She found a stray cat at an old abandoned house beside her estate, the next day, she took food, an old blanket and an unused box to make a home for the cat. She came home to tell her mother, that more cats are added and that she needed to get more cat foods. Her mother told her that other stray cats will keep coming but she didn't listen. And kept sending them food, she was that kind. Even, when she was bitten by one of the stray cats, she still went back the next day to them. One of their neighbours, had to call animal shelter, which came and picked up all the stray animals. Sophia cried for weeks until her father bought a cat for her. The residents of the Garden estate is a close knitted one. They knew each other families, businesses and run the same social circle, in fact, their children attends the same top elite schools. One can say, that she was rated among the top richest families in Z country. But she is humble and not proud like her other friends, whose families are not as rich or respected as her family. When she just five years old, her brought home, a girl, the same age as her, she was to live with them because her father, who was her uncle had passed away, and her mother, had took all that her husband left, abandoned her child and ran away with her lover. She had told a five year old girl, that it was her fault that her had died. She had called Sophia's father and left instructions on how to get Mia back, in fact, she also took some money from him. He had to pay and brought his niece home. He promised his brother, on his dying bed, that he would take care of his daughter. Sophia's parents intends to keep their promise, and they begged Sophia to treat her as a sister too. Sophia loved her parents, so she took her vows seriously and they both grew together, under one house and grated equally by the winters. Sophia loves going everywhere with her cousin, she likes introducing her as her sister to anyone that ask and she doesn't take her for granted. In high school, Sophia and Mia grew to be the best of friends. Everyone knew that Mia hated Sophia, although, she likes pretending in Sophia's presence. Sophia treated her as though, she was her blood siblings without bias and told her friends to treat Mia with the respect accorded to her. At school, Sophia’s teacher sings her praise. She does well academically and had taken her school to so many competitions where they have emerged the first and the best. She was a well rounded student who excelled in anything she puts her mind on. It was her sophomore year, in high school when Sebastian Groves, transferred to her school. The moment she first saw him, she had a dislike for him. She hadn't spoken to him but she knew that he would be a thorn in her flesh. And she was surprised at the end of the term, when she found out that she had a 99.5% while he had a 96%. Thus began, the battle and tussle of firsts. Sophia, at first, felt weird, she has always been in limelight, no matter how much, she claims, she hated being popular, she still loves the attention, but now, the attention had been shifted, no, more been divided and she is not sure that the bigger percentage is on her. Mia didn't help matter, by shoving the existence of the new boy in her face. She would always hatch plans on her to mess up with him, but Sophia told her that she is confident in herself and can't bring herself low to do anything against her consciousness. Mia still went ahead, to play pranks on the new boy, without Sophia's permission and that escalated the rivalry between them. With his head bent as he was finishing up a book, he started yesterday, he mistakenly bumped into Sophia who was running to her lockers to grab her books for the day. Apologising, he stretched his hands to help Sophia up, but she avoided his hands, stood up herself and told him, that she was fine, before he could say anything else, she was gone. Sebastian was shocked, because that was the first time, she has spoken to him. She always behave indifferent to him and he wondered always if he unintentionally hurt her. He thought but couldn't arrive to any sensible conclusion. If anything, he should be the one behaving indifferent to her, seeing as her posse always torment and try to bully him, but they can't bring him down. He couldn't confront Sophia, he always try to avoid confrontations, if possible and he knew anyway, that Sophia didn't know what was happening. He hasn't spoken to her before, but he knew that Sophia is not the type to be mean or play dirty. She is someone that takes pride in herself and her abilities and he knew that if Sophia finds out what her wannabe friends were doing, that she would feel hurt, that was why he could tell her, for the life of him, he doesn't want to see that smiley beautiful face with frowns, if anything, he wants her tin always be happy and smiling every day. He stood and asked himself if he was normal. How can he fancy a girl that hates his guts? How can wants to see her face again? The sound of the bell brought him out of his thoughts, as he realised that, that was the final warning bell. Sebastian got home and saw his father at home, these days, his father comes home early and that makes him happy. He went to his father's study, knocked and entered, his father looked up, from his papers, and asked ‘how was school today?’ ‘Fine’, he answered. ‘Your mother told me you have a crush, his father continued, when am I meeting her?’ Sebastian was shocked, its that what he was feeling? It couldn't be. His father looked at his son and smiled, he was joking about the crush, but his son's face and silent said it all, his blushing and stuttering, trying to deny it, was cute, his father thought.. He thought about Sophia's dress today, how, her skirt was perfect on her, he couldn't help the smile that graced his face, his father couldn't help laughing out loud.
