Duke contracting the late king's disease, but he is already on the stage of having his skin rot slowly. The pain must be unimaginable for an old man in his late years.
"That benefactor is really amazing ah."
A strange laugh left her lips as her personal maids trembled in silence. The first princess is really scary for them who knows her true face.
"I wonder how long the Old Duke can last so that I can start to move my plans."
Seles hummed in satisfaction, imagining the successful implementation of her plans to conquer this kingdom.
The poisoning of the Old Duke is only the start, and Seles knows that her plan would not be realized if not for that mysterious benefactor.
"I would even have a deal with the devil to fulfill my desires so what is wrong with a little mysterious helper..."
Seles continued to laugh while asking no one in particular.
