21. The Superior agrees

ANNA After Jude claimed to know where the werewolves stayed, we immediately followed him. His little sister went along. He told us that the place wasn't too far, it would take about three hours on foot. We didn't care if it would take thirteen hours as long as we got to see the werewolves. I stared at Jude as he walked ahead. Jeez, I was kind of attracted to him. I mean, he was really cute and had great shape—an arguably better shape than the vampire. The vampire was really good-looking but this human guy had a better build. And a great ass. I wonder how he maintained his physique in a time like this. Who was hotter? For some reason, I still favoured the vampire, maybe because his voice still ran freely in my head. But Jude's eyes were so. . . . I snapped out of it. What the hell! I was thinking about two guys who had no interest in me. One had barely stared at me all and the other was probably angry that I didn't serve as his dinner. “You are really pretty, you know?” Jude said as I met up with him. Wait, did he just call me pretty? Oh, my f*cking goodness! Was he telepathic or something? I was just thinking about him. “Pardon me, what did you say?” “I said you were really beautiful.” Oh my gosh! I was really happy he rephrased it, it just got even better. I felt like pretending to not hear again so he'll probably call me something else but I decided against that. Nah, he'll think I have got something wrong with my ears. “Thank you,” I said, smiling but with my face turned away from him. “So, how did you and your sister survive all this while?” Jude told me that he wasn't living in Crystal Oak Island prior to Hamzak 101 breaking out. He had only come for a vacation with his family when Hamzak 101 became too serious. Because of the virus, intercountry flights (or any means of transportation whatsoever) were cancelled. Some countries went ahead to close their boundaries for good. The virus was indeed unlike anything the world had ever seen so it was no surprise that it shook the entire world. Well, perhaps, the world didn't take Hamzak 101 seriously enough because all its efforts didn't help when the whole world crumbled and became what it is today. The virus began to kill people so quickly that it ended most of life on Earth—and so damn quickly. For some inexplicable reason, Crystal Oak was the only place where humans were safe. At least they didn't die immediately, almost like Crystal Oak delayed their deaths. People heard this information very late and most of them lost their lives before they could get anywhere close to the island. This all happened nearly seventeen months ago and the population of humans was dangerously close to nil. As for the supernatural beings, we all came to Crystal Oak as it was the closest thing to ‘home'. It was the one place on Earth that was meant for Supernaturals even though humans lived here prior to the outbreak. Besides, where else would we go to? It's not like there's anything for anyone out there. “Here it is," Jude said, pointing to a compound with high wire fences. It was more than just a compound, it looked like a little town on its own. “Beyond the fence?" Tasha inquired. “It looks endless, scary and not very ‘wolfy'.” Nika cracked up at Tasha's words. “Did you expect them to live in the woods or something?” “Not really, this looks more like a prison than a wolf den.” Brushing all the jokes aside and bringing the mission back to mind, I asked, “How do we get inside?” “We wait." Wait . . .what? Was Jude crazy? “We wait?” I echoed. Jude nodded and smiled at me. “Come on, they are werewolves, they knew we were here long before we got here.” The stories I have heard about them were true indeed. Their senses were incredibly heightened. “Jude, who are they? They smell different.” A man in his seventies said as he approached from a gate that was just behind where we all stood. I'm guessing he's a werewolf. Well, they age, so that's one thing we share in common. “They are . . .uhm . . .witches," Jude let out, his voice shaking the whole time. I guess Jude wasn't sure how they would accept this. Without a doubt, I knew they weren't having many visitors lately. With the way things were, people were either with you or against you. “What do they want,” the man asked, acting like we weren't there. “They wish to speak with Shawn.” The man frowned at us. “What do they know about the Superior?” The Superior? That sounded sus. “They don't know anything about the Superior, they only want to speak with the leader of the werewolf.” The man grabbed Jude with one hand and flung him at the iron fence. The manner in which the man had picked Jude and thrown him at the fence scared me more than that he did it. It was almost too easy for him. “I knew it was a mistake allowing a goddamn human to know where we stayed," The man said, bringing out a pocket knife and then turning to us. “Now tell me why I shouldn't scrape your skin off your bodies.” Jude struggled to get back to his feet. “Shawn wouldn't approve of this—” Before Jude could complete his next sentence, the man slapped him hard across his face and he was back to the ground way quicker than he got up. “You all better start talking, I'm not a very patient man.” I stretched my hands out and he was raised four feet off the ground. I watched him as he struggled to get down. We all watched as he brought out his fangs and claws but he was only able to growl and scratch at the air. I could feel his power but it was nothing against my magic. “Now you are going to go tell your Superior or whatever you call him that we have to speak to him, it's of grave importance.” After saying that, I threw him over the fence, and we waited on the other side. The old man couldn't hide his anger and hate. He felt like tearing me apart and he wasn't even trying to hide it all. But that wasn't all I saw. I also saw fear and that was the refreshing bit. I almost felt sad that I used my magic on such an old man. Screw that. The man was a d*ck. “That was badas$, total badas$," Jude said, clearly in awe of me. Or my magic. Who cared? The cutie had those eyes on me. Fifteen minutes later, the man came back. Now he came with about three other men, all younger than him. “The Superior will see you now,” one of them said, watching us with utmost carefulness. “But not all of you, just one of you.” Nolan protested. ”There's no way only one of us is getting into—” The old man shook his head disapprovingly. “Either accept our terms or f*ck your way outta here or we will f*ck you out.” The old man sure had a foul mouth. No way this was someone's grandpa. It had to be me. I had to make sure the werewolves got on our side. I told my friends that I was going in and it was final. Nolan wasn't really happy but he couldn't stop me. “Just be safe,” Nolan said, letting go of my hands. As I was about to go through the gate, Tasha pulled me back and whispered in my ears. “If they act funny, rain hell on them.” “Roger that,” I replied. It took five more minutes of walking unusually fast before we got into the building where the Superior stayed. The werewolves still maintained a sense of normalcy as their homes were really styled. For a time like this, I think the Superior's living room was a little too furnished. For crying out loud, the world as we knew it was no more. Why have golden chandeliers and posh artworks hung on the walls when there were zombies all around the world. “I'm not going to waste any time. Who are you and why the hell are you bothering us?” The Superior was just some guy in his twenties. Uhm . . .I kinda expected some old man in a robe, instead, I saw some guy in khaki trousers and a sweatshirt. He had an attractive looking beard but he was average looking at best. Nothing compared to Jude or dare I say, the sexy vampire. “I'm here to tell you that we have to work together.” I explained to him why I needed the werewolves on our side and he barely interrupted me. I explained everything to him. The dream, the prophecy, the sword—everything. He kept quiet for a while and then he spoke. “You said your mother knew Theo Holland, that means she knew my father, Theo was my Dad. Too bad he is no more.” Theo Holland was this guy's father. “I accept your offer and look forward to working with you," Shawn said, flashing a polite smile at me. Wait? This was a little too easy, he almost needed no persuasion at all. “Really?” “Isn't that why you're here?” “Yeah, of course, but that was quick.” Shawn began to explain why he wasn't hesitant at all. He said he was very worried and he had almost sought the assistance of the vampires to stand against the demons. I shook my head in confusion. “But if you wanted the vampires’ help, why would you help us kill them? Why kill people you want to fight side by side with?" “I don't care about the vampires I hate them so much, they are vile beings.” He cleared his throat and continued. “But that isn't all, there has to be something in it for us as well.” “What exactly?" “You have to promise to help us take the demons down. We can never have peace if they are still a part of this world.” This was serious. Hella serious. Ending the vampires was crazy on its own but ending the demons felt impossible. It felt st*pid agreeing to such a deal. But I did it anyway. There was no other choice. “I agree but we take out the vampires first," I said. Shawn nodded in agreement. “But first, we have to test the weapons out to see whether they work or not.” “They work, it's magic, trust me when I tell you it kills vampires.” “Have you killed a vampire with it?” Shawn asked, shrugging at me. “No," I admitted. “Good, then we need to try it out first before we make any further plans.” I squinted my eyes at him. “How the hell are we going to get a vampire?” “I don't know, I guess it's time we started working together.”
