Jay-la POV
Jay-la walked over and sank down on a chair in the 3rd floor coffee hub. She saw the triplets coming, knew they had wanted to go and build a snowman, so had let them go off with Rae-Rae and Michael. They seemed to like Michael, she noticed. Though none of them had seen him in the apartment that night.
He’d only nodded his head at her and said nothing, had not spoken to her since she’d been marked and mated, was now the Luna. Stayed away from her mostly. It was a curiosity, she now out ranked him, and she knew that was why.
Jackson and Stephen strolled along behind the triplets, as did Michael and Rae-Rae. Both her girls were smiling and laughing, but Nate looked annoyed. “Luna, would the children like hot chocolate?”
Jay-la’s eyes moved to the omega running the coffee hub. She was not yet used to being called the Luna, but nodded “Thank you, Amelia, that would be lovely.” She smiled up at her, a fair-haired, fair-skinned girl, who was still unmarked, had pretty light blue eyes but was a tiny thing barely 5 feet tall. When she did find her mate, he was going to tower over her.
The one bright side of coming home was that she still knew everyone, and they all knew who she was. Also, they all seemed happy to have her back. It was a little weird considering she’d been banished, and it was likely the whole pack knew why.
But not once had anyone brought it up, well not in earshot of her. She’d also not heard anything about her having their Alpha’s children, while she was not here. Seemed they were all just happy to have her here and as their Luna. It made her very curious about Sophia. She’d heard from Nathan himself about her lack of Luna qualities, but that was all she knew.
Perhaps the pack had not liked her either. She did not know.
She watched as Rae-Rae sat down when Michael pulled out a chair for her and then leaned down and kissed her softly. “I have to go back to work. Or I’ll get in trouble.” He murmured to her.
Jay-la frowned at that, frowned right at him when his eyes met hers a moment later. “Why?” she asked him.
‘Punishment for threatening you.’ He mind-linked to her, but out loud stated “My behaviour was uncalled-for, so one week of solid work it is.”
She raised an eyebrow at him, and wondered 'why even bother?' That wasn’t really a punishment at all. Work for a solid week, shouldn’t that just be a normal thing he would do? “I wouldn’t call that punishment.” She commented and saw his eyes snap right to hers.
They were wide, and she actually saw a bit of fear in them, before he turned and hurried away from her, frowned and looked right up at Jackson, “What was that all about?”
“Hm, probably worried you’ll state those very words to Nathan.” He half smiled.
“Why?”
She watched his mouth form into a full smile now, and felt him connect a mind-link to her, ‘Because if the Luna doesn’t think that his punishment is appropriate. It's likely, the Alpha will instate something else much harsher. Considering he’s being punished for threatening you.’
‘Work is not punishment, Jackson.’ She shrugged.
‘It is if it keeps him away from his Mate, from 7am to 7pm, only allowed to see Rae-Rae on his designated breaks.’
Jay-la shook her head and stated out loud “Work is not punishment, he should be at work on any normal given day.”
Saw Jackson raise an eyebrow at her now, “Would you like me to tell the boss your opinion?" he asked.
Looked from him to Rae-Rae and sighed “No.” the girl was here to spend time with her Mate, not that she knew that was what he was and realized she wasn’t getting to do that. “Seems to me, like Rae-Rae is getting the raw end of that deal. She came here to spend time with Michael and is not being allowed to do so.”
“I would like to spend more time with him.” Rae-Rae sighed “I thought it would be more than an hour here or there.”
Jay-la looked right at Jackson, mind-linked to him ‘I think Rae-Rae is the one being punished, not Michael. Resolve that.’
‘Yes Luna.’ His voice came back to hers, sounded fully amused ‘Stephen needs your help with something Jay-la.’ Then he disconnected the link and walked away.
“What can I do for you Stephen?” she asked, turning her eyes right on him. He looked so very tired, she realized.
“You’re a lot to handle Jay-la. I’m tired to be honest. So I thought, to help you out and for the triplets as well, you could use some assistance. Put that call into your nanny, and she could come here and help look after them, while you're busy with the other duties you’ll be required to do.”
“Suzzy you mean,” she corrected him, knew already he wanted her to call Suzzy.
“Yes.” he nodded.
She looked right at him with narrowed eyes, she was a lot to handle? He was tired. What would a nanny do to help that? “Really, I’m a lot to handle. You just want Suzzy here at Browning Corporation?”
“I think it would be good for all, not just you, but also the children, to give them something familiar in these new surroundings for them as well.” He nodded.
“I’ll do it.” Rae-Rae smiled at her “I’m not doing anything else.”
“Look, problem solved on the nanny front.” Jay-la smiled at him, knew it would annoy him for her to agree, with Rae-Rae looking after the triplets.
She saw him actually glare at Rae-Rae and then just get up and leave.
‘Stephen.’ She mind-linked to him ‘Suzzy?’
‘Forget it.’ He muttered.
‘Why would I? She is your Mate. I love Suzzy, so do the triplets. I would be happy to have her here. As much as Rae-Rae is here. I will call her today.’
Saw him stop walking and stand there for a good fifteen seconds, then turned and looked right at her. Keeping his words correct to the human sitting at her table said “I would like the opportunity to date Suzzy, the boss approves it as well, just so you know, bringing her here is fine.”
Jay-la nodded “I’ll call her…though, this close to Christmas, I can’t guarantee she will come, is big on family.” She told him honestly, the woman never worked over Christmas always spent it with her family.
“I’d appreciate you offering to retain her current job, just here instead of there.”
“Alright.” She smiled at him “Was that so hard?”
“Yes,” he muttered, “I never know what I will get from you.” He stated and then turned and walked away.
She frowned at that remark, as she watched him walk off. It was an odd statement, but shook it off. She turned her attention to the children, all now drinking their hot chocolates. She could see they had all been given extra marsh mellows. Watched as they stirred them into the hot chocolate and were letting them all melt and become a sticky gooey melted mass of pink and white on the top, just like she always did. Smiled at them.
“I’ll try and sort out more time for you and Michael, Rae-Rae.”
“His brother is working him 12 hours a day, how am I supposed to spend time with him? I don’t even know what he did. Or why he is letting his brother dictate what he’s allowed to do and not allowed to do.” Shook her head.
Jay-la nodded “His brother runs the family business and everyone here works for him. Including Michael. So doing what his brother tells him to, isn’t really it. He is doing what his boss is telling him to do.”
“Then how can you help that?”
“A good question, I guess now that I’ve agreed to be in a relationship with Nathan. I’m kind of like the second in charge. I get a say I guess.”
“What? How does that work? And what about your job in L.A.?”
“Difficult it will be, and I can tell you Eric is not happy with me, though here I can work freely on your prenup, while we’re all snowed in.”
“Probably a good idea. Or Grandpa will have his stuffy lawyers start on it.” she frowned.
“I’ll start working on it this evening then, after dinner and these little ones are tucked up in bed.” she turned to look outside “It’s stopped snowing for the moment. Why don’t we take a walk after they finish their drinks. I’ll show you around before it starts snowing again, seeing as Michael can’t.”
“That would be nice.” She smiled.
“Let these little monsters of mine see what’s here as well.” She smiled down at them and saw both girls poke their tongues out at her. Nate just looked at her, she reached out and brushed a hand through his hair. “It’s new, I know. Will take some time getting used to.”
He nodded. “He won’t answer my question.”
Jay-la sighed, she knew which one. “Give it a few more days, he’s new to being a dad. Not used to it himself, an adjustment for both of you.”
Again, that nod from him. She and Kora were both pretty sure the boy was going to grow up and be a lawyer, he always wanted answers to his questions. Dug his heels in real good till he got those answers. Would likely make for a very good prosecutor one day. Not that there was any call for that in the wolfen world. But he could if he so wanted to hold down a real human world job. There was a law firm attached to this pack. Some human dealings were done by it.
She sat there and chatted with Rae-Rae about the local universities. She was curious. Jay-la told her of the two closest to the pack, and Rae-Rae laughed softly “I can stay on campus, it doesn’t need to be right here.”
“You say that now, Rae-Rae, but once you’re married…”
“Oh, I guess I didn’t think about that.”
“You could always do online study. You’re doing your Bachelor of Arts, right?”
“Yes.” She nodded “but I like being on campus. I like the social aspect of it.”
“I know,” once marked and mated and brought into this pack, she’d have plenty to socialize with, “Has Michael introduced you to his social group yet? I’m certain it was quite big.”
“A couple of people. I got a bit intimidated, and he walked me away. They’re like huge men.”
“Hmm, you’ll find most here are, they all work out religiously, you’ll get used to it. It won’t take you long. You’ll find they’ll warm up to you quickly once you marry him.”
