Dr. Brown

Kate I woke up well rested for the first time in the last few months. I blinked a few and felt afraid when I couldn't spot Dean in the room. I sat up quickly and chuckled at my own silliness. "The death showed you some kindness and you immediately search for him... Pathetic." - I thought but I heard a soft meowing sound. I took a glance towards the chair next to my bed and saw Dean in his cat form, sitting on the lap of a middle-aged woman. She caressed the back of Grim's neck and he purred happily like a cat should. When he noticed that I woke up he jumped out of her lap and crawled into mine. The woman brushed the cat hair off of her clothes and stood up. She wore a two piece costume and her brown hair was in a tight bun on top of her head. - Hello Miss Anderson, my name is Dr. Samantha Brown. I came to listen to your story and to check up your mental health state. - What if I don't want to? - I asked and she smiled softly. - I know this is difficult to talk about and that the situation is quiet scary, but I'm here because I want to help you to get better. - I feel alright. I don't need your evaluation. In fact, I want to leave the hospital. - she shook her head. - I'm sorry, but since you are still underaged you can't leave the hospital without one of your guardians. But since the doctors found a few scars that are concerning, your guardians cannot enter to this room until I made sure that they have nothing to do with what happened to you earlier today. - I felt defeated. I wanted to flee away, I wanted to disappear. It was so nice to float in the nothing before I landed in the place Dean called Abyss. - What would happen if you find my living place unsettling for me? - I asked, because I wanted to know what were my options. Dr Brown pulled her thick, black glasses up on her nose while Grim purred under my touch and licked my hand. - In case that happens, we will search for another foster home for you, until further investigations. - I looked at the cat in my hands and heard Dean's voice. - Tell her what you told me. She'll help. - I sighed. I didn't trust this woman and was afraid that my parents will find me again. Also, my head hurt because of the drugs wearing off. My hands trembled a bit and my throat got dry. - Fine, but can you please give me some water first? - I asked and she nodded. Dr. Brown walked out to bring some water and I looked around to see if there was any kind of painkiller around, but only the infusion was dripping slowly without any medication in it. My hands were still tied and I groaned in frustration. Dean stood next to me and caressed my face. - Kate, calm down. - You don't understand! I'm in pain! I need medicine! - I said desperately and my voice broke. Dean kneeled next to my bed and I started to cry. - I'm afraid and I'm in pain. Can't you take me away please? - he held my hand and kissed it. - You'll get better, I'm here to help. - the door opened and Grim jumped onto my lap. Dr Brown gave me a cup of water and took the seat next to my bed. - Take your time Kate, we are not in hurry. - she said in a low and patiently. Grim climbed under my chin and rubbed against my chest purring calmly. - I had a few very bad years and it hurts. - I said but the words left my mouth slowly and without any strength. It was so much easier to speak to Dean. - I see, would you like to tell me what happened that made those years bad? - she asked kindly and I couldn't speak. We remained silent for a while before the Dr. said. - Can you tell me about your scars? Who did them to you? - she asked and our eyes met. - By the way, your eyes are beautiful. - she said with a warm smile. - They are hideous. - Who told you that? - My parents and my ex boyfriend. They said... That... Only a biological mistake could have eyes like these. - Well, everyone has their right to their opinion, but they are wrong. Your eyes are unique and very beautiful. - I smiled slightly at her and heard Dean's voice in my mind *They are gorgeous.* - My parents were the ones who made those scars. I had a serious accident two years ago, and I got medication for the pain. But... The pain increased with time and the medication wasn't effective anymore. I couldn't swim and didn't earn money, my parents got angry and hurt me. - Once I started to speak, my words didn't stop at all. I had no control over my actions anymore. Dr. Brown only listened and once I stopped speaking she gave me a tissue to wipe my tears off. Grim was licking my face to clean it from my tears and I chuckled as his tongue tickled me. - Kate, I'll tell you what is going to happen. The police will investigate your accident, also the scars and what happened today. Until they conclude their investigations, you'll be living with a foster family, they have a son around your age who have been through similar things. I hope he is going to be able to help you. Also, you'll have to go to a sanatorium first, there they will help you with your addiction. Your journey just begun. I will visit you frequently as well and help you too. Be proud of yourself because you were able to open up and tell me all this. It needs a huge bravery to tell a stranger about your most hidden secrets. I'll go and talk with the police and your doctors, please try to rest a bit more. It was really nice to meet you Kate and see you soon! - she said leaving the room. Dean turned into a human and rested his head on my shoulder still laying next to me in bed. - Do you see Gingersnaps? You are already getting better. - I caressed his head with a trembling hand and inhaled the calming scent that lingered around him. - I'll see once it comes true. I'm afraid of the pain that I'll experience in the sanatorium, and who knows what that family is hiding. - Dean giggled and lifted his head to look into my eyes. - Oh, I wouldn't worry because of them!
