(ATLAS’S POV)
Everything in the world had come to a stop. Every single thing. Even the oxygen I was breathing in had seized in that moment.
I don’t know how many minutes had passed with me frozen and unmoving as I stared in to those large brown eyes that have never stopped haunting my dreams.
Amaya.
It didn’t matter that in place of her long shiny blonde hair, she had short red hair, it didn’t matter that her usual cheerful face was now replaced with a stone cold expression that left her looking almost unrecognizable.
“Mr Windsor.”
That was not the first time my name was being called, it must have been the third, fourth or maybe even the fifth. But only when the attorney seated beside me nudged me did I jolt back to my surrounding.
Everyone in the room was looking at me and turning back to face her, she was too.
Was this real? Or was it happening because I thought about love in specific this morning. That’s no excuse seeing as I thought about her everyday.
“Excuse me, Mr Windsor. Do you feel well?” The attorney asked leaning closer to whisper.
Of course I did not feel well! I did not know what the f**k was going on! But I could not say that, could I?
“I’m fine.” I said in a gruff tone looking down at the file that the attorney had slid over to my side of the table.
It was showing that the stakes had been raised higher by the opposing company. If we lost this case then we would be losing everything. It was a brutal case now.
“Was this the initial agreement?” I whispered to the attorney.
I could see a moment of confusion in his eyes.
“The Arisons attorney just explained that they changed things. They are taking on a higher bid.” He explained.
I had not been paying attention so of course I would not know. I looked down at the file again this time searching for names of the main representative for Amaya Thorne.
Her name was not present, instead there was the name: Camille Arison.
“So, do we proceed?” She said.
I looked up at her again.
Her voice was icy cold, flat and blut instead of the usual cheerful and sweet tone but it was her voice regardless.
“No. We will reconvene in some days.” I said holding her eyes. She did not even flinch.
She simply shut the file shut.
“Very well then. Have your assistants reach out to our assistants concerning a fixed date.” She said rising to her feet.
The meeting was over and while they exchanged handshakes, I remained in my seat with my eyes never leaving her.
Only when she started to leave the room did I stand up and hurry to catch up with her. She was swarmed with a good number of people and as I made my way through the little crowd, her bodyguard stood preventing me from getting to her.
“It’s okay.” She said calmly and he stepped aside.
I took in her presence again. She looked so different, so beautiful, so elegant and so expensive. She seemed to have put on a little more weight that made her even more curvy than she was before.
The beige skirt suit she wore, hugged her in the right places.
“Amaya?” I couldn’t help but say as I stepped forward. Her eyes showed no familiarity and only a bland formal look.
“Excuse me?” She said.
“What the-? What the hell is this?” I said taking another step forward as if only realizing that she was real.
“Is this about the new agreement, Mr Windsor? I didn’t think your company was one to be scared of….”
But I cut her short immediately.
“This has nothing to do with that and you know it!” I said fiercely. “Is this what you used the stolen money and property to do? To get a new look and deceive everyone?”
She looked at me as if confused for a brief moment and then her face turned serious.
“Don’t speak to me like that. I will let this slide today because from the beginning of the meeting, it has been obvious that you are unstable today.” She said and then with one last glance, she added. “We will be waiting for your response.”
She walked away then and I stood glued to the spot.
“Mr Windsor, is everything okay?” My assistant, Kemi asked me with concern.
“Yes.” I answered without sparing her a glance as I matched back to the boardroom.
It was empty now and I locked the door behind me getting my phone out with my trembling hands.
“Yes. I need you to do some urgent work for me. Find out everything you can about Camille Arison. I want to know every single detail, nothing left out, do you hear me?” I said in to the phone.
“Yes sir.” Came the reply.
“Make it fast. Very fast.” I said again and then I ended the call.
With a heavy racing heart and a jumbled mind, i paced around the room restlessly and ran my fingers through my hair.
I sank in to the nearest chair to me with a thousand and one questions rushing through my mind.
I settled on one of them temporarily.
What the f**k just happened?
