Sebastian ran away from his father's study to his room, he was embarrassed and he didn't remember telling his mother about having a crush on any girl, he only told her about Sophia's indifference and how it make him feel. Was that what his mother, concluded form the whole situation?
Sebastian wondered why every girl in school except Sophia winters wants to be his friends. He is handsome, his family is rich, he is in the basketball club, tennis club and soccer team. It was his promise to his grandmother, that he was going to participate in all the sports his late grandfather participated on while in high school. His grandfather was an NBA star, but none of his children took his footsteps.
Sebastian’s father has been into businesses and that's what Sebastian saw himself doing in the future. Whenever, he went to pay his grandparents a visit, his grandpa, always wants to play with him, so he became good in all sports. His interest and love for sports grew but not as much as taking away business from him. He never wanted to build a career on sports anyway, and he told his grandfather such.
His grandfather is already satisfied with him playing in his school team, unlike his son, Sebastian’s father, who avoided any sports like a plague while in school. He was thankful, that his grandson, even gave it a thought, and that was enough for him.
People in school thought he wants to be popular, he hates crowds and crowded areas. He avoided eating with the soccer team players, and they said he was pompous, arrogant and full of himself because the coach made him co-captain with Andrew Williams, the school sweetheart, who also happened to be Sophia's boyfriend. How could this be? His father will laugh his head off, if he told him that his crush already had a boyfriend. Anyway, its just a crush, he is not hurting anyone, and Sophia might not even speak to him again until graduation.
Sebastian woke up with a start, he checked his watch and saw it was already past midnight. He couldn't believe that the thought of Sophia was clouding his mind. He couldn't sleep back anyway, so he decided to finish up his homework and maybe, do some more reading.
He prepared early for school, the next day, he had a plan, he was going to make friends with Sophia, or he could die trying. He would apologise if he offended her, but he wants to be close to her, maybe be friends with her, that way, he won't have to think about her, that way his parents will know that he is not having a crushing on her. Having decided, on what to do, he left home with smiles and a light heart.
Getting to school, Sophia has already decided that she was going to take her Nana’s advice. She felt like she needs to let Sebastian know that she had nothing against her. Yesterday, she learnt that Mia, had been causing him trouble, playing pranks on him and bully him with her other friends, and that it has been going on for long. She had approached Mia, who started crying apologising that she was doing it for her sake. She had looked at her teary eyes and got softened. She had promised herself to make sure Mia doesn't cry, and now she was the one inflicting pain on her. She told Mia that she is still angry because she didn't listen to her, what if, Sebastian has decided to retaliate back and she got hurt herself. She made Mia promise not act on her own again.
Mia was so angry at Sophia for scolding her, like she was some kid, she promised herself that she was going to treat Sophia the way, she treats her, she would take away everything from her, and make people hate her.
Sophia felt that it was her fault to begin with, if she hadn't crrated the rivalry atmosphere then, Mia wouldn't put herself in danger. What is it about this new boy that she couldn't accept? He wasn't the first person to join their school in the middle of a school year. What had made him special?
She couldn't give answers to any of her questions, so she decided that it now or never. She was going to apologize and start treating him, the way she treats others, they wouldn't be best friends, but the invisible line will be cleared, so that the kids t school would stop bullying him.
If there's anything, Sophia can't stand, it's bullying, she did her best to stopt from their school, and it wouldn't start again because of her, especially, now, that they almost seniors.
Sebastia was a good rival and a respected one, she has come accept that he is worth being her rival in the entire school. It took guts to get there, and she had made peace with herself. If she hadnt been childish about this, nothing like this would have happened and Sebastian would have enjoyed his high school days. But because of her indifferent towards him, they thought that she was envious of him, so she sent her friends to bully him. With that in her mind, she decided, that she would meet him during lunch, so that they could talk.
Sebastian and Sophia were also members of the debate club. The principal called them into her office to tell them that a student will be selected amongst them to represent their school in their country. And whoever, won will be made the president, of the student council. Sophia felt that this was, the kind of thing, that made him dislike Sebastian. If he wasn't here, in her school, there will be no other options but her. She had always wanted to be the president of her school’s student council but now with the presence of Sebastian,It became a seat that has to fought for.
Sebastian didn't know the way forward anymore, they way, Sophia looked at her, like she wants to kill in several pieces, pierced his heart. How do he from here? How can he speak to Sophia now, especially, after that announcement. He wanted to drop out of the race, but he knew that Sophia will take that as an insult.
In as much as she hates him,(no, hate is such as strong word, her Nana would definitely disagree) so, 'she dislike him', for ruining everything, she would never stoop low to let him drop out, she was crazy like that, and he liked him for that.
He knew that he has to find a way to make peace with her. Yes, her cousin, Mia came to apologize, even though, he knew she was forced to do so by her cousin. He knew from the beginning that Sophia would not tolerate that. He just wished that Mia would have at least a quarter of Sophia's brain and beauty, maybe, then she would know that Sophia doesn't need people to fight her battle for her.
He wanted to meet Sophia immediately they left the principals office, in fact, he waited for her to come out because the principal told her to hold on.
But when she came out, her face was not smiling, he doesn't know if it was because of him, the news or both. Sophia waited to hear what he has to say, as he opened his mouth and closed, with words refusing to form, Sophia looked at him, in the eyes and with a cynical smile and said, ‘let the best man win’ and with that she walked away, briskly and immaculately without looking back.
He didn't know how long he stood thinking about her, but the loud sound of the school bell brought him out of his daydream.
Picking up his books and bag, he slowly walked out of the school building.
He didn't know if he would be able to focus on his homework tonight.
