The Betrayal

She'll never know." Antonia heard the woman say. She gasped quietly and retreated deeper onto her office. "All she does is spend your money on useless items for herself," the woman continued. "She doesn't even have anything for herself. Matthew, she's using you. She's not the right woman for you.." "Mara, you might be right, but I'm more interested in getting you out of these clothes. She's not due back for a few hours." Antonia heard the woman giggle. Followed by the unmistakable sounds of them kissing. She was devastated but could not show her weakness. She waited until she heard them enter the bedroom before she made her move. It wasn't long before she heard moans and gasps of pleasure. She silently left the house, determined to get her revenge. She hastily made her way around the corner where a town car was waiting. She opened the door and made herself comfortable in the luxurious backseat. "Everything ok, Miss?" The driver asked. "Everything is fine, thank you. Please take me to Rosalee Jones’ home." The driver nodded and put the car in drive while Antonia started planning. The first thing she did was open her banking app. She logged onto the joint account she shared with Matthew. She noticed there were several transactions transferring large amounts of money to an unknown account. This was in addition to large purchases and hotel room rentals. She scoffed. "Who's spending his money on useless items now?" She thought to herself. She was broken from her thoughts when the driver turned and announced their arrival. She thanked him and got out of the car. "Antonia! What're you doing here?" She looked up at her friend in the doorway and managed a small smile. "I needed a friend and a good drink." "Of course," her friend said, looking slightly concerned. “What's on your mind?” Antonia was grateful for her friend's invitation and made her way into the house. Rosalee quickly brought out a bottle of rose and poured two glasses. Antonia made herself comfortable on the couch and sighed. "So, you want to tell me why you're here at noon on a Wednesday looking for wine?" Rosalee asked, sitting with her friend. "I was in my office, reviewing documents for an upcoming fundraiser. All of a sudden, the front door opens, and I hear this woman bashing me. She's saying I'm useless, a gold digger… the usual trash. But then I hear Matthew agreeing with her. Then he takes her into my bedroom, and the sounds they made speak for themselves." Tears started welling in her eyes. "I didn't know what to do, so I did nothing. But I looked at our account on my way over here. He's spending hundreds of thousands on affairs. I don't know what I want, but revenge is pretty high on the list." Rosalee looked furious. "That cheating a*shole. I'm so sorry. Whatever you want to do, I'm happy to help. Just say the words." "I want to divorce him. Without a doubt, that's first." "Yes, obviously. I'll call my brother and get that started." "But I want him to suffer. Me leaving him isn't going to hurt anything outside of his 'good guy' image." She rolled her eyes. "We'll get started on part one. Additional parts will follow." Rosalee assured her, sending her brother a text while they talked. Her phone pinged a response almost immediately. "Jared says he can have something drawn up in an hour. Do you want to stay here, or do you have other plans?" Antonia smiled. "They're not expecting me anytime soon. Let them have their fun. I think I'm going to pretend nothing's wrong, then I'll hand him the papers." Rosalee looked at her friend, "Toni, are you ok? I know this is huge. Antonia sighed. "I don't think I've fully processed it. We married right after I graduated. I'm 23, I'm not dead, I'll bounce back." Rosalee added, "You're amazing. You deserve better." Antonia smiled and sipped her wine as she thought about her relationship over the last five years. "He never took an interest in my hobbies or my life. I guess those should've been red flags. I don't even think he knows I finished college." Rosalee clicked her tongue. "That fool has no idea what a gem he's losing." Antonia opened her email, "I think it's time I started working." She said as she typed. Rosalee smiled. "Good for you. It's best to hit the ground running." A few hours later, the women had finished the wine and some trashy TV. Rosalee's brother had sent over the documents for Antonia to review with apologies for not delivering them himself. They looked great to her. Fifty percent of all assets, including the funds that had been spent on his lover and fifty percent of his retirement funds. He could have their marital home. She wanted nothing to do with it. The connections he'd made while running one of the top financial firms in the country were endless. She could divorce and never work again, but that wasn't happening. Her father had quickly responded to her email, happy that she was interested in joining his business. The position was hers when she was ready for it. Things were quickly looking up for Antonia. She called a car to pick her up. She planned a trip to the salon and the shops before heading home. Matthew was paying, so she invited Rosalee along, who gladly accepted. After a few hours of pampering, Antonia dropped Rosalee off at her home and headed back to Matthew, divorce papers neatly tucked into her purse. The car pulled up to her home, and she bid the driver a good night. She walked up the steps to the house and put on a happy smile. Keying the lock, she let herself in and cheerily said, “Matthew, I’m home.” Matthew turned to her from his seat on the couch and smiled. “Babe, you look amazing. Where have you been?” “Oh I was out and about with Rosalee. How was your day?” she leaned in and gave him a peck on the cheek. “It was uneventful as always. I just have to finalize our deal with Griffin Corporation. That has the potential to make us billionaires.” “That's nice, dear.” She said, leaving the room.
