***Kade***
Standing here, I look over the dead bodies, All rogues. Glancing down at the dead one lying at my feet, I had ripped his throat out; I watched as his blood pooled under his body. It had changed back to his human form. All that lay there now was a naked body,
"Beta Kade," Someone called out. Pulling my eyes from the body,y I looked over to see one of the warriors coming towards me as he dragged a scrawny man by his arm,
"Found this one running, trying to get back across the border." he tossed him down in front of me, His eyes looking at the bloody body next to him.
"Pl...Please." He shuddered as he turned his head away from his dead companion, "I...I will answer anything you ask,"
"Why did you cross onto our lands?" Not waiting. Im not a patient man to begin with,
"We, didnt mean to. We were looking for shelter."
I could smell how he was lying,
Bending slightly over so I could look right into his eye,
"I will give you one more chance. Then im going to snap your neck." I bared my teeth at him, making him flinch back, falling on his butt.
"Okay... Okay, " he held his hands up. We were to snag the Alpha pup."
Growls broke out at his words. I let out a low growl, telling them to stand down. I know they are going on instinct and protecting our ALphas hier, but I need answers,
"Why," I growled at him,
"They wanted to use it for leverage,"
"They? They who?"
He shook his head, "I do not know who they are. I never saw them,"
"Who?" I growled again.
"I dont know, I swear."
Lunging forward and twisting his head, I heard the snap as his body went limp. Letting go, the body dropped to the ground,
Looking at the one warrior, "Burn the bodies."
"Yes, Beta," he nodded, then grabbed a body as others started to drag them into a pile. Turning, I took off for the pack house; shifting before I stepped out in the yard, I found some shorts stuffed in the hole by the tree. Slipping them on, I stepped out, walking to the back side of the house,
"Leo," I called through the link.
"Yeah, Kade, everything alright? What happened with the rogues?"
"Their all dead, I have some information i need to talk to you about."
"Come to the office,"
Making my way through the house, I reached his office door. Giving it a quick knock, I heard him call to come in,
Kade." Lorrain greeted me. She sat on Leo's lap, holding their newborn in her arms,
The sight caused a slight pain in my chest. I quickly rubbed at it, forcing it to go away.
"Lor, Leo," I greeted them,
Taking a seat in front of his desk. Watching them two, the rogue's words rang in my head. My face must have shown something,
"Lor, Why dont you take Nico up and put him down? I will be up as soon as im done speaking with Kade." Leo told her,
She glanced between the two of us. As she let out a sigh, "Alright,"
"Thank you, love," He kissed her cheek, then softly kissed the baby's head. She got up,
My chest ached; again, I rubbed at it. I hated the pain.
"Kade," Lor touched my shoulder; as she passed,
"Good night, Lor," I tell her,
I waited for the click of the door,
"Spill. I can see by your face that it isn't good."
"It's not good, Leo." I took a deep breath because I knew this next part would make him flip.
"They were here for your pup." I blurted it out, no use in beating around the bush,
He didnt move. His face was blank, but I saw his eye twitch.
Bracing myself,
"THEY WERE WHAT?" He was out of his chair, pacing the room, huffing and puffing. His eyes were black as fur would sprout on his arm and disappear,
Most would be afraid of him. But I knew he wouldn't take his anger out on me; letting him pace and growl, I knew he would settle in a few minutes. So I just waited,
Once he was calm, he moved to stand at his desk.
"What did they all say?"
"Just that they were after Nico, the people who wanted him wanted him for leverage for something, but the rogue didnt know what for or who was behind the attack."
"And the rogue?"
"Dead,"
"What of the others?"
"Dead as well."
He moved to sit back down; His fingers laced to gather as he rested his chin on them. I could see he was deeply thinking.
"Leo, This attack dont make sense," I told him,
He looked up.
"What do you mean?"
"Well, one, it was a shitty attempt with only six rogues. I mean, How did they plan on getting into the pack house with only six rogues?"
"True," He murmured,
"Hell, our patrol could handle six alone without one of us there. what made these people think six was enough to take an Alpha pup from his own house?"
"I can see your point. I wonder if it was a trial run," He said as he leaned back.
"That could be. Maybe see how long it took for our patrol to be on them,"
He pinched his lips together.
"It could be a whole bunch of things. right down to where our patrols run; how many showed up."
"Maybe we should double the patrol, but they will hit us again. And since none of their men are returning, they must send new ones, hoping to get information brought back."
"Let's do that; I also want to put out some safety precautions. I do not want to give them any opens to hurt any members."
"We can hold a meeting tomorrow and inform the pack,"
"Good," He nodded, "Now on to another subject," His eyes find mine. I can see the pity in them.
I winced seeing his face. I knew what he was going to ask, and I was not ready to talk about it.
"Look, I know you dont want to talk about it. But Kade, it will help you. You cant keep it bottled up. It's not healthy for you."
I could hear the concern in his voice. I also know he is trying to help, letting out a sigh. My back ramroded.
"Leo, Im not ready. I understand you are trying to help, and I do. Thank you. But I need to deal with this in my own way."
"Kade, it's been three months,"
Biting down my anger, I know its been three months, Dont he think i know that. I live with the pain every dam day,
"Dont you think I know that." I sniped at him,
His hand comes up,
"I dont mean that, Kade. Of course, you know it. I want you to talk about it. I can see it is eating at you."
Shrugging, "There's nothing to talk about," Dropping my eyes to the floor As the same burning pain rips through my chest.
"Kade, Your mate cheated and rejected you; how can you say there is nothing to discuss."
When I dont say anything, he starts again.
"We are worried about you. It's not like you and Tess were a new couple; you guys have been together since you turned eighteen. I know it hurt you when she did that,"
My wolf whimpered in my head. He missed his mate. She broke him as much as she broke me; the familiar pain surfaced. My mind replayed that day, the day I found her with her lover, the day she rejected me and walked out of my life.
