“Come home? Mom, I'm busy right now.” Lily explained, angered that her mom was ruining her fun. Ever since her sister, Amy, got divorced, she had been singing around the house, showing her excitement to the world. Indeed, Amy deserved what she got. What she couldn't understand was why Amy hadn't returned home. If she was really kicked out of the Sullivan family, there was nowhere for her to go. Where then was she staying? With a man? “Lily, come home this instant!” a loud and authoritative voice was heard, interrupting her train of thoughts. This time, it wasn't her mother's but her dad's. Lily's back stiffened as she wondered why she was suddenly being asked to come home. Left with no choice, she hung up and placed her phone in her purse. Forcing a smile on her face, she turned to her friends and said, “I have to go now. Duty calls. As someone who isn't as idle as my sister, I need to be up and doing. Soon, I'll join my father's entertainment industry.” her voice was soft and seductive, one that could charm a man's heart. Her friends nodded, “Sure, Lily. We can try this again next time. We understand your tight schedule.” They responded. Hearing her friend's word, her face lit up as she turned around to leave. However, she was still quite bothered by the call. Why did her parents call her with such urgency? Bothered by the call, she entered her car and Instructed the driver to speed towards their home. Upon getting home, she carried a few bags she had bought from the mall and dashed inside. Stepping in, she found her mother sitting next to her father, trying to comfort him with her words. Lily furrowed her brows, confused by the gloomy expression on their faces. Before she left, her father, Jason, had been in a good mood because of a contract he just signed with the Triumph Entertainment. Why then was he in this sullen mood? “Dad” she whispered, dropping her newly shopped bags on the couch. She walked closer and stood right next to him, “Dad, what's wrong?” Jason sighed, raising his head to stare at the things Lily just bought. Seeing the expensive bags and dresses, Jason's eyes blazed with anger. “You unfilial child!” he spat, “Is this all you can do with money? Squander it and waste it on unnecessary things?” he snapped, his gaze fixed on his daughter. Lily took a step backwards, frightened for a few seconds. “Dad, what do you mean?” she began, “You've never cared about the things I buy. Why are you starting to do so now?” she asked, taken aback by his question. Hearing the way Lily had spoken to her father, Jane hurriedly pulled her aside, “Lily! Don't talk that way.” she scolded, throwing her in an even more confused state. “Then tell me what's going on!” she yelled, frustrated by their gloomy expression. “We have to cut down on our spending for a few weeks. I'll get back on my feet within that period.” Jason stated before getting up to leave for his study. However, Lily rushed to stand in front of him. “Father, what are you saying? Cut down on our spending for a few weeks? That would kill me!” she spat, not willing to understand her father's words. Presently, Lily had spent almost all she had. She had an event coming up in a few days time; and shopping was a necessity. She had wanted to coax her father into giving her more money but here he was, feeding her with some c**k and bull stories. Jason clenched his fists by his sides, controlling the urge not to slap the blonde standing right in front of him. Lily's green eyes burned with intensity as she stared at her father, demanding an explanation. Unwilling to contain his rage, Jason raised his hands and smacked Lily's face, making her stagger to the back. Jane gasped, rushing towards her daughter whose eyes were teary. “Jason, what have you done!” she yelled as she stared at Lily's red cheeks. “This could leave a scar on her precious face. She's still pursuing her acting career! Don't be so cruel!” “I've lost the contract with Triumph Entertainment for no reason, costing me millions of dollars, and Lily, all you care about is yourself! Are you even my daughter? How could you be so cruel?” he asked, his voice laced with pain. Just like the usual routine, he had gone to his office for work only to be shocked by the news his assistant had given him. For several hours, he had tried to contact the Triumph Entertainment to have a meeting with the Chairman of the company, but they kept on saying he was busy. Although the entertainment company would have lost quite some amount of money but they didn't seem to care. Triumph Entertainment wasn't one to make a fuss over a few million dollars. Although Jason would get back on his feet, it would just take a while to cover the losses. It would slightly affect his company. He sighed as he stared at Lily and his wife, “You only care about money, both of you.” Jason stated as he walked away, not interested in continuing the conversation. Lily bit her lips as she watched her father ascend the stairs. With her hands on her cheeks, she fell to her knees and wailed, heartbroken by her father's words. This was the first time her father, Jason, would talk to her that way. It was also the first time he would raise his hands on her. “Mom, why’s dad so cruel?” she choked, her cheeks stinging in pain, “What ..what if this leaves a scar? It would ruin my career?” she continued. Jane watched her daughter wine and pulled her up,”It's okay Lily.” she said, wiping her tears with her hands, “Your father is just in a bad mood, and this” she whispered, tracing the reddened skin with her fingers, making Lily flinch in pain, “Don't worry, it won't leave a scar.” “Then my event. Mom, I really have to attend this event.” Lily said eagerly, wanting to make her mother understand, “There I could get to meet famous and popular actresses. I could strike a conversation with them and talk with a few directors from the Triumph Entertainment. I really want to be signed under them.” she exclaimed excitedly. “But I'll work hard and get under Dad's first. With Dad, it shouldn't be hard to get in there.” Jane nodded in understanding, “Yes, you'll attend the event.” she concluded, “Then you'll need a new dress and a stylist. We can hire someone that wouldn't charge us too much.” Jane suggested, getting Lily all riled up. “Mother, I can't use cheap things. My friends would mock me. I'm the daughter of the Chairman of the Risen star Entertainment. Why can't I afford an expensive dress and a better stylist?” she argued. Jane pressed her lips in a thin line, “Then let's call Amy. She must have stolen a lot from the Sullivan family before poisoning that old man.” she suggested, bringing a smile on Lily's face. “Perfect idea, mom. What if she refuses to send anything?” “Then we'll sell the most valuable object she has. The diamond necklace her mother left for her.”
