Edward Pov As I drove back towards my house, the silence in the car was deafening. The only sound that filled the air was the soft hum of the engine and the occasional squeak of the tires against the pavement. My mind, however, was anything but quiet. Thoughts raced through my head like a whirlwind, each more unsettling than the last. Was Nadine always so weak? Was she always so small and skinny? Why have I never noticed her wounds before? The image of Nadine sitting beside me haunted my thoughts. Her frail frame seemed even smaller under the weight of her pain. How had I been oblivious to her suffering for so long? Guilt gnawed at me like a relentless beast. Every glance I stole at her on our drive home felt precious as if she might disappear into thin air at any moment
