Donna
I kissed Grim while I took his car keys from his pocket after we finished our breakfast.
- See you later my love! - I said and he just smiled softly with the same adoration in his eyes I've seen the first time we met. While I was still a human, I always dreamed of a never ending love, and despite the fact that my first marriage was perfect on paper, we still had our differences with my late husband. Grim was different, being his wife and Dean's mother was exactly what a woman could dream of while she reads the typical romance stories.
- Where are you two going? - Dean asked as he saw Kate getting ready to leave. She looked a bit uncertain and avoided his glance. I chuckled at their adorable shyness at moments like this. I hugged Kate over her shoulder and winked at Dean.
- That's our little secret! - I gently pushed her towards the door and Dean got up.
- Take me with you too! - he said and I glanced back after hearing a loud bumping sound. I saw Grim's hand on our son's shoulder who, due to some miraculous ways, was sitting on his chair again. With a wide grin on his face Grim waved to me with his free hand.
- Have fun ladies! - I blew a kiss to them and left holding Kate's hand.
- Let's go! - she followed me without hesitation and after we jumped into the car, I turned to the excited Kate.
- Where are we going first? - she asked as I drove to the highway.
- Well, first of all, we will visit a friend of mine, who can help you to find your style, after that we will go shopping and stop for a nice lunch. Before we come home we will stop at a spa and my favourite cosmetics store! - Kate blushed looking at her fingers. She played with them nervously and I held her hands with one of mine, keeping the other on the steering wheel.
- Anytime if you feel that it's too much or you don't like something, just say it. This day is about us! No need to please me by doing what I planned. I want to get you out of your shell, but it won't happen if you feel forced. So let's have some fun together! - Kate smiled at me still nervous.
- Can't I just copy how you dress and act? - she asked. I took a quick glance at myself. I was wearing a silky, cream colored dress, with a long slice on the right leg, thick strips on the shoulders. I put my favourite black high heels on, with their unmistakable red bottom, a matching hat and bag. I simply put some rouge red lipstick on and mascara.
- Why would you do that? - I asked after evaluating my outfit.
- You look so gorgeous and confident. - I chuckled.
- First of all thank you! But please don't forget, I've lived a full life already, not to mention the decades I spent with Grim before Dean was born. Confidence comes from experience! If you are aware of your attributes and qualities as a human being, you work hard on your capabilities to master them, only then your confidence have any base. Without experience, confidence is simply your egoism, and those people sooner or later, gonna hit their ankles. Believe me, by dressing like me, or putting the same shade of lipstick on, you won't get the results your heart desires. - Kate sighed.
- It would be so much easier that way... - she mumbled and I caressed her hair.
- Indeed, but then, what would be the worth of confidence? If everyone was confident, no one would really be. - We arrived to my friend's house and I parked the car in front of her home. Kate got out and followed me as I approached the simple white building, with it's flat, black roof it looked like a cube. I rang the bell and soon a goofy looking, colorfully dressed woman opened it with a squeak.
- DONNA?! NO WAY! - she threw herself at me and hugged me strongly.
- I'm happy to see you too Jolene! She is my son's friend, and my adopted daughter Kate. - I introduced her and Kate's jaw dropped seeing Jolene.
- Wow! So nice to meet you! - she shook Kate's hand, but the youngster just stared in awe. I gave her a gentle push and walked in. I understood Kate's amazement. Jolene is and was always an icon. She had a perfectly waved, platinum blonde hair in a short cut like Marilyn Monroe's. Despite the chaotic colors of her dress, they somehow made sense, highlighting Jolene's long legs, air thin waist and voluptuous chests.
- Tale a seat! I'll bring some refreshments! - she said and skipped to her cottage style kitchen. Kate hopped on the white couch and I sat next to her. As we watched Jolene twirl around her kitchen like a tornado of chuckles, Kate turned to me.
- How is this possible?
- What do you mean? - I asked and Kate's eyes widened even more as she started to explain.
- She looks like the love child of Jessica Rabbit and Marilyn Monroe, yet she acts like a Minion... - I felt my face distorting and I bend over laughing at the perfect description of my friend. Her head appeared from over the kitchen counter and asked.
- What's so funny? - I finally stopped laughing and wiped my tears off.
- Nothing Jolene, Kate just described you the perfect way! - I told Jolene what Kate said and while Kate blushed with embarrassment, Jolene laughed and scribbled the description of herself into a notebook.
- You are right Donna, this one was the most accurate in the past century! - Kate's blush disappeared and she looked now pale.
- Are you someone like Bob? - I asked and Jolene waved happily.
- Oh my sweet Bob! He always says he'll pop in but never does. So many regrets seriously! But yeah sweety! I'm a creature like Bob! See, I used to be a fashion designer, and lived only for my job, but never managed to enjoy my life the fullest, because I was always envious of something my models had. So I went a little overboard with plastic surgeries and well kicked the bucket! - I saw in Kate's eyes that it was hard to digest how such a cheerful person could've done something so insane.
- What happened after that? - she asked abd Jolene sipped some of her mock tail she prepared for all of us. She crossed her long legs and pointed at me with her red nails.
- Donna happened sweety pie! When it was my time to pass to the other side, I saw her by Grim's side. She looked stunning and naturally beautiful. Grim allowed me one question before sending my soul away. I turned to Donna and asked "What she modified to have such a perfect appearance?". - Jolene smiled kindly recalling our first memory.
- She said nothing. I got furious at her, claiming that no one can be this perfect, that was when she started to pinpoint her "flaws" every flaw of Donna was something I wanted. That's when she made me understand, that I shouldn't had been so jealous of others, to this extent, but to find those flaws on me others could've killed for.
- I see... But Bob is Regret, so who are you? - Jolene bowed dramatically.
- Jealousy at your service!
- How would jealousy help me to find my style? - Kate asked and I chuckled.
- Didn't you pay attention? She sees what is the most gorgeous about you, those flaws other would kill for! - Kate's eyes widened in surprise and Jolene clapped her hands together.
- Exactly! Just to begin with those eyes girl! Oh my dear creator! They are so freaking unique! Also, red hair is very trendy these days, but there's no hairdresser on this world who could dye someone's hair to look like yours! And those freckles! Girls of your age are tattooing them on their skin of using cosmetics to create something you naturally have! - she moved her hand a huge mirror appeared in front of Kate. Jolene pulled her up and pointed at her slim figure.
- Like a model! - Kate blushed.
- But I have small boobs... - she admitted and Jolene pointed at her huge plastic t**s.
- But they are real! Would you rather have balloons like this? - Kate laughed and I laid back on the sofa watching Jolene showing Kate her real beauty.
- What do you want? - Jolene suddenly asked and Kate looked at me.
- I want to be hot like Donna. - Jolene chuckled.
- You could, but why wouldn't you try to be hot like Kate?
