Chapter 14: Northern King Third Person's POV The wind whistled incessantly as pieces of snow fluttered from the sky down the white landscape that covers the earth. Each piece of snow is like a drop of a precious crystal made from the teardrops of the gods that brings forth chills but warms the heart with its untainted beauty. The nonstop sound of horse hooves crumpling the white snow followed the manager of the relay station as he hurries on his journey. The relay station of the flying beasts that deals with messages is situated an hour away from the walls of the city of ice, the capital city of the Northern Kingdom that rules over all of the northern wilderness. The northern wilderness is covered with snow all year round aside from the time that the spring and summer season comes. The time of these two season is also shorter by a month than the regular seasons. The northern wilderness is also a land of forests and mountains that mostly covers all of its territory, and the capital city is also situated in the hollow mountain peak of one of the highest mountains in the center of the northern wilderness, the fey mountain. The ancestors of the royal family created the Northern Kingdom with the family of their followers. The three thousand individuals that set foot in the northern wilderness grew stronger with time and the current kingdom carries the nine hundred years of wealth and knowledge that their ancestors amassed. The nine hundred years since the creation of the kingdom, new infrastructures emerged. Roads are built to facilitate the travel from the capital city situated in the peak to the foot of the mountain. Eight cities also appeared in the four cardinal directions with two in each, to guard the borders and protect the capital city in the center. The lives of the people in the kingdom became better and better, and it is now a hegemonic force in the origin land that even the Central Myth Empire dare not to offend. The four armies of the Northern Kingdom is also one of the reasons of its fierce reputation. The northern wolf, southern tiger, eastern leopard and the western bear army. These four armies is one of the prides of the northern citizens. Each army is handled by a marshal and two generals that have been bathed in blood since they have entered the army. It is because of the special way of trial and trainings with tamed and untamed savage beasts and wild beasts with the soldiers that they are all like pillars of strength and vigor. They are all trained in a wild and ferocious way of fighting their enemies, and this is the reason that their momentum, even with just standing still can make an ordinary foot soldier in another kingdom the urge to flee and surrender. The slight gasping of breath along with a white puff of air escaped the lips of the manager as he surveys the rustic and fear-inducing wall made of ice a couple of minutes away from him. The solid ice wall of the capital city of the Northern kingdom is fifty meters high and circles the whole city that is almost three times bigger than the royal capital of the Regin kingdom. The guards that stood atop the wall and in front of the giant gate noticed the rushing figure of the manager, and seeing the insignia drawn on his winter headgear of a silver crescent moon facing downward, and a gold cloth tied around his arm, they immediately gave the order to open the gate. They recognized the gold cloth as a sign of an urgent message from another kingdom and dared not to waste the time of the messenger for fear of any consequences to arise. The manager entered the ice capital city with no obstruction. The guards doesn't even bother to think that he may be an assassin or a spy because he will surely die if he is. The Northern King is not someone that just anyone can provoke. He is the warrior at the highest spot of the pyramid in this wild-like kingdom full of soldiers and citizens that loves to fight and hunt in the wilderness. A huge and bustling white city entered the sights of the rushing manager. The wide brick road that can allow ten carriages riding side by side is cleaned without a layer of snow. The buildings at each side is full of life and warmth, while dozens of stalls orderly lined up in the corner selling different types of hot and warm food in this cold and chilly weather. Even the air and the people inside the city seems much more happy and pure unlike the citizens of the other kingdoms. This is the ingenuity and mark of the Northern Kingdom, and all of it could be credited to their past and present ruler. They had even conquered a powerful tribe situated north outside the border of the kingdom, and it is the Northern King that led his own group to fight them. That tribe is an unusual spiritual tribe that believes in the gods and possesses the ability to grow plants even in the much harsher and colder weather condition in their land. They could also use the plants to attack their enemies which could be tricky and irritating. The manager shook his head to scatter the thoughts of admiration, pride and awe about the ability of their king while seeing their prosperous kingdom. Another hour of rushing his horse without stopping to rest landed him in another wall of ice twenty meters high. The white background of snow and the silver buildings of the royal palace looks ethereal like the abodes of the gods in the legends. Stopping in the small gate on the eastern side of the wall, the manager dismounted his panting horse and faced the four fierce-looking soldiers in white armors standing guard. "Manager of sky relay station requests to pass an important message to his highness the King." The leading guard of the four eyed the manager from head to toe, before motioning for another guard to ask a retainer to come and receive the message. Not even five minutes passed when a young man dressed in a thick gray coat, and a gray badge on his shoulder arrived. Retainers are mostly like housekeepers of the royal palace and there are a hundred of them. The gray badge is also the mark of a retainer. The manager quickly took out the golden scroll bound tightly in his inner pockets and paid his respects before he left. The retainer glanced at the insignia shown on the strips of cloth that bounds the scroll, and he also hurriedly entered the palace to send the message to the king. It is not everyday that the royal family of one of the hegemonic existences in the origin land sends the northern kingdom a message. The retainer was fast on his feet and bypassed all the patrolling guards to arrive in the inner palace that is also protected by an ice wall. This palace is called polaris and is the abode of the King. Seeing a retainer coming with a golden scroll in his hands. The leader of the personal guards of the king wearing a silver armor came out of the exquisite door and grabbed the scroll without a word before going back in again. The retainer could only shook his head at the always taciturn right hand of the King. The taciturn-faced guy's big strides got him in the study of the king in less than a minute and he did not hesitate to knock on the door three times as he opened it. Striking pale-blue eyes like the frozen ice carrying no ripples greeted the sight of the black-eyed man that entered his territory. "Your majesty King Regis this loyal subordinate pays his respects!"
