By the time Eliza reached the open clearing where the race started, there was already a couple of newly mated werewolf being lovey-dovey and one of them was Ronald and another brown head dude.
Ronald who was staring lovingly into his new mate’s eyes caught Eliza’s silhouette at the corner of his eyes and beamed at her. Ronald jumped up and waved with a huge smile on his face which Eliza return.
Eliza jogged over and gave Ronald a big hug.
Then they heard a growl beside them.
“Settle down big boy. I ain’t stealing your omega.” Eliza said and growled back just to tease Ronald’s new mate who blushed with a confused glint in his brown eyes.
Ronald blushed and slapped Eliza’s arm.
“Don’t scare him away from you moron also, I didn’t tell you anything. How are you so sure we’re mated?” Ronald's voice getting gradually smaller and smaller as he played with his fingers.
Eliza looked at Ronald with a brow raised. She smirked and touched her nose.
“I ain’t called the best tracker in the pack for nothing, darling. Plus, you reek of each other.”
Ronald turned redder and was going to strangle if it wasn’t for Ronald’s new mate who wrapped his arms around Ronald’s waist and pulled him to sit on his lap.
Ronald’s mate laughed. “Don’t be like that Ronny. I kinda like your friend and I don’t want you to kill her before I could actually get to know her.”
Eliza rolled her eyes but smiled when she saw how Ronald got calmed down by just his mate's embrace and soft words.
But Eliza just has to tease Ronald, just for the hell of it.
“Well,” Eliza leaned over and slapped Ronald’s new mate’s shoulder. “You found yourself a catch, dear Ronny. There is someone who could actually calm your hot ass down, well done, well done.”
“You-“ Ronald struggled in his mate’s arm, trying to get to a giggling Eliza. “Come here you heathen!”
“If you’ve finished struggling, care to introduce your new hot bae?”
Ronald huffed. “If you’re not such a brat, you two will be introduced by now.”
Eliza gasped, placing her hand on her chest dramatically, a scandalized expression her on the face. “Well, I have never,”
Ronald laughed and Eliza counted that as a win and gave herself a mental high five.
“Yeah, yeah. And you call me dramatic.” Ronald rolled his eyes. “Eliza, this is Timothy Brooke, my Alpha. Tim, this is my lovely best friend, Eliza Black.”
“What an honor for you to meet me, Timothy,” Eliza said and stretched out her hand.
Timothy laughed. “An honor indeed, Miss famed Eliza.” He said and shook Eliza’s hand.
“Ooh, sense. A great catch indeed. Say, Tim, can I call you that, do you care for some embarrassing stories of what baby Ronald did?” Eliza said with a mischievous glint in her eyes.
“Eliza!”
Ronald got out of Timothy’s arms and chased Eliza around the clearing with a huge blush on his face.
-Time skip-
Slowly, one by one, newly mated werewolves and those who stayed mateless came back and soon it was night time again already and the pack held a party to celebrate all the new pairings blessed by the Moon Goddess.
Eliza was barbequing a bunch of cheese sausages all stabbed with a skewer by the campfire when Ronald plopped down beside her.
“Hey Juliet, where’s your Romeo?” Eliza said. She took her flaming sausages out from the campfire and blow them out. She took a bite and moan happily.
Cheese, a girl’s best friend.
Ronald laughed and pluck one sausage from Eliza’s skewer and stuff it into his mouth, not minding the hotness at all.
“He’s with his parents. I talked with them just now, very kind. Then I saw your lonely ass alone, burning sausages.
Eliza gasped and pulled her sausages away to hide them from Ronald’s view. “Do not diss my cheese sausages.”
“I’m not dissing your sausages.” Ronald leans over and plucked another sausage from the skewer and eat it. “I’m just dissing the way you cook it. Why can’t you cook it at the griller with the rest?”
Eliza slapped Ronald’s intruding hands away when he reached to pluck another sausage which was the last one.
“’ Cause, one, you won’t know which one is yours when you grill with the rest and will end up getting taken by someone else.”
Eliza ate the last sausage and stick a few more onto her skewer with an additional skewer full of cheese sausages which she had stolen a bag of from the cooler. She sticks both of it into the campfire.
“Two, I like my cheese sausages flaming hot, get the cheese gooier and lastly,”
Eliza pulled out the flaming sausages and blow them out. She handed the additional skewer full of cheese sausages to Ronald. “It cooks way faster like this.”
Ronald laughed and accept the sausages filled skewer.
They enjoyed the cheese sausages before Ronald spoke up.
“So, during the run, was there anyone who chase you?”
The image of a silver eye beast flashed in her mind. Eliza blinked away the image and shook her head.
“Nope, nada.”
Eliza could feel Ronald’s gaze on her but she ignored it.
“You sure? Cause your expression to tell me something else. Eliza, you know you’re pretty bad at lying.”
Eliza huffed. “I ain’t lying. I was chased, I was hunted down.”
“So you were chased by someone!” Ronald exclaimed as he stood up.
Eliza quickly shushed Ronald down while a few heads turn to look at the commotion.
“Keep it down, will you! Sit down. Sit down!” Eliza whispered-yelled as she pulled Ronald to sit down.
“Oops, sorry. Got too excited.” Ronald said, looking sheepish.
Eliza rolled her eyes. “There’s nothing to be excited about, I’m not interested. Plus, that guy was a creep.”
“Ooh, details,” Ronald said and wriggled his eyebrows. Then he leaned his chin on Eliza’s shoulder.
Eliza shoved his chin away with her shoulder. “Get off, you oaf.”
“There’s nothing to share about. He was a creep who’s one moment wanting to kill me the next he’s asking me to be his mate. Can you believe that?! Alphas and their mood swings, worse than a pregnant Omega.”
“What about Alphas and their mood swings?” A voice said.
They jumped and turned around and saw Timothy standing behind them.
“Freaking cheese balls! Tim, warn a lady next time. You and your hunting skills.”
Over the afternoon, Eliza and Timothy had got to know each other and Timothy was actually the ace hunter in their pack.
“Oh nothing, just an Alpha Eliza met in the woods,” Ronald said as he leans into Timothy once he sat down beside Ronald.
“Huh, didn’t know an Alpha could catch the eye of the ‘Single Forever’ Eliza.” Timothy teased.
Eliza rolled her eyes. “It’s just a random Alpha I’ve never seen before and will never ever meet again. Nothing special.”
“Maybe you’ll meet him again. You could tell me how did he look like? I know most of the Alphas in this pack, I could help you.”
“Nope, I won’t. Even if you know that creep of an Alpha, I don’t want to ever see him again.” Eliza growled and bit into her sausages.
“That much of an impression? Must be a weirdo if you’re so hung up on that incident.” Ronald said with a frown. “Did he did something to you?”
Eliza spluttered. “I’m not hung up on-on that and he did nothing! If you want to know his face so bad, he a giant size black wolf with freaking one single silver eye.”
After her statement, Eliza was met with silence.
She looked towards her friends and saw them looked at her seriously.
“A black wolf with one silver eye? Are you sure the Alpha you met is him? Did you cross a stream or something before you met him?” Timothy asked, face very serious.
Eliza frowned. “Yeah…how did you know?”
“Eliza, that stream was a border between our pack and the Scorching Star Pack. You went into another territory. That Alpha you met wasn’t one of our own.” Ronald said.
“Scorching Star? That Royal Pack, Scorching Star?” Eliza said, confused. She didn’t know her pack and the Royal Pack is that close.
“Yes. And that Alpha you met is Cheshire Knight. He’s one of the generals of the Scorching Star Pack and…” Ronald trailed off.
“And what? Just spit it out, you’re making me anxious.” Eliza urged.
Timothy helped Ronald finished his sentence. “He’s the bastard son of the King.”
Eliza’s eyes widened. “I’m sorry what? That creep was a prince?!”
“Yes but that’s not the point. The point is that Prince Cheshire is a ruthless Alpha who have to erase a lot of the King’s enemy without any mercy. Not only that, it is said that he even removed the King’s enemy’s whole family. It was like that pack never existed.”
“I heard that Cheshire wasn’t even the Prince given name. It was a nickname he earns as a general after he was infamously known for killing the King’s enemy smiling like a Cheshire cat.” Ronald added.
Eliza frowned when she tried to recall Prince Cheshire’s face. He doesn’t look menacing, well he did when he hunts her down but before that, he was actually quite docile. And his eye.
His eye spoke a lot.
“Those are all just rumors right?” Eliza asked.
Ronald shrugged. “Who knows? No one knows which ones are real or which ones are not but it all came from the palace so no one dared to question anything.” Then he looked at Eliza. “Why did you asked?”
Eliza shook her head. “I don’t know. It’s just, he does not seem like the image I picture when you explain his identity. He was actually quite docile when I step into his territory. He didn’t straight away want to kill me or anything. He was just trying to scare me away. I just feel like he isn’t what you guys made him be.”
Ronald tilted his head. “What makes you say that?”
Eliza frown. “His eye. It was very guarded but once I talked back to him, it changed. It shone with curiosity. That’s when the hunt started. He also said something weird.”
“What did he said?” Timothy asked.
“He said, ‘you’re not afraid.’” Eliza looked at her friends. “He asked it so delicately, like, like, he expect me to run away screaming.”
Timothy opened his mouth but he was cut off when the Head Alpha asked everyone for their attention.
“Fellow pack mates! I am here to inform you of a special occasion we were invited to. His Royal Majesty, the King of the Royal Scorching Star Pack, has invited us to attend his daughter’s, Princess Phillipa, upcoming 16th birthday. So prepare your best dresses and suits. We’ll leave by 5 tomorrow.”
With that, the head Alpha ended the announcement and left to join his family.
Both Timothy and Ronald turned around and looked into Eliza’s spooked eyes.
“I’m screwed.”
-Time Skip-
“I can just not go, right? No one will notice!” Eliza grumbled as she fiddled with her red ball gown with white and gold accents and rose pattern while Ronald did Eliza’s hair.
Ronald sighed. “No, Eliza. It’s the pack reputation you’re going to destroy if you are the only one not going. Plus, it’s a masquerade theme party. He won’t recognize you.”
“Yeah, if he doesn’t sniff me out first.” Eliza sighed.
“There, all done,” Ronald said and handed Eliza her mask. It was a white mask with gold accents with red roses big and small over the gold accents.
“Do not skip this. Just stay discreet and don’t cause a commotion and you’ll be just fine darling. There’s also Timothy and I that can always help you right?” Ronald said and tapped Eliza’s nose with a smile.
Eliza scrunched her nose and beamed. “What would I do without you?”
“Probably hide somewhere and rot. Forever.”
Eliza blinked. “That’s…really realistic.” She grinned.
“I like it!”
-Time Skip-
It well passed a few hours of the party and Eliza still haven’t met Prince Cheshire, which is wonderful.
She looked around and walked towards the buffet table without anyone seeing and place a few cakes and pastry on her plate and proceed towards the corner.
But then she was stopped by someone.
“Hey beautiful, you alone?”
Eliza glared at a pair of blue eyes behind a very… distracting mask which covered the man’s whole face. It was the most glitters and shimmers hanging onto a mask she had seen in her whole life.
“Yeah but not going to mingle,” Eliza said and walked away but was held back by the man who grabbed her wrist.
Eliza glared at the man. “Unhand me.”
“Come on, don’t be like that. I’m handsome, you’re beautiful, and we’ll have amazing babies.”
Eliza ripped her wrist from the man’s grasp. “We’re both wearing a mask. You can’t even see my face, how can you know how do I look?” Then she crossed her arms. “Also, you’re wearing a full mask, who knows what you look like under that mask. Judging by how you cover your whole face, it’s not going to be nice.”
The man growled and raised his hand.
Eliza closed her eyes and wait for the slap to happen but it didn’t land.
She opened her eyes and saw another man with red hair and was taller, way taller than the man from before. The red hair man was grabbing onto the full mask guy’s wrist and the grip was quite strong.
“What do you think you’re doing to my Omega?” The red hair man growled.
That voice! Oh no…
“There’s no mark. She’s not your Omega.”
The red hair man scoffed. “Unlike someone who could not keep to himself, I actually have the brain to let her choose and not force anything on her.”
As if!
Then the red hair man leaned closer and snarled into the full mask guy’s face. “Get lost.”
When the red hair man released his grip on the full mask guy’s wrist, the full mask guy quickly walked away while clutching his what seems like an injured wrist.
Eliza sighed. Then she gasped when the red hair man turned around and reveal his face.
The man was wearing a simple plain black mask that covered his upper part of his face. But the thing that caught her attention was what lies beyond the mask.
The single silver eye glowed even when it was semi cover by the mask.
“My darling Cinderella.” The man grinned and grabbed onto Eliza’s wrist.
“Found you.”
