Are You My Mate?

Chapter 24

 * I throw on a cute flowery dress because if I'm going to be worked I at least want to look cute. (That is if she doesn't have me a maids uniform picked out) "You won't be wearing it," says as I look into the mirror. "Areta I was just thinking to myself" "I wouldn't wear it" I say probably lying. "And I'll make sure of it," (Yes mam) I feel like saying.  

I wanted to turn around and run home as I got closer to the door and saw wolves everywhere. (Will everyone laugh at me?) (I'm sure his Luna will) Areta tells me that I had to see our competition so I continued. (I was also afraid of the consequences for disobeying Luna Karen)

"Deni," says Dean as he looks at me surprised as I walk confidently up to him, Luna Karen, his Luna and her parents. (I am anything but) "I'm here Luna Karen, what would you like me to do?'' I ask trying not to sound nervous.

I'm not surprised to see that his Luna looks like his moms clone. Well she's blond and tall. Her eyes are also a different color and she seems to be a bleach blonde. (But none of that matters because she still has my mate) 

"There's a wine cellar in the kitchen-" "Mom you have her working,?" asks Dean as he looks at her. "She offered to help" she lies as she smiles nervously at him. "Did you?' he links. She quickly tells me the name of the wine before I can answer him, and I turn to walk towards the kitchen without saying anything to him. (He may think I'm being rude but I'm trying my best not to cry. 

"This is just great you i***t!" "You brought the wrong type of wine!" yells Luna Karen as she takes it from me. "I don't really drink so I wasn't sure of the type you mentioned" I say nervously while still trying to hold back tears at seeing Dean with some Betas daughter, even though, he keeps linking me to tell me that this is all just temporary and for show. 

It's also embarrassing to have to act as a waitress in front of my competition as she enjoys my suffering along with his mom. Her parents look concerned and her dad even tells Luna Karen that the type of wine doesn't matter. 

"You won't think that way when you taste it" she says as she hands me the bottle. "This will be over soon baby" links Dean as I turn to leave with my head held high, while continuing to hold back tears so that they won't have the satisfaction of seeing me cry. 

It would be easier for me to believe him if it wasn't for his mom's evil glare each time, I steal a glance at him. (She's also made it very clear that she'll do anything to make sure we don't end up together) I wish that we would have waited to mate, then maybe our love wouldn't be as strong for each other.

He is everything to me and at one time I thought that I could finally have someone that would be with me forever. (I feel even more alone than I ever have even though I have friends)  

When I come back Luna Karen smiles and takes the bottle from my hand. "This is the one I was telling you about Marcia," she says as she proudly shows it off to the Beta's mate. (I do not care to know any of their names but I'm sure I'll find out today) (I guess I should probably know the names of the people destroying my happiness) 

"I should have told you to bring more than one" "You know what?" "Bring it" she says with an amused smirk. "Make sure it's from the back so that it's extra chilled," she yells as I turn to walk the long journey back to the kitchen seller. (It feels that way) (Or more like a walk of shame)

"I'm so sorry Deni" he links sounding pitiful. I turn to look at him, then I give a little bow which causes Areta to growl. "Thank you so much Deni for agreeing to help" he adds but this time I don't look. 

"You know what Deni, come back,?" he says as I'm about walk through the doors again. "Mom that's enough," "Get one of the Omega's to do it," says Dean as he motions for me to join them.

 He tries to grab my hand when I am closer but, I move it as I avoid looking at him so that I don't anger his chosen mate or her family. (Although he didn't really choose her) She was chosen for him by his mom, because I am not worthy. 

"You are more than worthy Denai," "As a matter of fact they are all beneath you," growls Areta. "Please not now," I say as I fear her anger grow. "Well since the Omegas will be getting it you can get going!" yells Luna Karen as I try to avoid Dean's eyes.

 "Yes Luna Karen" I say as I try to bow. My knees don't bend and it's as if they're locked because Areta stops me, then she fights to get through. I feel my canines growing but luckily my mouth is closed and it will stay closed if I can help it.

 I close my eyes tightly so that they can't tell she's trying to get out. I scream as I grab my head from my splitting headache. "You're stronger than I thought," she says as she tries her best to shift. "Please Areta," I beg again before I black out.  

"Do you see what I told you... weak,?" says Luna Karen as I wake up, from having fainted. (Areta is going to be pissed with me) "Are you okay Deni?" "Yes, I don't know what happened?" I say as I put my hand on my still throbbing head. 

"She's up now so lets go," "We have so many things prepared for tonight," says Luna Karen as she turns the attention to the Betas wife. "You shouldn't have asked her to do so much," "You hired all of these wolves, and for what?" he asks angrily as moves his fingers in front of my eyes.

"I'm fine Dean" I say as I sit up then I get up with the help of the Beta and Dean as I continue avoiding his eyes. "I didn't think getting wine was so stressful or I would have got it'' she laughs causing his Luna and her mother to laugh along with her. 

"Fine you get them," she says when he does look amused. "Beta Devon, Marcia, Caitlyn lets go sit at the table and wait for everyone else to arrive," "I have so much to tell you about how our packs can get to know each other better," she says as she turns while holding the bottle of wine as if it were a newborn pup. 

"Deni, baby" says Dean as he grabs my arm. "Please Dean, just... just let me go" "Will you wait for me in your room, I need to see you, before the ceremony?" I nod as I slowly pull away. I need to talk to him too. (It's not to tell him that I'm leaving but I want a good hug and kiss from him before I go)  

"I love only you Deni!" he yells as I hurry towards 'my room'. "Whoa there!" "Are you okay,?" asks Alpha Lawrence as I manage to stop in front of him. "Yes, I was just heading home to get ready for the ceremony," I lie as I turn to wipe away my tears, hoping he didn't notice.  

"Did someone hurt or bully you,?" "No Alpha Lawrence... I just miss my dad," I lie again. (Of course I always miss him but that's not why I'm crying) "I understand, if you ever need someone to talk to, just call me, I would be happy to talk to you" "And your dad was one of my best friends, so just call me Lawrence" "Okay I'll try" I say now smiling at hearing about my dad.

 "We were almost brothers" My smile gets bigger as I remember them together. (They were, very close) "He really loved your mom," he says as he puts a hand on my shoulder. "Honey we need to get to the ceremony, the guests are arriving," says Luna Karen surprising me. (What happened to all the plans she had with the other pack)

 "I'll be right there after I make sure that Denai is okay" "I'm fine Alpha" I say with a small smile, so that I don't cause him any problems with the Luna. (She has him wrapped around her finger) At least that's what everyone in the pack says.

"Are you sure,?" "Yes Alpha Lawrence" "Thank you but I'm fine" I say as I bow. "You don't ever have to bow to me or any Alpha that does not have royal blood and call me Lawrence" he says as he lifts my chin.

 I almost tear up because that's what Dean always tells me when I bow to his mom. "Honey you are the Alpha of this pack, she is just being... a spoiled brat" she says as she cuts her eyes at me. 

"I know who she is, which is why I want to make sure she's okay" "You go smile and wave and do your Luna duties and don't be so... the way that you are," "Especially not to Denai," "She's a good girl" he says firmly causing her to look at me in shock. (Great, now she'll hate me even more, if that's possible) 

"I'll be fine Alpha, I just need to get dressed and then I'll be joining you guys" I say with a forced smile. "Good, I want you sitting next to us so that they'll know that you're part of the family, because you are," (Yep, even more family than it seems you'll ever get to know dear Alpha) 

(I should be sitting next to Dean as his Luna instead of that imposter Luna) I think to myself, but I don't dare say anything or she will have my head on one of the fine china platters that she ordered for this special occasion.  

"Yes Alpha" I say as I nod while she pouts and crosses her arms. I decide not to go to 'the room', I instead go to my house and I look for a dress in my closet. I have to look good next to them since Alpha Lawrence wants me to be there with them and I'll at least have one picture close to my mate, even if I'm not there as his Luna.
